From 0 to full build using the Market - An example

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I want to run a little diary, where I'm going to show how everyone can earn enough money for any build they desire using the market and little bit of time (much less time than doing this with farming!)

Bear in mind I'm not an expert marketeer! I have learnt a bit here and there, but I don't have billions and billions of inf under my account. I only dedicate enough time to get enough money for funding builds, and that's it.

I will be showing everyone my deals with the market, starting with 0 inf (which is gonna be hard, I'm used to send 100m to any new character as a starting point).

Obviously, there will be no farming and no powerleveling. Just playing the game, and playing the market.

This is the build I'm aiming for. I'm hoping to have it done by level 40/45, although I'm a bit rusty (I haven't played COH in the last 6 months).

Day 1

So, first of all, say "Hello" to Rime Lyrium! Ice/Temp Blaster

image.png.b8402f6f93e8230604574e2860357493.png

What have I done until now? Just go to Pocket D via base and start writing the above post (so I could start getting Pocket D time for the teleport).

I got some starter enhancements from START vendor, 2x XP multiplier, Inner Inspiration, and basic powers

image.thumb.png.c60940b72a3ba32fcf27fc523ba79293.png

Finally, I used Inner Inspiration and stored the 3 inspirations on the AH. I cannot sell them yet, since I have ZERO inf

image.png.743e320bc9c75a6c2275ba433e9b4c8d.png

Time to get some money!

Day 1

I started, as usual, with Matthew Story Arc. And as usual, as soon as I did the first mission, a DFB was announced so I joined. Got all the badges, a shiny recovery passive, and a T3 inspiration that went to the AH. After that, I finished Matthew's SA, which gave me 3 merits. These will become critical in the near future.

But for now, I still have 0 inf. I went to a vendor and sold all the enhancements I got during DFB. I have now 12,342 inf. Yay! I used again Inner Inspiration, and put the 3 new insps in the AH. Time to list them... for 1 inf

image.png.a99c31215fa3efd91b0296ec778d5f40.png

Yeah, selling T2 insps is not worth the effort, and is something I would never do (actually, I wouldn't sell T3 neither since I would have some initial money, but this time is a bit different)

Now that we have some money, let's try to get some recipes.

image.png.ae7d928d4d026f0385e159084c6efaa1.png

1110 inf each recipe. Level 20.

You can do this with any recipe, any level. I have chosen these ones because level 20 is cheaper to craft, and right now, I have no money at all.

These bids will take a while to get through (if I manage to get them, I'm not sure yet how much the economy has changed in the last 6-8 months). Let's keep levelling for now

Day 1

To end the day. I did Shauna Stockwell's Story Arc, which got me another 6 reward merits. At some point I was lucky enough to pick an orange salvage, which will be great to raise my initial funds. I sold all the enhancements, and off to the AH

image.png.f5c44e69b930e9726b92c4a1131e4a69.png

It sold immediately. I could have listed it for 1 inf, but there was a chance of losing 100k inf there, seeing the last bids. Now I have 444,652 inf and we can do some more bidding.

Now, with more money, I also placed some bids on level 25 recipes, and the bids are higher, too (5550 each recipe, 5 times more). Anyway, in some days the difference between my first bids and these ones will be meaningless.

To end the day, I will drop everything (recipes & salvages) to the ah, and list them for 1 inf. I could get more money with some micro management, but I'm lazy 🤷‍♂️

image.png.ddfc11ea0660c8d4813da3c191847946.png

Everything sold instantly, and I placed a couple more bids. I got my hard-earned money after a day of hero-ing!

End of day 1:

- Level 10

- 49,489 inf

Day 2

Some bids filled. Yay!

image.png.637996c66a56583eb4fd832ab612cf3a.png

As I suspected, level 20 bids were too low, but I'll let them stay there for now. Working the market means no rush!

