My newest tank is Regen/Battle Axe.    All the Battle Axe powers say they inflict 0.67 KB.          However, in battle sometimes I hit enemies and they just go flying!    It's not always, but in some battles I keep knocking the boss so far away that I can't reach them.     I'm deeply concerned about how this will play out once I start joining teams, and want to try and keep the mobs gathered. 

 

But mostly:  I don't understand!!!! 

 

I'm fine with the idea that I may need to add Sudden Acceleration KB/KD procs to all my attacks.        I kind of suspected I might need to when I started this character, and I have probably enough of them in stock with some older characters. 

 

But I don't want to if I don't have to.             Anyone know what is going on with this mechanic?

0.67 is the Knockdown usually, but KB against lower level foes gets increased so KD turns into KB.   There are also a few foes that are vulnerable to KB such as clockwork.  I haven't bothered with KD enhancements since I rarely go against those with my Ax chars.

Think of it like this:  Anything less than 1 for a value of knockback IS knockdown.  The catch is that it is possible, under some circumstances, to stack multiple effects quickly enough to exceed that 1 threshold, thereby turning it into knockback.  Further, as @lemming pointed out, against lower level or particularly susceptible enemies, it may be increased as well, and therefore treated as knockback...

I 2nd and 3rd what @lemming and @biostem stated above.  And additionally.... 

 

As stated above, 0.67 mag KB = KD.  So, adding the KB>KD procs in your powers is a wasted slot.  Those procs lower a power's higher mag KB (3 mag, for instance) down to 0.67 mag, and thus making it KD instead.  So, if the power already does 0.67mag, you're not gaining anything by slotting those procs.

Protip when you discover you are knocking things back with powers that should knock down:

Jump up and attack at the top of your jump.
