TheHeyzoose Posted June 15 Posted June 15 I'm getting ready for Naval duties and am concerned about the character inactivity timers. Is there a way to prevent this from affecting myself. It's not like I have a ton of hours on my two 'toons but I'd prefer to not lose them in the future if my internet access disappears due to duty issues. Is there an administration route for this discussion?
Honorbridge Posted June 15 Posted June 15 I’m not certain exactly what you are concerned about here. Your characters themselves are under no danger of deletion unless you do it yourself. The worst that could happen is you might have to rename them. However, the system for releasing names is not active, with no indications that it will go live in the foreseeable future.
TheHeyzoose Posted June 15 Author Posted June 15 (edited) I've not even left yet and received a "yield sign" with and explication saying that my character was close to being unused for too long. The character was someone I only setup to play with my wife when I'm away and we can. Edited June 15 by TheHeyzoose

I'm sorry. I've been shuffling around with my wife talking about other things to do together and we were scared by what we saw.
Riverdusk Posted June 15 Posted June 15 The name policy has never been implemented. The warning signs are just a 'test', so far anyway. Also, as said, those warnings aren't for actual deletion, it is just for their names being 'freed up'. Someone would have to try and take that name. If it does get implemented the only way to make sure you keep the name is to get the character to level 50. If they do decide on some special exceptions, it hasn't been made clear to this point. 1
Greycat Posted June 19 Posted June 19 The other question here is, how high are your characters? You mention having two of them. If they're 50, they're safe from the name getting freed up. And as mentioned, *IF* the policy were implemented (which it has not been, and frankly I hope never is,) it would only *free up the name* - so if you had SuperSgtSnorkler at level (say) 30 and were gone a year, if nobody else wanted that name at that point... you'd still have it. Even if someone else DID take the name, it would just tell you you needed to rename the character. Everything else about it - SG, level, money/slotting, missions done, badges, etc - would be fine. Captain Valiant Posted June 19 Posted June 19 Anyone with your password (like your wife) can sign your character in every so often to start the timer again. Be safe. 1
Game Master GM Crumpet Posted June 21 Game Master Posted June 21 As others have said, the name thing isn't live yet and there will be plenty of warning before it does go live. Even then it just changes your name from reserved to available, it doesn't wipe it. So in theory someone can snipe in after the time and take it, but in reality unless it's something really popular or obvious the chances of it vanishing are slim.
