AH Broken?

So, clearly, the AH is not broken. But this happened to me prior to the labyrinth session. I needed a nevermelting ice for the invis buff. 

I was in a rush, so my screen shot isn't that great. My 10k bid sat there. And sat there. Finally after 30 seconds I just bid 50k to see if it would go through, and it went through instantly. Now, it's not the inf - but if that stuff is seeded to sell at 10K (uncommons for 100K, and rares for 1M) what's going on here? It's clearly not lag or latency or whatever, because the 50k went through instantly. Am I supposed to believe someone bought all 10M pieces and relisted? 

 

And whatever the issue was, it's gone now. The sales are back down the normal 11 inf, lol.

Over a thousand players on Excelsior at the moment. I think the /ah has its own server, so maybe it's got lots of pings and you were not at the front of the line.

And I just happened to move to the front with the crazy (relatively) high bid of 50k. Makes sense, I guess. Somebody needs to feed the hamsters that make the server go.

i think that there is an internal pause if there is a bidding war too... meaning that if you are impatient and up-bid slightly higher than the last high bid, it waits a bit to see if there is another, incrementally higher bid. so those that are super impatient will drop a super bid, win the item immediately, but others that are simply impatient will truly gum up the system by trying to get their item but refusing to pay the premium to get it super immediately... 😄

i'm pretty sure there's no such mechanism, and would be really surprised by one, because... why would anyone implement that? defining "if there's a bidding war" seems like a lot of work, and... what problem would this be solving?

ever see someone mash a button 50 times because some command is not working immediately only to have it suddenly start working 30 seconds later, executing that command 50 times is 2 seconds? this is the same thing. 😄

 

i do not think it is a deliberate thing, just that the system takes some time to process the order and people get impatient and then multiply that by several 100 players trying to do the same thing... so rather than sitting back and waiting a few minutes they compound the problem by upping the bid, ad infinitum, ad nauseum... 😉
