Is it worth the slots?

I see some builds with, some without, some with only one.

My understanding is that only the Phantasm would benefit, not the PA? How about Spectral Terror? And I've heard some folks say that the phantasm is impossible to keep alive anyway, so why bother trying?

I'm building my first Illusion and this is what keeps me up at night.  JK.  Kind of.

Thanks!

I would not recommend.

Indeed only Phantasm would benefit. You might consider them if you have some significant baseline buffs to help Phanty, which will make the further pet aura buffs a bit more meaningful.

Even then, there almost definitely better places for those slots in your build. The only Control set I've used them on is Ice, where they were pretty handy to top off Jack's defense to softcap and I had some flex slots anyhow.

It's not worth it, neither PA or Spooky benefit. I do 6-slot Expedient Reinforcement in Phantasm on both my Illusion controllers, largely for the ranged defense bonus, but the 10% pet resist bonus does nothing to keep Phantasm alive.

I franken slot.

So there might be set bonuses for only slotting 2 or 3 in a power that you might find useful.

I almost always put two Lockdowns in any hold power.

https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Lockdown:_Chance_for_%2B2_Mag_Hold and https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Lockdown:_Recharge/Hold which gives "Two enhancements improves the Damage of all your powers by 3%". If If I have multiple fairly-fast-recharge hold powers, I would put in a third lockdown in both of them for the stacked "Three enhancements improves the duration of your Hold effects by 2.5%."

That third Lockdown for me would most likely be https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Lockdown:_Accuracy/Hold unless it is a high end-use hold power.

I would probably end up putting a https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Devastation:_Chance_for_Hold in https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Illusion_Control#Spectral_Wounds in most cases.

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

It DependsTM

If your secondary is already buffing their defense and/or resistance but can't quite get them to the Softcap?
Of if you're already wanting to take one/both of the Recharge Intensive Sets for their 4-piece Set Bonus?
Or if you simply have some extra enhancement slots free?
Go for it.

I've got an Illusion/Time with 1x Def Aura IO (because with PB'd+Clarioned Farsight+GroupInvis they're sitting at >40% Def already) and both the Res Aura IOs.

I don't on Carni, even though I also have a pet Tarantula which could benefit. The KB2KD is the one I always want slotted because Phantys cone can be annoying and scatter things out of Tar Patch. Plus the Explosive Proc because all their attacks can trigger it (certainly the blasts).

I have perma-PAs to tank for me, Phanty should be fine as-is between Fade and all the -ToHit. If they die I just make another one.
