Trauma Junkie Posted October 29 Posted October 29 I created my own trophy room in my base, and I populated it with a small variety of art, sculptures, costume pieces, weapons...etc. It got me thinking, it'd be great if there were trophies to be earned in game. Perhaps special missions, story arcs, and/or Task forces could offer trophies as a prize to put in your base. Maybe weapons, capes, or even tech from the various factions of critters encountered. Maybe one could assemble for their trophy room a NON-Working-for-display-only Mechman, Warhulk, Tarantula Mistress or whatever, by completing a mission/story arc/task force multiple times and selecting different pieces from an award list. Display cases, cabinets, and pedestals would be cool too! 5
Rudra Posted October 29 Posted October 29 More trophies for bases are a good thing. That said, I have to point a few things out: There are trophies available for SG bases currently. They are an assortment of weapons and costume pieces from specific characters that are in display cases. Tarantula Mistresses and Tarantula Queens are living humans. They just happen to be spider-themed cyborgs. They are not robots that can be left in non-functioning states for display purposes. You can already have a MekMan on display. You just have to assemble it. Depending on what you plan on putting on it, there are lots of options for display cases. And I'm not talking about the already available display cases in the base editor. From the small circular tables to the flat board with the angle cuts to the empty version of the Mystic Shelf, we have options for display cases. I am not against adding specifically display cases, I am just saying we already have options for them.

The items I listed were just examples for the sake of an idea, not necessarily the specific goal. The items currently found in the base builder are fine, but only represent a very small fraction of what's out there. Moreover, I'm not suggesting more stuff being made available in the base builder, but rather things that can only be earned in game, and will not be available in the base builder.

You gave examples for trophies and I responded as to why a given example would not likely be available as a non-functioning trophy or how it is already available. I am not against adding more things to the base editor. 17 minutes ago, Trauma Junkie said: Moreover, I'm not suggesting more stuff being made available in the base builder, but rather things that can only be earned in game, and will not be available in the base builder. In order for us to put something in our bases, it has to be available in the base editor. Even if like back on Live it has to be unlocked. (And to be clear, I am against requiring things for our bases to require being unlocked again.) How do you propose having trophies for our bases if they aren't available in the base editor? Edited October 29 by Rudra Edited to correct "be" to "require being". And again to add "not likely be available as".
Jiro Ito Posted October 29 Posted October 29 would definitely love stuff like this. bonus points for ability to edit the description so I can write the date earned and with whom I teamed 2 Play my AE Adventures, listed under @Jiro Ito, including award winners: "The Headless Huntsman of Salamanca" #43870 **Scrapbot AE Contest Winner May 2022** "On the Claw-Tipped Wings of Betrayal" #43524 **November 2021 Dev's Choice** "The Defenders of Talos" #44578 **Mission Architect Competition Winner for October 2021: REBIRTH**

I see where the confusion lies, and forgive me for not thinking it through. Yes, you are correct, they would have to be placed via the base editor. I don't see a way around that. I was only thinking about earning trophies to be displayed in the base, and didn't give any thought as to how those trophies would be added to the base. Sadly, the only solution I can think of currently would be an "unlock" system, which I have to agree, would not be desirable.
lemming Posted October 29 Posted October 29 iirc, they were going to add something for bases that was earned, but people pointed out that some of the base builders don't necessarily have the ability to unlock, etc... so I'm pretty sure that was just made available to everyone. Being able to make plaques and the like would be a nice feature, but not sure how easy that would be to implement. Right now I suppose you could use the tiny letters as much of a pain that would be. 1
Frozen Burn Posted October 29 Posted October 29 Back on live, things were "unlocked" by SG badges and prestige earned. This again opens a whole can of worms and heated debate that it would be nice to avoid. So... no to unlocking... but YES to adding in more items as trophies. Then the player can add them in one by one as they complete their own things. Complete the Hess TF? Add in a mekman robot to your trophy room. Complete Pandora's Box SSA? Add in that broken Jaeger bot. And etc, etc, etc.... 1
ZacKing Posted October 30 Posted October 30 There's already an item like this in game - the Candy Cauldron that is unlocked at Annah in Croatoa. Just need either enough Halloween salvage or getting all of the Dr. Kane's badges to unlock it. I wouldn't mind more stuff getting unlocked by running bits of content. With that said, I wouldn't be holding my breath for it. Bases aren't something this current team looks to be interested in or wants to focus on. I doubt we'll ever see anything getting added to or improving the editor. 1
mistagoat Posted October 30 Posted October 30 (edited) Weren't there "personal items" that one used to be able to add to the base? I only have a vague recollection of it but I thought that was essentially exactly what you're asking for, a toon goes out on adventures and brings back a personal trophy that could be added to the base. Honestly I wouldn't mind if every story arc you completed rewarded you with some small trinket that you could throw on a shelf or maybe a wall hanger type thing. I love the idea of plaques that you could write on and edit! Not that I remember. There were raidable items, but not personal items. I'm inclined to think you are thinking of a previous suggestion thread.

IIRC personal items were either a specific set of base workshop crafted items and the existing trophy items and such we already have in the editor (Jack's Club, Stateman's helmet, Nemesis and Rikti rifles etc.) and unlocking those were tied to Vet rewards. All the craftable stuff is in the editor now too. I don't think the personal base items permissions option even exists anymore because there's no Vet rewards system and everything is already in the editor. Permission to add personal items used to be a setting under the SG permissions, but it's not there anymore. I know the button for adding a personal item still exists, but it's always disabled. 1
Excraft Posted October 30 Posted October 30 3 hours ago, mistagoat said: Weren't there "personal items" that one used to be able to add to the base? Yes. They were part of the Veteran Rewards system and started at 12 Months. This much I remember because I was stoked when I hit 30 months and could get all of the signature character trophy pieces to add to my humble one room base. All of these trophy items are available in the editor now, so there's no need to unlock them. For me, I don't think we should get into adding any new unlockable items for bases. Just like the costume pieces, vanity pets and badges, these things were part of the incentives to keep the money flowing by keeping your subscription active. Paragon didn't want people subbing for a month when new content dropped and then unsubscribing until the next update. Sub fees are no longer an issue here and never will be. Also as has been said already here, bases aren't something the folks here seem all that keen on doing anything with. That's not a criticism of the team at all, just an observation.
