Come on guys.  Guys, GUYS!  Where's the Radiation Broad Sword Tank builds?

There must be some dirty secret builds out there.

I checked the 1-50.  And whilst I saw some Radiation Primary and 'some' (scant) Broad Sword secondaries, (and could have spliced them together...), there was no Union of Headsplitter with Radiation poisoning.

So, in the absence of any builds.  I made my own Necessity is the mother of invention build along these lines.

Reactive Armour in the sheilds.  Get some defence in there (as Radiation seems very Resist heavy and with the 'no big HPs button...you're got to be very active in your management of 'tools.').  Fitted the two AT tanker sets in Swirling Sword and the Slice AoE powers.  (Though maybe one of those two sets might need to be in something more 'active' like Beta Decay?)

Fitted Panacea in Health, ofc.  Fitted the two global def 3% procs in Tough (using as mule.)

No Hasten or Weave yet as I'm 'just' L35 at the moment and just got my 1st 'big' (allegedly) hitter.  I'm surprised BSword doesn't have one 'high damage' power in the 1st three tiers.  And the 'attack' after that is the self defence buff power.  Then it's taunt and BU.  You're waiting some for a 'hitter' (35 lvls) and I thought it might be excellent damage rather than just 'high' (it's base dam doesn't seem much higher than the tier 1?)

Still, no mewling about that.  You have Radiation.  You debuff their defence.  Whilst boosting yours with BS (no jokes.)

Best builds posted get a thumbs up from me.

Possibility of using procs in Swirling/Whirling Sword and Slice AoEs?

Force feedbacks to go in the two knockback powers at 35/38?  Boost the rech' for powers like Meltdown which has a big cooldown.

Weave or Hasten at L41.  *ponders.

I'm going to fit an obliteration in Ground Zero.  Boost the melee defence from 15% currently to about 19% in time for L40+ content.  Adding weave to that would see me at about 27% defence in time for L41+.

The dirty secret is that one can look at any Kat/Rad (Or Rad/Kat in this case) build and basically port it over BS.  The *real* dirty secret is that BS is awesome and not enough people are using it. 😉

I wouldn't go procs in those powers.  The fire rate isn't great and you'll get more mileage out of giving Whirling recharge so it is up often.  Save your procs for HS and Dis.  Basically borrow any proc slotting from SD and GD in a Kat build and use it for the analogous powers in BS.

Chances are you'll end up not needing Slice in a post-50 build, but it is an excellent cone for leveling.

For Procs in AoEs:

Radiation Therapy - 5 pcs %dmg + Theft of Essence %+End.

GZ - 1-2 Acc/Rech and fill the rest with dmg procs.

%KD and %(-Res) pieces can go in there to taste, but for single target you get more benefit out of FotG%(-Res) in whichever is the GD analog in BS.

Build for recharge resistance amongst the other usual goals.

I DID look at your Radiation stats from your build.  Gave me ideas for slotting Gamma, some of the resist sets and the Radiation 'Therapy' (can't say Council mobs like the therhapy too much...)  Some interesting ideas re: Weave slotting.  Saved the build for ref' compared to my own mids build.

I was wondering how your Melee defence was so high!  Until I -du-OH' realised it was defensive sweep which is a bit like the +defence Melee power in Katana and BSword which give great 'reach' in terms of Inc' defence leavels and tanking ala Melay.

Some very interesting pearls of wisdom here.

eg. Rad is really a 'regen' build for a tank.  And building for recharge resistance is on the money advice.

As for the procs, some incisive advice.  -Res' on mobs is what we're after whilst, of course, boosting our own' resist values.  The theft of essence is a cool and juicy noteworthy.

Procs in Rad' Therapy and GZero.  For dam.  Juicy stuff.  Intriguing advice.

What 'FotG' is? 🙂

What I found pleasantly surprising is that Rad' has it's own 'hasten-ey' style power that depends on the amount of mobs you have surrounding you?  (Particle Shielding?)   Once I add hasten to 35-40% rech' we're really going to be cooking.

I'll be adding a couple of 'slow sets' to boost the native slow resist power Radiation seems to have and(?) Winter's Gift for another 20%.  Should be able to fit that into CJ.

L40 and counting.  Weave.  Is next.

"Fury of the Gladiator %(-Res)" - mAoE PvP set unique that you'll want in Headsplitter if you're going the proc route.  Put the Achilles piece in Disembowel so there's one in each rather than eating 2 slots in a single power with them.

Beta Decay. PS just wants Heal/Rech or maybe Heal/Rech/End.  Unless you're slotting it for bonuses there is a D-Sync that is just Heal/Rech that is great in powers like PS.

Thank you for the tips, Invader Stych. 🙂

Logged and noted.

I have finished my build and achieved L50.  Fitting 2 purple sets to complete the damage on a couple of attacks.