So, what's next? Let's craft, obviously. A little trick: click on find, then search for Salvage. This way you can easily buy the salvages you need.

image.png.564344d81b7d516d13276e8265278cf6.png

I placed bids on the salvages I needed, and while I waited for them to fill, I went to Atlas Park and did a quick tour, gathering all exploration badges. Takes 5 mins, and you get 5 more reward merits

image.png.85065ace2ca0e306fc43678d383475ab.png

After this, I could grab my salvages

image.png.54cb8f7ed9e8119fdd2cf602de825b42.png

But I couldn't craft a single one!

image.png.4a24d8a41d7eb141b43993143d268b21.png

Luckily, my trusted Inner Inspiration fixed the issue, and I got enough money to craft two of them

image.png.3378f7eaa9ee086038cbdfb11ad89ee7.png

For the next step, grab some enhancement converters. We are getting to the most important part! Everything else will be doing the same over and over and over. I'll show it in the next post:

Day 2 - Where the magic happens

Step one - Click this little button on your enhancement tray

image.png.0d14cf4b45346336bf8ce5839c9ebe4b.png

Drag one of the crafted enhancements there, and select Out of Set Conversion, Category: Running (or whatever is the correct category for your enhancement)

image.png.88f3f0aaf9c23fe7d035b4193a0fdc44.png

Click Convert, and...

image.png.6695d2be6f6787873118e73c3d5a0952.png

Now, this is a good enough result for 2 converters. I converted the other enhancement and got another Celerity: Stealth, but I'll use it to continue with the example. Assuming you got an enhancement which may not be good enough for selling; just drag it again to the converter and select Rarity: Rare:

image.png.0dceb7b64648bdac57dc29f52ec4b48b.png

This time it took me two conversions to get something worthwhile:

image.png.b0c48ba7bdd89b38a1aa0f17068eb17e.png

Now is just a matter of selling them... or not

image.png.1685f28d31d454df842a29809bfc534f.png

So yeah, the first one will be a good sale for someone. I put it for 100k, it sold instantly

image.png.35f84427b2150b6e8c33d41b63654937.png

The other one was placed for 1m, and sold instantly, too

image.png.29aa328b053916548d870d19e51882c1.png

This got me enough money to craft the rest of enhancements, convert them, and list them

EDIT: Sorry, I uploaded the wrong picture... you cannot see the listed enhancements as of now, but I will post a image of what has sold the next day

Including some that sold instantly

image.png.85b1cdd71f6b906f553fadff942859df.png

End of the day:

image.png.488bb85dcb3a4aea52c6e089e7234389.png

Almost 3millions, with 10 minutes work. Took me more time to take all the screenshots and write these posts, than actual playing time. I have a bit of a headache so this will be enough for today. Not bad!

EDIT

I realized that, even if I showed what to do, I could have added a little explanation. Basically, the idea is:

- Buy recipes that do not use orange salvage, This recipes tend to be cheap, and usually produce an incommon enhancement

- Craft them (I do everything in batches of 10. Depending on the amount of merits/converters, I may craft up to three batches of 10)

- First conversions are aimed to swap the rarity from uncommon to rare. You will get an enhancement of the same type (for example, in this case, Running) but from a different set. Sometimes there is only one uncommon set and one rare set of certain categories at certain levels... Depending of what recipe you have crafted, this may be guaranteed, or not... you can do some research of your own to determine which recipes work best for you. I have my own favorites 😉

- Once you have a rare enhancement, use the rarity conversion to get something worth selling. Youvwill get a rare enhancement of a different set. This is more luck related, but usually with 1-3 conversions is enough. With experience you will learn which are the fancy ones.

- Put your enhancements for sale. You can pay attention to the number of sales, how many are for sale vs how many are bidding, the price they got sold...

I will be waiting for the next installment.  I did something similar a year or so.  I had over 200m by lvl 15.  I did a lot of exploration badges to get RMs.

The hardest part, which is getting the engine to run, is more or less done, so now is just a matter of playing, doing TFs and SA, and repeating the procedure.

I doubt I will reach that level of money so soon 🙂

If I knew this before, I forgot. And if it's not clear, the sentence above the picture are not my words, but the OP's. I didn't want to use the entire picture, and inadvertently got his comment as well, but I'm too lazy to get another clip & snip.

