Lockdown proc vs and/or plus Devastation proc

Hey folks, I'm currently planning a new troller and I'll proc out the single target hold.  I like the Lockdown proc in there to get bosses held in 1 attack but got curious about the other hold proc.

  1. Devastation vs Lockdown, is that an advantage to either one?
  2. Is there any benefit to using both?
  3. Bonus round: do you have any oft overlooked procs you'd suggest?

 

(I usually throw 1 acc/hold, 1 Lockdown proc, and 4 damage procs in there.)

I don't think most Holds will take Devastation, but I may be wrong. I don't see the point really as the hold already is a hold.

Yes. I use lockdown in hold powers and devastation in some ranged powers - depended upon character conception. I tend to use devastation in low damage ranged attack powers only. I like putting the devastation on the arcane blast power - seems to fit thematically to me.

If I have one target held with the hold power, I'll generally attack an active target and try to keep the held target held with the hold as it recharges. So the ranged attack with the devastation proc has a chance told another foe.

 

If I have more than one hold on a character, I will slot 2 additional lockdowns into a power(s) that I have the proc in.

I tend to use a second devastation in a power that I equip the proc into.

 

I always tend to slot 2 accs in every thing.

Hold I tend to 2 slot acc, then recharge, then hold, then as the character levels up the lockdowns (keeping the two accs and the hold most of the time - if it is a slow recharge secondary hold, I'll sometimes keep the recharge and only 2 slot lockdown)

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

I’ve got more time now.

 

1.  Devastation is a ranged damage set and Lockdown is a hold set.  Sometimes you can only use one in a power.  As a pure proc Devastation is better but if you are two slotting the set I prefer Lockdown bonus for a little more damage.


2.  It depends on your proc chances but it feels like overkill.  If either trigger you will hold bosses, but if both trigger you still won’t hold elite bosses.  
 

3.  Oh my yes.  Stacking mez effects when you are not playing a mez character can be extraordinary.  Check out this list:

Thanks guys! I'm building out a dark/storm troller so Dark Grasp was the power I was looking at but I didn't want to make the question so specific. Dark Grasp takes both and that's what got me thinking about the comparison. It sounds like it's probably not worth slotting them both into the same power. I'm tight on slots anyway so I think I'll go with the Devastation if it has the better proc chance.

ST holds usually don't do a lot of damage and the Hold set bonuses aren't always that great, so if I have room to do so, I usually put 4x Basilisk Gaze and both +Hold procs in the ST hold. I don't so much care that one or the other fires off, it's just nice that one or the other usually does.  Good for holding drop ships or saving friends who are squishable.

I have an Ice/Sonic Blaster I loaded up with Lockdowns.  Your post inspired me to finally try Devastations, too.  Granted, I didn't do a full technical analysis of the log, but it looks like Lockdown fires off *way* more often than Devastation.  Just throwing my anecdotal information into the mix until someone less lazy provides spreadsheets.

 

Speaking of anecdotal: Of the Elite Boss trick-or-treat monsters, Arisen Mummy is the only one that takes more than 2 holds to stop.  This Blaster can solo all of the other Elite Bosses unscathed by chain holding them.

Good to hear! I just hit 16 on the new Dark/Storm so I still have a ways to go before I can slot them but I have 2 planned for the build!

 

Ice blasters are so much fun! They have like 30% Troller DNA!

Third this. My first homecoming character was an icex3 blaster that had really good control and really good damage.
