When you arrive at a new zone, you're often given a detective to talk to.  This can be a pain because it erases your old mission in your Nav bar.  I wonder if it's possible to "remember" the previous mission, then reinstate it after the detective is finished.

I'm thinking mostly of new players here, and especially the first time they are sent to King's Row.  Their mission to talk to Blue Steel will be replaced by one to talk to a detective, and then the Nav bar goes blank and they don't have anything to do.  This would be a lot more convenient for them, and also players in general, if they could just have their old mission pop back up on their Nav bar.

To the best of my knowledge, what you are asking for can't be done with this game's ancient engine. The reason the previous mission blanks is because the game can only track 1 active mission at a time. And even a new player should be able to figure out how to open their mission list and select a mission listed there. (Edit: And if they can't? They can ask in the Help channel, General channel, Broadcast, or walk up to another player and ask in local.)

Thing is... is the "Go talk to the detective for the first time" thing really a "mission?" It certainly isn't in the mission list to override doing whatever it is you're doing when you zone. The detective is, at best, a new (though special) "contact" you haven't met yet.

I'm suspecting the behaviour is specifically a holdover from redside's introduction, where you *had* to be assigned to one of them to get any new missions and there's some coding wonkiness from that - which I'd... eh, half argue is obsolete now thanks to the "find a contact" button.

Regardless of it not being an actual mission in our mission list, it is still the assigned active task when we enter the zone. That still removes the mission from the nav bar as the active mission. I also think some contacts are still locked behind the radio missions, so retaining the heads up to go talk to a detective is a good thing. That said, I agree with you in that it needs to be addressed, especially since even after you get access to the radio, when you level up and go to a new zone, you get another 'go talk to the detective' task which serves no purpose because you already have radio access and the detective won't tell you anything other than 'go do some radio missions'. So while I am still firmly of the belief the OP cannot be done and I firmly disagree that new players are going to be so incompetent that they can't figure out how to select their missions from the mission window or even think to ask for help, I do agree that something should be done about the detective and broker tasks in the game.

Lol I've been playing for a very long time and every once in a great while, I'll still zone out and just follow my yellow nav marker and be surprised when I arrive at a police station 🤣.

So OP I certainly agree with your proposal to prevent the inconvenience, however I think Rudra is probably correct that it can't be done in the antique code we use. (sadly thats the answer to so many of the suggestions) I'd love to be wrong though!