Can you do us a favor and talk about how you are slotting your character as you go along?  Clearly at this time you can afford SOs if you want them.  When do you like to add staples like Steadfast Protection or ATOs?  I think that additional commentary would help a lot of recent returnees who are having trouble with funding while they level.

I will for sure! At this moment, the only enhancements I have are the START ones, but I will make sure to post pics of the build as fill those slots, with whatever enhacement I use

EDIT: Actually, one image is better than one thousand words. I can't play now, but I can log in for this

Day 3

Everything sold!

image.png.11db7d8af9ab44f481fa2b1a96c534f9.png

And I bought a few things

image.png.d356ae066cc04eee71648a60ef343c1f.png

So I crafted 10 more enhancements... that will stay in my tray until I get more merits

And lastly, let's try to fill some slots in my build

image.png.38042192000982edda05ae2e045e9e84.png

After all of this, current inf:

Nothing to sell, time to get merits. Eagle Eye needs some help, let's be heroic!

Day 3

After clearing Eagle Eye's Story Arc, I did some exploration badges: Kings Row, Atlas Echo and Galaxy Echo (you can get to those from Ouroboros, which I got a portal in Atlas)

image.png.9f141080ccd8726ac95e1f0c053a115e.png

Something funny happened in Atlas, while I was asking for an Ouro portal, someone wanted to give me some millions. Thanks Captain Canada! But I need to refuse, otherwise this wouldn't be a real challenge 😛

Armed with 20something more Reward merits, I went to do some more converting. Remember I still have 10 crafted enhancements! Before that, I placed some bids for more salvages for the near future, and to craft a nice level 15 Reactive Armor recipe I got as a drop.

image.png.f5f26015848600576c1c79e403034a35.png

Stuff selling:

image.png.262934e1d0934b0e36c91c063e6b7cea.png

Things sold immediately

image.png.4be7212486c10fad0ff5a8e83170e79b.png

Current bids (mostly the very lowball bids for level 20 recipes, which I may cancel or increase, and some key enhancements that hopefully will fill soon - although the Panacea may be too low)

image.png.43c94d5ed5ccee130ccb61b02f3a78e8.png

And finally, same as yesterday, I emptied my "bags". Enhancements to the vendor, salvages/recipes to the /ah for 1inf

image.png.971a75d398f4f39780e85de31bab4791.png

Oh, and I also renewed the 2x XP buff (I already consumed three charges, a lot of time used in the forums 😛 )

End of day 3

- Level 12 (almost 13)

- 5,240,756 inf

image.thumb.png.2e0108dc4df5e555f3b325099ef56c0a.png

Next day I'll try to do a Posi 1, 1+2 if I have enough time. I want to fill those empty slots with basic crafted IOs at 17, so probably tomorrow will place some bids for those, too

EDIT: As you can see, this time I'm not showing all the converting process in detail. How to do it is explained a few posts above, I'm not going to repeat it every time. With me, it's always the same. Buy uncommon recipes, craft, convert to rares. I know other people use more methods (flipping, converting ATOs, etc), but I'm a one trick pony 🙂

Also, the point is not showing how to become ebil. I just want to show how to fund your builds with very little effort (seriously, the time invested is minimal. You don't even have to do the exploration badges, I'm sure everyone has dozens or hundreds of converters lying around)

although the Panacea may be too low)

It's not a secret I keep, so let me repeat what my father taught me as a kid.

"Every dollar you save multiplies to the bottom line".

At 10 years old, I wasn't really clear what he was talking about. At the time, I was telling him I wanted to buy a skateboard. In hindsight, I suspect he figured it was a waste of money.
But, here's my point. You're bidding 5M+ on an enhancement. Now, I can certainly understand bidding on an attuned enhancement, so it levels with you. It would be irksome to buy it crafted, and then have to slap a catalyst on it.

