I just ran a WPTW tank to 50 very rapidly in the MapServer event with a few side quests and she's now at 50 and needing a big respec

I'm inexperienced in tankery things and though I had a TW brute and WP tank on live a) I've forgotten much that I knew about them and b) I understand TW went through big changes in the intervening period so;

What do I need to know?

What APP/PPP would work well?

What powers are skippable? What are essential?

Any particular build advice?

Thanks

I would suggest skipping the last 2 powers from WP. IMHO, there's no need for Resurgence, since your goal is to never die. On my WP tank, I never felt like I needed Strength of Will. I played TW a couple years ago, and don't remember much, so I won't say anything about it, as you probably know more about it than I.

As far as Epics, I took Soul Mastery. Gloom is a nice attack, plus a great spot to slot (at least 3) Apocalypse for the Max HP bonus and the Regen bonus. Summon Widow is also a great power to slot (again, at least 3) Soulbound Allegiance for the same set bonuses. And of course, Darkest Night is a very nice to hit/damage debuff. Remember, the more HP you have, the more you'll regen. On my WP/Staff, with 1 enemy in range of RttC, I regen 125 HP/Sec. Be sure to get all the accolades that increase your End and HP. I also went Vigor for my Alpha to get as much HP/Regen as I could.

If you have the slots, think about throwing a couple into Health (Panacea and the Regenerative Tissue +Regen). Remember, the more HP you have, the more you'll regen. I also tried to make sure I put 3 Numina's in my powers (+12% Regen and +1.88% HP). I've seen some people forget to slot the Imp Skin: Status Resist/Regeneration, so be sure to throw it in High Pain Tolerance or Tough.

In Quick Recovery and Stamina, I slotted The Power Transfer: Chance to heal and the End Mod. Those 2 pieces give a +6% Regen increase. I found that in Fast Healing, at least for me and my goals, a full set of Numina's was perfect. I tried to also layer Defense in my build. I was able to hit the Defense softcap for F/C/E/N.E on mine. Guarded Spin, from Staff, gives me a bonus to Melee and Lethal, and I believe that TW has a similar power.

Good luck and let us know how it goes/what you do!

To quote @Spaghetti Betty from a different thread.

Generally, you want to take everything in TW. Defensive Sweep is skippable. A case can be made to drop Titan Sweep as well if something else is desired, but it's still a solid attack for levelling.

Crushing Blow will always be your quickest attack outside of Momentum, so if you ever drop Momentum and Build Momentum isn't up, you should use Crushing Blow.

As far as what to do after Crushing Blow, just do whatever! Inside momentum, you have 2 ST attacks and 3 AoEs, so this should be pretty self explanatory. Arc of Destruction has the best DPA out of the AoEs, so if you need something else to do for ST, just use that.

Definitely consider picking up some epic powers to fill in the gaps! Since you have a lot of recharge boosting at your disposal (nearly every power can take an FF proc), Gloom fits nicely here, and you can even double dip for Dark Obliteration!

I've followed this advice on my TW/Elec tanker and I gotta say, that's good advice.

I didn't do anything too outrageous with my slotting, I focused on survivability vis set bonuses.  My tanking philosophy is that survival comes first, so while the damage is actually pretty solid on AOE, the single target is only fine.  Depending on your budget, toy can squeeze some pretty outstanding defense and resists out of set bonuses, which is how i would likely build it.

YMMV

I largely agree with this. You should be able to hit the S/L resist cap without SoW and the F/C/E/N resists SoW provides doesn't have much to stack with since the primary protection WP provides against those damage types is defense not resist. That said, there is a niche use for SoW (other than serving as a mule for Resist set IOs). One of WP's weaknesses is that it has no protection or resistance to end drain. Arachnos Mu and Malta Sappers can (and will) drop your toggles. SoW provides a 1-click means to restore your mezz protection (it can be cast while mezzed) as well as an unresistible recovery boost.

I’d like to add that you can actually build most WP tanks to have soft capped S/L/E/N/F/C/Psi defense and reasonable resists to all as well.  in my experience makes you tougher than chasing MaxHP and Regen bonuses
