MonteCarla Posted yesterday at 10:35 AM Posted yesterday at 10:35 AM I'm trying to choose between a Fire/Fiery and Elec/Fiery Dominator Fire Control: All powers benefit from Fiery Embrace, which might be up for 30 out of every 50 seconds once I'm all perma-Hastened up. Is this a big deal though, since most of my damage will still come from my secondary. Hot Feet adds extra AoE Damage and control via the slow and avoid. Flashfire's a good hard control. Is Bonfire going to be much use for someone with this much lockdown? Is the damage worth it? Hasn't changed much since I last played it. Electric Control: Adds a second damage type, useful vs fire resistant enemies. Jolting chain now does base ST hold/immobilise damage, adding some extra AoE, but still eclipsed by my secondary damage. Sleep patch and confuse give me more AoE control Tesla Coil has been given the Volcanic Gas treatment. This means it will proc well compared to Cinders with adaptive recharge, but proc what exactly? Some damage, which will trigger with each pulse might be good. The extra hold from Lockdown would be wasted on a perma-Dominator though. The end drain would mostly be wasted because I'd have no -Recovery, plenty of hard control, and my own end will be fine through Domination and Consume. Has changed since I last played it (but that probably benefits Controllers more) And while I'm here, which powers in Fiery Assault are most skippable? Combustion has a slow animation, and Fire Breath has a small narrow cone. Take both, or which one? I'll probably leave Fire Blast and take Flares. I want to take Incinerate, even though its mainly DoT and does less damage than Blaze. Consume is ripe for damage-proccing as a mini-nuke as well as an end recovery tool. Everything else is a definite take. What do people who've played these sets think? EnjoyTheJourney Posted yesterday at 03:29 PM Posted yesterday at 03:29 PM (edited) I'd probably back my way into choosing a primary for fiery assault by asking what kind of playstyle fiery assault tends to favor and how I'd like to play it. In my experience fiery assault works really well for a primarily ranged dominator; fire breath is a much better AOE than combustion, allowing your dominator to do much more AOE damage overall. With such a short recharge for fire breath, after getting good global recharge, you really don't need combustion once you take fire breath. You can pick up fire mastery when taking fiery assault and slot up fireball for high recharge; Ragnarok is a really good set for fireball, dropping the damage IO and taking all of the other five IOs in that set for maximum recharge and for a knockdown that usually applies to mobs when using fireball. Fire breath can be proc'd up to do really good DPA. Alternatively, you can put in the artillery set, have better ranged defense, most likely have fire breath up more often, and do lots of AOE damage anyways, albeit at the cost of more animation time. Mobs tend to fall over fairly soon either way, especially on teams. In the end neither choice is a priori wrong, it's totally up to your preference. Not sure there's too much difference in the electric and fire control sets in their effectiveness overall. Both sets can be quite effective operating at range, which fits well with what fiery assault does best. Still, for fiery assault I would tend to favor electric control primarily because a force feedback +recharge IO can be put into jolting chain to speed up recharge for key powers such as fire breath, blaze, and fiery embrace (and fireball if you take fire mastery). All that said, concept or theme may be important for your level of enjoyment and it would be difficult to go wrong with either primary. Also, combustion is mechanically not a great AOE damage skill. But, if your concept for your character requires it you could drop fire breath, take combustion, and still have an effective character. Edited yesterday at 04:09 PM by EnjoyTheJourney 1
Uun Posted yesterday at 05:00 PM Posted yesterday at 05:00 PM I haven't played Fiery Assault, but I've played both Fire and Electric Control and they have very different play styles. With Fire, your go-to control is Flashfire (targeted AoE stun). Hot Feet is good, but requires you to be in melee range. I tend to use Bonfire if Flashfire isn't recharged or I'm dealing with adds. Note, the nerf to Bonfire while using a KB>KD IO is negated if the foes are immobilized, so I always drop Fire Cages on top of it. Electric's go-to control is Synaptic Overload (chain confuse), which was greatly improved in the latest patch. Jolting Chain is used by both you and your pets and keeps most of your foes flopping, as well as working reasonably well with procs. The sleep patch (Static Field) is very useful because it reapplies every 4s. I tend to use it sparingly as it works against the confuse. Conductive Aura isn't wasted at all - every one of Electric's powers has -recovery and it also buffs your regen and recovery. 1 Uuniverse
MonteCarla Posted 17 hours ago Author Posted 17 hours ago Oh yeah, the Electric Control powers are packing -Recovery. I missed that. I think I'll give Elec/Fiery/Fire a go. Fire Breath, but not Combustion. Got it! Thanks for the feedback! 🙂 1 The Badass Empath Guide Modern Force Fields Guide The Rich Alt's Guide to Perma-Dom Resistances for Brutes Proc Bombing for Defenders
MoonSheep Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago my main is a mind/fire dom. you’ll love elec/fire - it’s what i’d remake it into the damage output of /fire is fantastic, you’re essentially a blaster with more tricks and mez protection i’d highly recommend picking incinerate over flares. the damage is much higher and will remain a useful part of your attack chain as an opener when jumping into melee throughout all levels If you're not dying you're not living