But here's the thing about most of the "special" enhancements like Panacea: Chance for +hitpoints/endurance, the glad armor 3%, the Shield Wall 5%, the chance to do whatever kind of damage IOs...
It is more cost effective, usually (sometimes, it's not, so always check) buy the recipe and craft it. Because of the way these special ones work, they will do the same job for you as a level 10 IO when you're level 10 as they will when you're level 50. These do not need to level up with you.

You're talking about minimal effort, and I get that - but you can buy a level 10 pvp panacea IO for 2.6 to 3M. The crafting costs are, with salvage, less than 500k.
So, for the shield wall, the glad armor, and the panacea, buying the recipes is going to save you (if you bid the same way for the others) about 6M.

Those are a fair number of sales you don't have to make. Which ties in with what the old man was trying to tell me. Every skateboard that costs 20 bucks I don't buy, (back then - that was a day's work worth of money) that's one day I could take off work. Granted, I still wouldn't have a skateboard, but I'd still have the 20 bucks.

If the crafting part annoys you, (or some of your readers) buy something less expensive, like a Javelin Volley or the snipe, Expert marksman as an IO for about 4-5M, and then convert into what you want.  It's generally a little cheaper than paying the 6.5 to 8m for the big three.

Fortunately, none of what we're talking about here is real money. So, ultimately, what you're doing is working for you  - and really, that's all that matters. I just figured I'd point out that for that specific case, the recipe is probably a better option.

Is not about laziness, is just...that I didn't know that it may be cheaper crafting them 🙂 I will have a look at this later for sure!
(At some point I will attune them because having the entire build except purples attuned, and those missing will irk me for sure, but that can wait until 50)

Thanks Ukase!

Day 4

Some stuff sold (and the salvages/recipes from yesterday, I forgot to grab the inf from the sales)

image.png.d124df6b7f936291f3329e839fb8f524.png

After collecting everything, let's see the Bought tab...

image.png.0611f473b06dcf9a9af12add102f326f.png

The salvages I needed, and a couple of enhancements. Lucky me! I cannot use them yet 😞

I didn't get the Panacea nor the Performance Shifter proc, so I'll try getting the recipes as Ukase suggested

This is the current status of my bids

image.png.9dcd2eed97425b618c81a2bab713980c.png

I crafted 11 enhancements, but I cannot convert them yet.

image.png.edc1a69877212949faf78c7d8ebc7da3.png

But I don't need to convert the Reactive armor! Listed

image.png.2e1cb83b0e8de81eaaf1b220fa881622.png

So currently I have 6 enhancements for sale, 10 enhancements waiting to be converted, 2 enhancements bought and 2 other waiting to be bought/crafted

I'm trying to find time for some TFs but lately I've been waking up early, so I cannot play a lot during the night. I guess I will solo more than I expected. I'm open for contacts/SA suggestions! 🙂

Day 4

So, I managed to secure a Posi 1 team. That got me a lot in terms in XP (I'm level 20 now) but very little in term of reward merits. I guess I'll need to do more exploration. Or not. We'll see. But now I really need to start slotting things.

I also did the crafting introduction because I enjoy it. Yes, I'm weird.

I converted those 10 enhancements I had in bags and listed them Two sold instantly (my bad, I took no photo of that, sorry)

image.png.1b55dd073c774374d05c39dac7654176.png

I'm now bidding in some basic IOs

image.png.21b500d8d2adb51ac07f8b63ac94b3c5.png

And bought some others

image.png.44fb95690b680dffb348710cf6181296.png

In the end I got the Panacea enhancement so I'll cancel the recipe bid.

Finally, I sold all my crap (SOs, recipes, salvages), and placed some bids (for salvage to do another batch of crafting, and for more recipes). This is how it looks now

image.png.d244689c10ca6c1dc721996e1d3c57cf.png

My purchasing priority will be:

- Endurance/Health

- Slot attacks with some basic IOs until I can slot level 30 sets. I will get Artillery and Thunderstrike until I can afford ATOs, and get to 50 for purples

- Recharge (Lotg 7'5%)

- Other uniques

- Defense sets/Whatever

Actually I have enough money to start looking at some Lotg for Stealth and Hover. I'll bid on one for the moment

