I have problems with mouse and kb to play, my hands are having issues and I can no longer use the mouse and kb to play because they hurt and cramp up when I do. I also have carpal. I can like summon a pet or non emergency clicks I can do but actively pressing to target heals fast or placing things that require you to aim then click again like area attacks or placing a patch of healing or slowing tar I am unable to do on the set up I have.

See I can using the controller map 1-0 that is 10 abilities on the A,B,X,Y buttons and then D-pad another 4 and the right and left shoulder for 9 and 10. The triggers can be control and alt for another 20 keys if I want but I won't need that many keys. So I may use them for targeting or switching targets. I can set the 'back' or 'start' button to tab to target.

However my biggest problem is that I like playing Masterminds and I noticed that I will have issues targeting the pet for single target heals or buffs with the controller. I can use the mouse in between to click and use those powers but when in a chaotic fight I will not be able to heal effectively if my right hand is holding the mouse and clicking to heal while my left hand is holding the controller. This is a not going to work.

So I need help. I was wondering whether anyone can suggest some other AT I can play where I can tab target mobs to kill but I will not have any skills I will need to aim with the mouse to place on the ground. I can just hit buttons for skills and I can play the class effectively with a controller.

I have played WoW with the controller easily classes like the paladin and even the hunter controlling the pet with the right trigger set to control and using the control + number for pet command/skills.

However the big issue with Mastermind is the skills that require you to target either a particular pet and you need to actually target and click it to work. If it is a cone I can simply turn and press the skill and that can work.

It has been some time since I played so I cannot really remember how the powers are and which AT and power set requires actively targeting individual targets for healing in a fight. Buffs are not done in an emergency so I can refresh them with the mouse.

I really would appreciate any suggestions from anyone of any AT or preferably an MM combination I can play with the controller.

I did post this on Reddit but felt this forum would probably be a better place to ask this

Edit: I changed the right trigger from control to left mouse so I can now click with the right trigger but I cannot aim because using the right stick to aim an area skill takes far longer than just using the mouse. The right stick is very unwieldly to aim with. This is driving me bonkus.

I am looking for smart targeting or converting the aoe attacks that will simply deploy with one click.

Scrapper or brute class could work also in that they can attack with just the keys or cone attacks. Just no area or attacks that require you to aim on the ground and click again to drop it. I can manage most keys on kb on the joy2key setup.

You can definitely just use a Controller to play most of the game. I do. Even on a MM. Throwing the mouse in too makes camera movement and mission objective interaction much easier... although having one Analogue thumb stick for movement and another for camera rotation plus an "Activate" bind can go a long way.

Typically my left hand is always holding a Joypad whilst my right hand alternates between the joypad and the mouse. Occasionally that right hand might drift over towards the keyboard numpad, but it's not a regular occurrence (mainly for selecting individual teammates or henchmen without needing to click on them, or triggering long recharge time buffs like Incarnate and Alignment Clickies). Enemy target cycling is done via D-pad left/right with D-pad down bound to a "select nearest problematic enemy" bind that prioritises Sappers and DE eminators etc.

Whilst the Numpad buttons are certainly helpful for handling targeting + fine control of individual MM henchmen... I get by 99% of the time with this setup (mainly just tapping one key at the start of each mission to set my "mode", followed by repeatedly using power tray macros to handle Goto and Attack commands)

Using a controller.. I use a PS2. The Logitech's are similar.

A stalker might be a good fit. Take placate.

You'll be hidden until you don't want to be hidden and Placate makes it so you can hide again.

1-8 noted below correspond to tray positions

8 is usually my build up spot on tray 1 and hasten on tray 2

X = Jump

L3 = Nearest target

R3 = Next Target

Directional ^ = Follow

Directional < = Switch Tray (I just use this for tray 1 now)

Directional > = Switch Tray (I just use this for tray 2 now)

Directional v = Cancel Power

Select = Map

One stick is for movement the other is to look around (I flip the look up/down opposite of the default)

Thank you so much these were very helpful. You saved me.

Also reddit poster said to use the

  • /powexec_location target Tar Patch

     to change the click at location to targeted

Left thumbstick is my wasd so that is okay and I have my right thumbstick as jump when pressed down. I must remember cancel power forgot that was important.

Refining preference over time you'll get it how you prefer. I do ramp up the turning speed. Menu > Options > Controls > Control Sensitivity > Turning (set to 400)

These are super helpful:

  • R3 = Next Target (allows cycling through targets)
  • L3 = Nearest target (resets the cycling to the nearest target)

For the thumb sticks there is some nuance. I don't do 'wasd' on the left, only 'ws'. Reason: A lot of the tunnels have a little jog left and jog right which are easier to strafe than turn.

  • Left thumb-stick
    • Forward
    • Back
    • Strafe Left (not turn)
    • Strafe Right
    • Clicking or Pushing it = Nearest target
  • Right thumb-stick
    • Forward = Look Down
    • Back - Look Up
    • Turn Left
    • Turn Right
    • Clicking or Pushing it = Next target

Doors are a challenge. Selectable objects as well.

We can use something like slash command /interact to "Interact with an object or entity in front of the player using a keyboard key (equivalent to left-click on object)"

Teleport can be done with binds with good success.

I use the mouse and KB when I am not in any hurry like summoning the pets or clicking doors but I know what you mean when you are like in a dreadful hurry and things are chasing you and you need to exit the mission. It can be quite clumsy to set the controller down to click the door.

I am wondering if I might be better off just using the kb like the numbers from 1-5, Q,E R T and using the control and shift to go between the action bars for more powers or commanding the pets. I had forgotten that I have to also individually command some pets which has their own macro for. I suppose I can manage but it won't be optimal.

I played ARPGs like Path of Exile and Last Epoch using the keyboard and left click on the mouse. I actually ruined my hand by using that 12 button mice. They made it possible to use only the thumb and by overuse of my thumb I developed excruciating pain after repeated use of the digit and contorting it to reach at least 9 side buttons. I was so excited when I discovered that mouse only to rue the day I became proficient at it.

One advice I can give in my advanced years is overuse of any finger or thumb will lead to consequences. Controllers are so much more kinder.

100% this.

Everyone's going to have slightly different preferences as to how to tweak their control scheme; especially us users of unholy frankinsteinian combinations of Joypad/Mouse/Keyboard/KitchenSink.

FWIW, a visual representation of my default kitbashed setup (the horror!) is below. However I normally tweak it a fair bit depending on the toon in question to implement some additional functionality (e.g. the DPad "Down" key typically also activates Hasten, and performing any movement will activate Clarion Destiny incarnate on toons that take it or start activating my Melee toon's armor toggles, with Mez Protection first!)

My "Regular/Default" setup:

Numpad tweaks for Masterminds:

...and my other MM controls (as mentioned previously, but copied here for completeness' sake):

B "petcom_all defensive follow" [Bodyguard mode]
G "petcom_all aggressive" [aGgressive]
H "petcom_all passive follow" [Heel]
and usually also a Variable key which sets most pets to Bodyguard mode and leaves one alone (to instantly give me some survivability but let one pet continue to attack etc) e.g.
V "petcom_pow 'Battle Drones'follow defensive$$petcom_pow 'Protector Bots' follow defensive"

PowerTray #1 is set to "Attack this target" ("petcom_all attack" mostly, sometimes altered so just one pet attacks) and PowerTray #2 is set to "Go here" ("petcom_all goto").
On most maps I can enter a mission, press G then V and then amble around instructing my little engines of destruction to "go here" quite a lot.
