Difference /time and /kin

Time is great as a tanky buffer dps. Kin is more pure buff and dps. So do you like glass cannons that can dmg cap the whole team? Go kin. Do you like tanky recharge reduction buffs with some dps and acc+dmg debuffs thrown in? Go time. Personally I think time is the stronger set without a shit ton of investment (with a lot of investment, kin is better imo).

The one other thing to consider is that there are a lot of kins in the game atm, so the likely hood of you being in a group with one is moderate-high. So time may win out just for some buff diversification.

the main difference is going to be incoming and outgoing damage.

-kinetics has no real defense to speak of but has incredible damage boosting, recovery, and recharge.  managing recharge can be awkward with any downtime (you need to SIPHON recharge from an enemy for yourself)

-time has a massive defense buff and to-hit debuff allowing you to be quite tanky at all times (easily hit defense soft cap).  it also has basically everything you want EXCEPT large damage buffs (im aware slowed response reduces resistances)

it would probably just boil down to party all the time vs wanting to solo sometimes.  being able to walk into a party of critters and not die is very easy with /time, but much more difficult with /kin.  parties would probably generally prefer the damage boosting of /kin, but as someone else said there are a lot of /kin out there already... so being different can be nice as well.  /time is no slouch anyways.

I agree with pretty much everything that's been said about the comparison between the two. I currently have an ice/kin and a water/time at lvl 50, and can say I definitely prefer the water/time build. She's tanky af with Time's Juncture, Farsight, and Barrier, and the majority of her powers in the attack chain are either pbaoe or targeted aoe (Geyser, Water Burst, Soul Drain, Dark Consumption, and Ion Judgment when it's up). This lets me just stand in a middle of a pack and let loose. Water has the Tidal Power stack mechanic that increases damage, and I also went with Dark Mastery/Soul Drain as a poor man's fulcrum shift. Yeah, the damage boost is not as much, and it only buffs me, but the difference in damage output is considerable and a fair tradeoff for choosing time vs. kin overall. Dark Mastery also has Dark Consumption which, while not as strong as transferrence, still gives you an end recovery power if you need it and has the added benefit of doing pbaoe damage to boot. I tend to game the converter system to spec out my builds, so the overall investment was minimal from my perspective. I had her kitted out pretty well in just a couple of days. I'm also not a farmer, but I have tested her on the comic-con map in AE. I can multitask while doing +2/8 and can handle +3/8 with attention given to inspiration management and the like (not my bag though).