End of Day 4

Final status

image.png.0f72356a1fdc72648089215ac77c6e11.png

- 14 enhancements for sale (and 1 recipe... lol )

- Bidding for a bunch of recipes (around 100), some basic IOs (accuracy/end reduction), and a couple of other attuned enhancement (preventive medicine, Lotg). I'm bidding for one Perf.Shifter enhancement and one recipe, as I will be needing both. Let's see what I get

- Level 20

- Influence: 3,686,539

Day 5

I managed to squeeze a little time today during lunch. Something sold!

image.png.25fa7f69687d499d178fb866437634f1.png

And something has been bought!

image.png.76158649c036d09929269aa196a48273.png

Build updated

image.thumb.png.281801854449db3a4fb03f2ab8c8406c.png

With the money from the sales I placed another bid on LotG recharge (I will be able to use it very soon), and increased the bids on the crafted IOs. I also increased the bid on the Shifter enhancement and recipe, I want my endurance issues away. The recipe filled instantly for just 200k, so I placed bids for the salvages.

I don't have time for a lot of playing but I will do a couple of exploration badges for merits. And I also crafted 10 more enhancements to convert later

Current inf: 10,923,733. I should put this money to work soon

Day 5

I did The Hollows and Perez Park, so that's 10 more reward merits. Let's do some conversions and list them

Immediate sales

Some stuff I bought (including a Stealth that I bought instantly)

This is what changed:

Tonight I'll see if the endurance issues are gone, I'll review the build and I'll check if I can place some lowball bids for the future

Also, as always. I placed bids for salvages to craft another batch

Current inf: 12,781,032

Small update and big shoutout thanks to Ukase for the suggestion! I did a quick test, which can be seen here

image.png.3692335b6c22695fc79c09b554ebdaa0.png

Basically:

- I bought a Perf. Shifter: Recharge/Accuracy for 1million (buy it now at first try, probably you can get it cheaper)

- I bought 9 converters (because it's the biggest multiple of 3 you can buy in one go) at 65k each (again, buy it now price), totalling 585k

- Converted twice the Shifter and got my End proc (granted, I was lucky to get it in two tries)

- Got back the 3 millions I had in my bid for the proc.

Basically I saved a million and a half buying another enhancement and converting it until I got what I needed. Yes, as I said, I was lucky getting it with only two tries, but I also used buy it now prices for the shake of the experiment). As a bonus, I got 3 extra converters (bought 9, used 6)

This is to show a different way of doing things! This is not my style usually, although I will try to use this trick more. Converters are such a wonderful thing, they should be banned 😛

It is more cost effective, usually (sometimes, it's not, so always check) buy the recipe and craft it. Because of the way these special ones work, they will do the same job for you as a level 10 IO when you're level 10 as they will when you're level 50. These do not need to level up with you.

There is *always* a cheapest way to create something.  That said, in the grand scheme of things it's not particularly relevant if one way saves you a little inf or effort over another UNLESS:  1. you are doing this in bulk, or 2. it is important to you.  An extra million inf which can be made up in a few minutes playing the game isn't make or break, so no hand wringing is necessary!  In my mind, this goes for those who get snippy when someone uses merits to buy something that would have been cheaper to acquire some other way.  It's ok if you don't follow the absolute minimum cost path.

(At some point I will attune them because having the entire build except purples attuned, and those missing will irk me for sure, but that can wait until 50)

This is so true for me as well!

Day 5

Sales, sales, tasty sales

image.png.f23d359c5424aefa6b9f09751f88fce3.png

And nice goodies bought! This means crafting 10 enhancements

image.png.deab432d9c6eff63704dacbadbcca057.png

This is looking MUCH better

Next two slots will be for Temporal Healing, so I can place the other end proc and Preventive Medicine: Heal. After that... we'll see

Current influence after getting the money from my sales, crafting, and bidding on more recipes:

Let's try to move that money:

image.png.5c88378dd5e4f546d3a8e4b3ac878da3.png

I may be able to get some cheap ATOs and convert them into something more sellable, or Blaster ATO

Time to get some XP and Merits!
