Question about main theme

This may be a dumb question, but I was watching Ghost Adventures the other night and in the Return to the Riviera  episode they show a newscast talking about imploding casinos with what sounds like the COH opening theme.  
 

Is that a well known tune or was it made specifically for COH?

I don't know about the "main theme", but there's a a lot of public domain music in the game.  So it's not unlikely at all that the shows you were watching got stuff from the same bank.

Place I used to work, we had a bunch of the "City of Heroes OST" as background music in new employee onboarding/training videos.

Completely left field, but I once made a real employee training video using the music and stings from the SpongeBob 'Krusty Krab' training video, which in itself is a work of satirical art.

I thought there was some discussion of what sounds came from free to use and what was designed.  Quick glance on the wiki mentioned how the later stuff was done more professionally.  (And a bunch of little used ones and how to get mp3s...)  Anyway, here's a rabbit hole...

I'm pretty sure it's an original score that's intended to sound like something you would hear in a newscast about superhero activity.

I suspect it was produced using licensed samples based on other tunes in the game, but can't say for sure. 

 

I can say for sure that I have the Atlas Park theme song in one of my music production libraries.  The orchestra hits that show in the default library sample have been removed from the in-game version, but they're the same tune.  Source: Orchestral 2: Modern (Cinematic 03) Produced by Sony

 

Since many musical themes are reused throughout the game, but with the exact same instruments, I strongly suspect most of the music up until Going Rogue was put together in Acid Loops (or something similar) by a competent music producer, rather than an actual music writer.

With the soaring synth trumpets, messenger drumbeat, and urgent strings in the background, COH's main theme - whether it's fully original or not - could easily pass as an Inspirational/Cinematic/Action theme for a newscast pretty much anywhere in the world.

(Though it would be really, really cool if WPRI 12 picked it up and ran with it.)

 

And vice versa: if you ran through anything tagged News or Heroic on Extreme Music, you'd find a lot of stuff that would fit in around Paragon.

So maybe it's stock, or maybe we have a COH fan lurking in the Ghost Adventures production team who threw it in for a laugh.
