Barrier will help with defences.

 

Swap hover and fly with Maneuvers and SJ or SS if you want. Or get teleport and fold space by dropping Hover/fly and taunt or CJ.

How important is the Fire to your concept?  Because Rad/Rad is already going to have a lot of AoE and one of things I find almost invaluable in a Rad Armor tanker is Focused Accuracy.  ToHit debuffs are murder and it really helps a whole lot.  Meanwhile, I haven't found building defense with Weave and IO's and such all that useful.  Without good DDR you will lose it when you most need it and not need it anywhere else.   But I suppose there's some argument to be made that having even some is good when you get on a team that can give you a little more via people running Leadership and such.

I agree ZemX. 

 

I usually don't build defence in my RadA because of the no DDR but i know a lot like it. I would rather pump the regen or recharge up rather than defence. I also use the Rebirth Radial and not Barrier.

 

I play a Rad/SS so that helps with to hit debuffs as /SS has it lol. But on the plus side Rad/Rad will have lots of defence debuffage.

 

My own build is proc heavy also. But as it is a roleplay concept i tried to cater for that.

What's the goal of your rebuild (RPing isn't really a build goal (imo), because pretty much any build could be explained away), general teaming, Running TFs (Exemping), End Content, Solo, other challenges, etc...? I think that will help a lot with the advise given. Gobbledegook's build is a good one, but some of the power selections come late in the build if you're looking at running lower TFs or teaming with friends/SGmates that are running lower content. And, I'd agree overall with what others have said, I also find Energy Mastery to be a good Epic choice for Rad Tanks. I do however run Mu Mastery on a number of them as well. I have build for 45%+ Melee Defense on several of my Rad Tanks. and still been able to maintain high resists. I have a build for Rad/Fire/Mu that I'll be trying out, when I get time, that shifts the Def to S/L to see how I like that/how it compares. But cycling between Meltdown and Barrier should cover most of the bases.

I found an old build from the Heroes Unlimited of Palladium Books and had an hero who had instead of fire it was rad projection, but now I have to settle with fire for concept as my replacement.  But when I tried to recreate a build, it made it weak because I made so many invulnerable characters and thought I could do the same thing with this one. Failed miserably. So in a way this is for nostalgia and asking for help. 

 

And no, I will not be able to RP this character.

I don't know... I like Fiery Melee... but if it's not a RP build then general content (exemping, running weeklies, etc...)?

I have done the same, in the past.  As an undeniable Inv fanboy, I had to change my thinking on builds.  With the help of too many on this forum to name, I began to adapt to the strengths of the different tanker primaries.  Rad isn't a "hybrid" Def+Resist like Inv, so you have to focus on Rad's strengths...resistances and the absorb shield.

What you wanna do if you're looking for "Durable", look to go almost pure Resist, and toss a tiny slathering of Defense on there.  It'll help offset giant alpha-strikes, then, if it gets Debuffed you just balls your way through on straight Resist.
