CaptainFantastic Posted Friday at 08:52 AM Posted Friday at 08:52 AM So, just coming back to game after probably roughly 2 year break. This powerset is new to me. Looking for a build with either Dual Blades and Psionic Armor, and not really seeing a whole lot. Would like to include Fly and Hover as my preferred travel powers, with a toggle between them to swap to Hover while in combat for the extra mobility/control. Other than that, I don't have a lot of ideas and I'm also new to Brutes in general. Anyone have some advice, tips, builds I could shoot for, etc? Money is definitely a problem, I don't have much, never got much done on characters once I hit 50 on the few I have, but I can pillage the geared ones if I need to. Seems like Psionic is more about regen/recovery and resists than it is defense, but any ways to get defenses to decent level as well?

Here's an Elec/Psi build to get you started on the Psi side of things. Don't worry about defense with Psi Armor. It has one power that gives defense and it's not much and weak at that, especially with no DDR to keep it up when you need it. Go for getting your resists up, and then using your Consume to keep your Regen up. Aura of Insanity is the key to your survival. Also, I'd for sure work in at least the Cupid's Crush proc into the build to stack with AoI (which should have the Confuse Purple Proc in it). Brute (Electrical Melee - Psionic Armor).mbd 1
Triumphant Posted Friday at 07:00 PM Posted Friday at 07:00 PM Yeah, as @BrandX says, make absolutely sure that you take Aura of Insanity. The defense on the set is crap and the resist is pretty decent, but not the best,. That's because the set was (IMO at least- the dev that made the set is certainly justified to correct me on this point, if that is not the case) seemingly balanced around that particular power, which is EXTREMELY effective in what it does. In order to keep it from being OP, I'm guessing it was probably necessary to sort of mute the usual methods of mitigating damage. I love the set. It feels very unique and is one of my favorite new sets on scrappers, sentinels, and brutes (haven't tried it on tankers or stalkers yet). Once you get a feel for how the set works, I think you'll really like it. Such things are subjective, of course, so YMMV. Also, welcome back! 1
CaptainFantastic Posted Friday at 10:13 PM Author Posted Friday at 10:13 PM Appreciate the recommendations both of you! Really looking forward to getting back into it, and never done a resist based character, always gone with defense based builds, so kinda new to that also, haha. Any recommendations for dual blades? I know the usual method is dump loads of money for that like 3 attack non-combo chain for max output, but I don't have near the money to get that up and running. I can probably scrounge a few hundred mil between characters at best if I was to pillage my others, and I'd rather not do that if I can help out. Really appreciate that Elec Melee build also, how does it work out in combat effectiveness? Only done Electric Melee on a Stalker so far and it was fun, but I know they play much differently than a Brute.

Honestly, this game is easy enough to get the build of your dreams if you actually want to get it. Get to 50 and TinPex is a good 80 merits a day in like 30 mins. Some of it, for what I would do, would depend on what you plan to do with the epic. While not favored by many, Blinding Feint > Attack Vitals Combo > Repeat is enough DPS once build to solo AVs. What epic are you going for? 1
CaptainFantastic Posted Saturday at 01:08 AM Author Posted Saturday at 01:08 AM Honestly, don't know what epic I'd go for. Something thematic that'd also help boost the character in some way, haha. And yeah, I know the Blinding Feint, Vitals combo is supposed to be the most optimized, but think it requires a crazy amount of recharge if I remember right. Open to suggestions/etc, I'm by no means anything more than barely knowledgeable, and definitely not here in all the new stuff on Homecoming.

Blinding Feint -> Attack Vitals combo should be much more easily attainable. 1

Blinding Feint > Attack Vitals Combo > Repeat is really easy to obtain. It's the non combo version that requires some serious +RCH. You're a Brute tho, so if Gloom fits your concept, it's a good Epic Attack to fit into the Combo and non combo for DPS. 1
Thraxen Posted yesterday at 03:06 AM Posted yesterday at 03:06 AM Psi armor is super fun. It’s click heavy though. i just made another db too. It’s a regen/db tank. I use bf then weaken combo. It’s not best dps but the weaken debuffs their damage and helps some with mitigation. I also use 1k cuts which most people hate but I like. bf then attack vitals is great. Especially against groups. The dot is underestimated a lot. The other chain is better against a pylon but I think attack vitals is great for added aoe dot against most stuff. 1
SomeGuy Posted yesterday at 06:55 AM Posted yesterday at 06:55 AM (edited) Best DB chain doesn't use the combo system. The Empower chain when you weave in a Snipe every second rotation is really good and a close second actually. So, you can do really well damage wise and use the combo system. Every really high ST chain still does a lot of AOE damage because of Sweeping Strikes.
