Yeah, my bad.  The res debuff reduces the damage resistance part but not purple patch part.  PP is like un-debuffable damage resistance in that respect.  So against a +4 AV you only get 9.6% better damage (rounding a little) out of that debuff.  In any case, it's not "0.15 effectiveness" as was previously mentioned in the thread.  Most commonly, it's 30% (+5) or 48% (+4) effective, which is still quite a bit better than nothing for a one-slot expense considering it's boosting all damage by that amount from all sources (i.e. not just you) if you are teaming.

note: 0.85 was used in error, a +3 AV is 0.86 ResMod close enough for government work.

    • EXAMPLE ABOVE HAD PLAYER CAST 100% RESDUFF ON ENEMY...
    • PURPLE PATCH MODIFIER NUMBER IS THE MAIN DRIVER, USED TWICE IN FORMULA.
    • RES DOES NOT CASCADE ON ENEMY, WORKS ON BASE NUMBERS WITH EACH APPLICATION.
    • MAYBE WITH DAMAGE SET-BONUSES.  LOL.

It's 65% because level shift turns +4's into +3's effectively.

If you're a 50 Incarnate playing the game at 45+, sure.

Getting +1 once you reach 50 is very easy nowadays, so are you implying that running low level AV content at +4 is a common affair?

This thread is about res debuffs and the purple patch, not what type of gameplay is most common.   I get that you seem to want to nitpick an irrelevant single word out of my post for no reason whatsoever, but I'm just not interested.  Anyone who is interested in what resMod applies their their own situation can look that up.  That's the point of this thread.

I can't tell from your post which part you didn't expect.  The purple patch affects both incoming damage and debuffs, so it appears twice in the equation: once to reduce the incoming damage and again to reduce the total of all debuffs.  If it's the part about not cascading... yeah, I bet that isn't super common knowledge outside of people who play a lot of res-based toons.

I'm just trying to keep things relevant, and pointing out obvious stuff like how level shifts work isn't relevant in the slightest.

  • I NEVER WORKED OUT ACTUAL DAMAGE NUMBERS BEFORE NOW.
  • ...WAS EXPECTING MORE ACTUAL DAMAGE DEALT IS ALL.
  • THE WIKI LINK ON RES NEEDS TO BE PURGED.  LOL..  LIKED IT BETTER WITH THE "NO PURPLE PATCH" IN THE FORMULA AS THE WIKI HAD IT.
  • STILL, DROPPING THE RES ON AN ENEMY HELPS QUITE A BIT. 
  • BESIDES, WE HAVE PROCS OR MULTI-PROCS TO HELP US, DAMAGE ENHANCE/SET-BONUSES AND SOME POWERS TO BRING DAMAGE LEVEL BACK UP.

  • OK SO...
  • SAME AS BEFORE: 100 DAMAGE ATTACK; 110% DAMAGE ENHANCEMENTS BEFORE ED (95 ISH AFTER ED).
  • NOW ADDING 100% DAMAGE GLOBAL SET-BONUS VALUE...
  • NOW DEBUFFING ENEMY RES OF AN +3AV TO ENEMY MINIMUM VALUE OF -300%
  • (PRETTY MUCH MAXING OUT AT THIS POINT).

THE "3" IS ACTUALLY 300%... IGNORE THE 100% NEXT TO IT, JUST A DESCRIPTION AND NOT PART OF CALC.
