Scarlet Shocker Posted March 18 Posted March 18 I dipped into a game I've not played for a long while this week. I was always a fan of the original Dungeon Keeper, despite janky bitmap graphics et al but I loved War for the Overworld even more, despite it being a tribute/clone/homage. I keep forgetting there's a level in the game that always gives me a BFG - it's a whole bunch of skeletons and necromancers running around causing mayhem. That mission is titled "Go Hunt. Kill Skuls" That's the biggest grin of all. The fact that an homage is giving a nod to another game that I love even more seems to give me a warm fuzzy feeling. Maybe we don't need to be spending close to £75 a pop for the latest games (of course on the latest rigs, cuz they don't look right otherwise) we just need great gaming experiences and fun communities. The odd in-joke won't hurt too much either! 8 If going to space for 11 minutes makes you an astronaut, then I'm probably an expert gynaecologist.

He pulls in new heroes to his cause with a terse, muttered phrase, “Go. Hunt. Kill Skuls." 😉 Edited March 19 by Maelwys
Scarlet Shocker Posted March 19 Author Posted March 19 It seems I mistyped the mission name from WFTO but yes... it is clearly a direct reference to our beloved game. If going to space for 11 minutes makes you an astronaut, then I'm probably an expert gynaecologist.

The misspelling of "Skuls" in our game's "famous" quote is part of the humor and charm, which is why I was surprised to see it elsewhere.

I got Dungeon Keeper free somehow on one of the giveaways - Funny though, I have the physical CD in a biscuit tin under my monitor. Did you play Evil Genius? That gave me Dungeon Keeper vibes. "You knew I was a snake when you took me in."
