DDO online

has anyone played DDO online and how is it. been thinking about giving it try. what do you guys think about it. just wanting to know the good and the bad about it whether i decide to try it or not.

It's been a hot minute since I played, but by and large I enjoyed it.  My only gripe is that the developers do what all MMO developers seem fated to do, and that is to make rules that they think the players want without really understanding why they want it.  Off the top of my head that's packed with fuzzy memories, I remember that mechanic rogues switched from being masters with locks, traps, and secret doors to becoming crossbow DPS.

 

That said, I've compared the game to COH in that each class has (or at least had) a wealth of options to choose from.

Played it way back when it first launched as Dungeons and Dragons Online Stormreach. It was fun enough, especially if you enjoy the 3.5 edition of D&D. I remember the puzzles and mechanics of the dungeons being interesting and emphasizing exploration and investigation to find everything (though a lot of my memories are from the very early game). It seems they've gone into a F2P model with a cash shop and a number of expansions since then, so being locked out of content is something to keep in-mind - not that most live MMOs don't utilize that sort of arrangement these days.

I played it for about a year, but stopped about 6-8 months ago. Every time I turned around some game mechanic or implementation had be saying "that's so stupid", to the point where I just started saying "that's so DDO." Add to that, they still charge full retail prices for their expansions, $20 and up.

 

On occasion you can luck out and catch one of their 'Free Questing Coupons' like this one offered last year, which granted access to almost 50 quests. I only played it because my friends played it, otherwise I had zero interest in it.
