Electric Armor Tanker: Dark Melee or Katana

Running and Elec Armor Tanker inspired by recent threads. Torn between pairing it with either Dark Melee or Katana.

 
Dark Melee: With two heals and two end recovery options, this thing seems like the energizer bunny. I don’t know if it is overkill though. Prob not the best damage wise, but should be super tough. Would rely on Soul Drain for damage, but Elec gets free recharge to help with that.
 
Katana: Since Elec can cap resists so well, it really gives an option for Katana to proc up. The -Achilles heel is nice, and I think Flashing Steel has a really nice AOE on a Tanker. Seems to bring a bit more CC than Dark Melee and good DPA with procs. Not really a big deal, but it has an awesome looking taunt animation 😂

I’ve looked at these combos as well (also at Fiery Melee). Dark Melee seems REALLY good, but in the character creator is seems rather… dull? Idk might just be me. Recoloring it could be cool.

 

I did however just check out the Katana taunt after you mentioned it. It is pretty cool.

It depends on what you're really wanting to do as a tank.

 

Electric Armour has a fair amount of regeneration, but no defense. Pairing it with Dark Melee gets you a bit of -to-hit and some healing, but Divine Avalanche is a solid 15% melee defense even if it doesn't stack with itself (it refreshes duration instead).

 

So really, either way is a good pairing to increase your sturdiness.

 

Edit: The downside of Dark Melee is pretty much the animations, but both Dark Melee and Katana are heavily left handed attack sets.

I personally had a blast pairing my elec armor tank with ice melee. It worked well as a praetorian solo project draining endurance, knocking things on their ass, and slowing their attack rate.

 

I played that thing all the way up to 50 before going to Primal Earth.

 

I built it to work on its strengths for high resistances, slow res, recharge for energize.

I've never been able to make Katana work for me. Others on the Tanker forums have given good examples of how to run it, but mine have never made it to 50... I had an Electric/Dark on live and it was a pretty fun run. So of the two you mentioned I'd go Dark Melee.

Nothing warms your opponent like Fiery Melee.
