Lilacsky22 Posted January 19 Posted January 19 (edited) Hello, I am new here, not officially new but brand new now. I played CoH before it was shut down. I wanted to talk about something very important and crucial to MMO's Rpg's. Background of me, I started young with dnd of course but this was in the 1980's and when Nintendo launched I I fell in love, mean while I had an atari and all the games. The gaming system that changed it all for me was sega geneisis because the games created for that system seemed more enthralled, such as DND Warriors of the eternal sun. This most influence I've had was actually table top games such as Risk and Battleship, and Stratego. These games are the entire reason why games became so mainstream today. I would like to address the reason MMO's are huge today instead of playing such games as Skyrim is because I come from the Ultima online community that is exactly what people were looking for back then. Wow is for the masses...it's similar to underground bands that you like and you like their music more than mainstream, the gaming community was always eager to try to new games / hence Guild wars two, Eq1 and eq2, ... When City of Heroes launched, it was completely under the radar of most of us gamers, in fact our focus was on WoW and EQ2. However lineage 2 was still there and I did try it as well as silk road among many other games that came out during that time , including SHADOWBAYNE, Morrowind. I played all the games that were coming out and I missed this gem.. called city of heroes!!! I missed it!!!!! hahaha. As a comic book collector myself, I'm very happy t o be back into a world that doesn't expect itself to be nothing but what you decide. As soon as I seen the news of NCSOFT giving rights to this fan based project, I knew right then that the gaming community would grow because of this reason alone, you don't see this EVER!!!! Now Daybreak is letting Everquest1 go but that is the only other acceptance. In all gaming communities across all games, this is a HUGE deal and to get the enabler is very cool I think. As far as MMO's go, there really isn't much out there, and you would think there would be there really isn't because they require time...just investing time alone and most are just now boring grinds such as WoW that to be good you must do the time or invest in money... the game is boring the peole are cool though and I think that is why Bizzard can get away with it all. Now the only other game that took on such detail was also under looked and that was RIFT, Rift had a very unique customization style and the more I spend time in CoH I can see that influence in Rift. Rift also did sidekicking and I think were excellent at it by making it easy to do by simply click over your character with options, I feel like so many great developers go un noticed and its a shame really... I was there when they fired all of Rift team and sold the game out...it was sad man. Rift also had dimensions where you could create your own homestead and it was very detailed. The game had extensive detail and I always thought they took it from eq1 but I think they took it from CoH....haha. The reason I say all of this is because, when I created anew toon and got into the game CoH, I was standing there and then someone came up to me and started jumping and I too stared jumping, I mean isn't jumping the sing of law in nmmo's to say hello and respect. lol I just felt at home right away. I just want to thank you to the ones that truly pushed hard to get this game back, it is a big deal because the true gamers will always be here. I can't sit in wow and I love wow with seasons of discovery, but I love the players more and I just want to help them, its a good step for blizzard but I think I want to try something more challenging and I think that is the true concept of a gamer. I think this game may surprise people and maybe if the community grows we can all be having fun, I think that will happen for sure but I honestly think the game is going to blow up. lol Edited January 19 by Lilacsky22 1 2
Healix Posted January 19 Posted January 19 ...Welcome home! 2 3 Forever grateful to be back in my city!
Techwright Posted January 23 Posted January 23 It's early days, but I'm interested to see where this goes. There was a big rush (I was included) in 2019 when news broke that there was a fan-restored game, and it has slowly tapered over 4.5 years. With official recognition, however, this not only brings in a surge of players who either never tried the game or were waiting for that official nod, but it stands a chance of increasing the pool of volunteer devs to work on refining the game and create new material. I just wish this would start a trend. I'd love to see another NCSoft property, Tabula Rasa, come off the shelves and receive a second chance. I'd also like to see one or two other games not affiliated with NCSoft receive a similar revenant experience. 2

Also it's tied to Richard Garriott, who is kind of in a bad way nowadays.
Frostbiter Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I wouldn't mind Dungeon Runners seeing a revival. That game was a lot of fun and gone to soon. 1 Torchbearer Discount Heroes SG: Frostbiter - Ice/Ice Blaster Throneblade - Broadsword/Dark Armor Brute Silver Mantra - Martial Arts/Electric Armor Scrapper