+1 Level Shift also achieved.

So, this Radiation Broadsword walked into a Bar where Long Bow where drinking...

+1x8.

There's a disagreement...

+2x8.

Then things get personal...

+3x8.

and then a fight breaks out...

+4 x 8.

Oh dear...  Long Bow aren't Captain America any more.

I think that's my 1st tank that's stood there and took it from the Longbow.  And then, took 'their turn.'

This is the 1st tank where I've really thought to take Ageless Radial for the debuffs from the outset.

Can you post your build? I was trying and trying to make BS fun on a scrapper, and venting my frustrations, when someone said to try it on a tanker as its better on tankers.

So far my rad/bs tanker is lvl ~25 and having good fun with it

I take Parry very early in all my Broadsword builds.

On a tank it lets me focus some slotting on ranged and AoE defense -or- keep my focus on melee defense so I have a cushion for the inevitable defense debuffs. If you're at nearly 60% defense it will take more than one or two hits to drop you below the softcap.

Returning to my Rad/BS tank

I would build towards having 100% slow res. That really helps ensure that particle shielding, rad therapy, and ground zero don't get their recharge debuffed.

I wouldn't have Might of the Tanker in Ground Zero as that +res can be stacked if you put it on a faster recharging attack.

Also your defense that your stacking has no DDR to protect it from being debuffed to nothing. You could take Aegis Radial for some degree of DDR if you wanted.

I personally build rad armor to hard cap as many resistances as I can on Tanker/Brute, build for 100% slow res, and build a decent amount of recharge into the build. That's sufficient in my experience to solo most +4 content in the game. This allows you to also ramp up your offense to help solo AVs. I've tried to do the Res/Def, but I found the def was just getting debuffed off so I tried to get better ROI for my slotting. It's ultimately up to you how you want to build it though as it's your toon.

You get slow res based on Fallout Shelter, Winter's Gift 20% unique, and then as a 2/3 set combo for various winter sets.

I don't have your build up in mids as I'm at work stuck in a 3 hour webinar. Have you considered using Melee Core, Meltdown, Rune as a rotation? That way you won't need to slot for 90% res, but close to, and then make up the difference running one of those toggles. That might give you some more slotting freedom.

Also given how much recovery rad armor gets... what's the point of conserve power and physical perfection? I don't think you'll get much ROI on those. You could look at Focused Acc at least imo.

What incarnates are you looking at slotting?

  • Thanks 1

  • Put two Avalanche IOs in Ground zero.  I like Acc/Recharge and Knockdown proc (seriously, try it... it's hilarious.  This power can hit 30 targets in a 22.5ft radius on a Tanker.  It just makes the whole room take a seat).  Fill the remaining slots with damage procs.
  • Here's a trick: Slot two non-superior and four superior (at level 50 of course) Winter IOs in an ST attack.  Blistering Cold.  This gives you both the two-slot and the four-slot bonuses, so you double-dip on the slow resist.
  • While leveling up, you can supplement slow resist with a SG base empowerment station.  For a small expenditure of salvage, you get +20% slow resist for 90 minutes.
  • Focused Accuracy is the way.  Dump Conserve Power for that.  Stick a +5 boosted common endurance reduction IO in the default slot.  If you ever have endurance trouble, you can leave off running FA unless you are facing toHit debuffers (e.g. ghosts, Tsoo Sorcs, Witches, etc.)
  • If you are teaming at all with this tanker, don't skip Taunt.  It's just that useful at grabbing distant aggro without having to go over to it and punch it in the mouth... however satisfying that can be.  You can be controlling a big bunch of enemies with punch-voke and AoEs and then grab outliers and runners with Taunt, the range debuff in it helping to coax them in towards you and melee range.
  • Rad Therapy doesn't really need heal enhancement or accuracy.  I stick a couple Heal set IOs in it for recharge and heal and then the rest are damage procs.  Oh and ALWAYS slot the Theft of Essence +end proc.  With this and the recovery and recovery resistance already built into Rad Armor you don't really need any other endurance help.  Put a perf shifter in Stamina and another in Gamma Boost (as you already have) and that's that.  RT will still heal you plenty in a crowd.   It's not really your primary means of staying alive anyway.  That's Particle Shielding... and lots of recharge.
  • I wouldn't take both Hack and Slash.  With those two AND Parry you have three light damage attacks. You only need one.  Sadly, Parry is at T5 so you need to take either Hack or Slash.  Maybe just add two slots to Parry and then do two Superior and two non-superior from that set for the slow resist.

Holy smokes @ZemX! All my bids haven't even filled yet and this is already a monster. The dmg procs in Radiation therapy never would have occurred to me but it is hilarious watching them die as I heal.

A lot of us proc slot Rad Therapy and Ground Zero for damage procs. It's like having 2 mini nukes. It makes for some satisfying damage.
