Clave Dark 5 Posted Thursday at 12:16 PM Posted Thursday at 12:16 PM I had two missions that I had put in a heck of a lot of time on that no longer appear in my "local stories" list. Just gone. There's no "autosaved copy" or anything on the list that might be disguising what it was once called, etc. Did I accidentally delete them somehow? Is there some know bug that might hide them or delete them when some weird glitch kicks in? If these are gone even after the "autosave on" function and everything, I am beyond crushed here, I pout in hours and hours on these. Clave Dark 5 Posted Thursday at 01:19 PM Author Posted Thursday at 01:19 PM Even better: now looking at a third arc I'd been working on and it's lost some of what was put into it, like it'd reverted to a previous version, or didn't save work I'd done automatically (I never turn off the auto save) and didn't save it when I clicked "save and exit." Defeat All Snakes Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Quote (I never turn off the auto save) I am so, so sorry, but I think I may have found your problem. Autosave in the AE is a deathtrap. It is integrated malware. It will never help you. It exists solely to brick whatever it was you were working on with no warning. My advice is to turn it off immediately, and to try and get into the habit of hitting the manual save every now and then as a twitch reflex. I cannot apologize enough for not telling you this sooner, but I'm at the stage now where this has burned so many people that I just assume everybody knows. That said, there may be other explanations, as autosave usually at least leaves a corpse. Is it possible something was moved around in your file structure? Sadly, though, it's likely the only comfort I can offer is that all your custom characters and groups should still be intact, and that recreating the actual arc structure is generally much faster the second time around, when you already have the setup figured out and know where everything's supposed to go. And yes, I speak from experience. Once again, condolences, and I can only hope I'm wrong.
lemming Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I have never had an issue with autosave, but I also save manually. Did you change anything with your file structure? This is the same computer? Local save should all be in your Games/Homecoming/architect directory under missions.
Clave Dark 5 Posted 13 hours ago Author Posted 13 hours ago Nothing changed with my file structure, I even dug up the missions folder inside the game, there's just nothing. left. I have always left the auto-save on, as well and saving stuff manually when I'm done. I've been doing AE stuff since Live, never seen this happen before. I know the chance for operator error exists, and recall having cleaned up my list using the AE window not too long ago, so I'll even perhaps own up to having disappeared one of these myself. But both, so soon together? Wondering if somehow the "save" bit of info somehow when out when there was a gap in my internet flow and instead it just ate the thing? But then surely my previous version of the two would have remained on my drive right? I still have all my notes for one of them, but the other I don't think so, all I have left of that one is the NPC contact I created, everything else vanished. This system is just such trash. I've noticed a brief delay after saving/republishing AE arcs so working on two back to back could cause problems. Even when leaning on autosave (which I rarely do since I inherently don't trust autosave in games with a manual save) I make sure I initially make a manual save so the named files don't overwrite each other. Out of curiosity, when did you download Homecoming? Since launcher has changed, you might somehow have two save locations. Clave Dark 5 Posted 20 minutes ago Author Posted 20 minutes ago @ZamuelNow I've thought about that, but it seems odd it's never done this to me ever before until right now, you know? Wondering if maybe such a problem has recently been made worse or something. Now after I save I've leaving the game up for some minutes before turning it off. The install I'm running now was set up not too long ago when we all had to swap to the new installer, but again, weird it hasn't done to this to any other work I've done since then (which isn't insignificant), and I have already gone round checking my various saves and other locations without luck.
