Melee Speedster Suggestions

Recommended Posts

So I've been thinking of making what I call a Pure Speedster. That being a Speedster that only has Super Speed as their superpower and nothing else, which means powerset wise I'd want to use ones that are just physical attacks (like Street Justice, Super Strength, etc)) or passive benefits (Like Invulnerability, Regen, Super Reflexes, etc).

So what would you all suggest for Archetype, Powersets and overall build? The main focus of this thematic build would be focusing on the Speed Power Pool powers and trying to crank up End Regen and Power Recharge as high as I can to really get the speedster feeling.

Seems my next character will be a StJ/SR Brute then! It'll be interesting cause I don't really play Melee archetypes most of the time, I normally play MM and Supporters mainly, with the occasional blaster, so it'll be neat to experience and pure Melee build, though I kind of figured that the "Pure Speedster" themed build would be Melee focused for obvious reasons lol.

It may seem counterintuitive, but staff fighting has some flashy moves that could kind of be interpreted as "I can swing this around like I do because of my super speed"...

hmmm.. i think i might try this out.  Makes me think of the Kazekage from Naruto Shippuden.  He kind of looks like Hulk Hogan, he's super fast and Super Strong.  So I'm thinking of going Super Strength/ SR Brute. I also suggest picking up the entire Super Speed powers, such as Hasten and Flurry.

Dark melee is good cause the one cone is super fast and looks like a speedster punching super quick. The name eludes me. I’d definitely go SR though. It has quickness which boosts run speed. Rest of dark might not fit theme though.  But that one power soooo fits.

The attack you're thinking of is Shadow Maul.  Touch of Fear also now includes a Melee AoE around the primary target, with the Fear only being ST.

Yeah that is it.  Wasn't home at the time.  Also can use it and whirlwind to have two.  Whirlwind is slower for some reason though.  I know they buffed dark is why, but I would change time of whirlwind too.  Has to be an easy fix.

To my knowledge, whirlwind doesn't do damage, I think you're thinking of flurry, which is a ST attack.

What this team needs is more Defenders

I wouldn't ignore the weapon sets actually.  They are just as plausibly "pure speedster" because the power doesn't have to be in the weapon so much as the arm wielding it.

The reason you want to look at weapons is what @biostem said.  Some of them, like Staff, are just plain "speedier" looking animation wise.  Staff can even have it's effects colored to add trailing light to the moves to enhance the idea they're just going at super speed.  Claws and Savage are also great for this.  Dual Blades is almost unnaturally fast looking in its animations.  Ironically, I've always disliked that about it but it might fit if you are purposely wanting something that's unnaturally fast looking.

Staff, Claws, Savage, or DB will all just flow too.  You'll be a non-stop blender set on "puree" in combat and that will fit right in with theme.  Savage in particular has Rending Flurry with its Frenzy powered expanded radius that you can imagine is you running around to all the enemies and hitting them personally, even though it just looks like you spinning in place.  Consider taking Combat Teleport and getting used to keybinds for it to BAMF around like you're running too fast for the eye to see as well.

Nice, I was looking at them initially cause of what Biostem said as well, but you definitely really laid it out, thanks! And yea, I'll definitely be looking at them for the next speedster I make. I'm doing StJ/SR currently and building them thematically enhancements wise rather then optimally, so focusing on recharge speed and endurance, which has been a lot of fun.
