I forget the name of the set, it's in the Pet Damage category, but it has a chance for build up. Before I blow 20ish mil on it I wanted to understand it a lil better. Does its build up apply to both you and them or just them?

Thanks!

It's been 10 years since I've played but I think build up in pets only applies to pets unless HC changed it?

EDIT: Just remembered ATOs and I don't remember them from classic but gaussians should work on thug pets.

So if Gaussian buffs both, then logically the pet one does as well?

The enhancement you're referring to is Soulbound Allegience: Chance for Build Up. The effect applies to the pet it's slotted in. It's part of a purple Pet Damage set that can only be slotted at lvl 50.

The effect of the Gaussian: Chance for Build Up applies to the caster. It has to be slotted in a power that accepts To Hit Buff sets. If it's slotted in a henchman, it will apply to the henchmen but not to the MM. If it's slotted in the MM's secondary or a pool power, it will apply to the MM but not the henchmen.

Honestly the build up proc seems wasted. I've put it in a few builds and like while it might make some small mathematically definable difference, from a gameplay perspective I have never once noticed a difference putting build up in any pet set vs putting an actual damage proc which I can regularly see come up in floating damage numbers when pets attack

I always (in the level 50 respec) use the Soulbound Allegiance %Buildup piece in the T1 Henchmen (for Masterminds). I will often use it in non-Mastermind pets, especially if there are more than one of them summoned. It triggers very frequently.

Specific to MM henchmen, I use almost always use the T1 for these reasons:

  1. There are three of them, each one can have the proc fire. I often see it on more than one; occasionally I see it multiple times on the same hench.
  2. The T1 are level shifted (for most content), so the boost to ToHit and Damage is "most needed" (modulo whatever else is going on in the build)
  3. Because of the nature of the Global pieces that affect henchmen/pets (the Defense/Resistance/Etc. Auras), my slotting choices for the T1 generally don't have as much Accuracy/Damage as I would like

Here is a typical slotting for my T1s (T2, T3 not shown)

 (A) Superior Mark of Supremacy - Damage: Level 50

 (*) Superior Mark of Supremacy - Accuracy/Damage/Endurance: Level 50

(*) Soulbound Allegiance - Chance for Build Up: Level 50

(*) Expedient Reinforcement - Resist Bonus Aura for Pets

 (*) Sovereign Right – Accuracy/Damage

(*) Sovereign Right - Resistance Bonus

I quite like putting the Overwhelming Force %Knockdown piece in the T1 as well, but sometimes that doesn't 'fit' in them.

One final comment, because sometimes I put it in pet (not henchmen) powers. The pet that gets this piece has to have enough damaging attacks, and make them frequently enough, to make a 10 second BuildUp worth it. If a pet only has two attacks, and doesn't have a decent attack chain... it isn't usually worth giving them a BuildUp. Similarly, if the pet damage is inherently small, the fractional boost from BuildUp won't add much to it.

A regular +dam IO can be better than Soulbound, it really depends on the pet slotting. A +42% dam IO VS an RNG +60% proc. Soulbound pulls ahead when damage buff is in the yellow or red, and the addded IO is less effective due to ED/diminishing returns.

Several of my pets are slotted pretty similar and typically their damage buff is +115% (With Musculature/Intuition Radial) or +125% (With Musculature Core). With a +42% dam IO and ED, those buffs become +123% and +132%. In my case it becomes a +7.5ish% damage buff VS an RNG +60% proc in the T1 pets/+80% in T2s/+100% in T3. Soulbound becomes considerably better.
