Arc-Mage Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Naming a Character, any name that begins with "N," The "N" appears as a lowercase "n." Is that a bug or the Typestyle? It shows up as Capitol "N" in the Name Creator but after the Character is created it reverts to a Lower Case "n" in appearance. I know some Typestyles are like this. The "e" in the LeVI's Jeans Typestyle come to mind. If it's the Typestyle, any chance of changing it so the "N" appears as a Uppercase and not a Lowercase "n"? It really annoys my OCD. It's probably been like this since day one. I just noticed it however as i just made my fist "N" named Superhero in 20+ years. Glacier Peak Posted November 2 Posted November 2 (edited) The Player Name shows a capital "N" if used as the first letter of a name for me. Also shows it in the Character ID screen. Edit: Oh and in the Chat it's also how it should be: Edited November 2 by Glacier Peak I lead weekly Indom Badge Runs / A newer giant monster guide by Glacier Peak / A tour of Pocket D easter eggs! / Arena All-Star Accolade Guide! And the character showed up with the name exactly as typed. Both as personal name over the character (after I turned it on) and in chat. Try renaming the character to anything else and then back to Nuclear Ferret. If that doesn't fix it for some reason and Nuclear Ferret is still level 1, or at least low level, delete and remake. Because the "n" is capitalized everywhere I had it capitalized in Nascent New Neo's name everywhere I checked. Edit: Bear in mind that the character select screen that you are showing us in this clip capitalizes all characters in the name regardless of how you typed up the character's name, so it doesn't tell us if you thought you used a capital "n" but didn't, or if the game is failing to use your character name as typed for some reason. (Edit again: And if you are referring to your character's name as portrayed in the provided screenshot? That is that font's only provided "n". At least in City of.) Edited November 3 by Rudra
lemming Posted November 3 Posted November 3 The font used on the character select screen is a bit different. I think the name of the font is Red Circle. As you can see, the capital N is different from lower case, but the capital does have characteristics of other capital Ns with other fonts.

From Wikipedia: "Red Circle is a geometric sans-serif typeface designed by Harold Lohner and based upon the ca. 1930 lettering used in packaging and advertising for the range of A&P's Eight O'Clock, Red Circle, and Bokar brands of whole bean arabica coffees. It is an all uppercase typeface." So you won't see any size difference between the first and subsequent letters in a name where the font is used unless there is a specific use of point size changes to fake upper and lower case. 1

So, is the answer to this "oh well." I mean, why does it happen to some accounts and not others? I fully realize there are more important things going on in CoH but...it still bugs my OCD aka CDO. And it's kinda dick move to suggest I did. @lemming post shows I'm not the only one that is seeing this. You are taking my comment entirely too personally. We all make mistakes. Asking if it was possible you made a mistake and providing means to correct it if you did is not something you should take offense to. Further, in my post you seem to find so offensive, I also made a comment about the font used on the character select screen and how that was the capital "n".

I used to work in OCR and thru several other things where font recognition was needed and wound up with quite the selection of fonts on my computers. Though some of that was in the age of dot matrix, so now it's just seeing what font looks good for character sheets and the like.
