chadluthor88
this issue might only be related to pvp, i dunno, but i noticed it only in PVP. i was fighting a scrapper with energy melee and he said the range for his Total Focus attack was only 7ft, but upon chasing me i noticed the power was being activated from 15-20 ft away! no other melee attacks besides that attack was being activated as he was chasing me, but the range seemed very sus! take a look please, and fix it! it's like that for all of energy's attacks...just tested it more Edited September 28 by chadluthor88
megaericzero
Could be any number of things. If I had to guess, it's to do with the latency between the client and server in regards to movement. There's a slight delay that makes powers behave weirdly when checking if targets are in range, among other things. Greycat
I'm guessing mega there is right - if you have an attack queued and it gets into range, even briefly, it will go off. (I most notably take advantage of this fighting Protean on a melee character - run, jump with attack queued, it'll go off as I pass and I land out of range of his attacks or AOE heal.) Known colloquially as "Jousting." Kheldian Lore and Backstory Guide 2.0: HC edition Out to EAT : A look at Epic ATs - what is, could have been, and never was Want 20 merits? Got a couple of minutes? Kaika
100% Jousting, any experienced melee player in pvp knows how to do it. Attacks are all calculated the moment they are activated, you could teleport to the edge of the zone on the startup of TF and you will get hit still. Basically you jump right before the attack activates to preserve your momentum and move during the attack. It's extremely an useful technique to master, even in PvE as you can use to to close the gap to another enemy while still attacking. It's alot easier to do with range, but the same principle applies to melee. biostem
2 hours ago, chadluthor88 said: i noticed the power was being activated from 15-20 ft away! Depending upon your own history/experience with games, it may not seem readily apparent that combat in CoH isn't exactly "real-time" - when you queue up a power, (with a valid target selected), you only need to get within said power's actual range for a brief moment, for it to activate; This frequently results in "jousting". So in short, that other person most likely *did* get within that 7' range, but only for the requisite fraction-of-a-second for the power to activate, after which they get locked into the actual power animation...
