I've been trying to make a melee character for the last few weeks but she needs to inspire me. I made both a tank and brute spines/dark and while they were cool, I never went anywhere with it, probably because I'm not much of a farmer. So, please tell me if this would be reasonable or if I should look at something else.

 

I would like to be able to, sorta tank, and do decent damage. I only group, never farm, and so want to be able to run around without having to constantly rest. I can afford orange sets at 50 and will work up from there.

 

I see this character as activating death shroud and defenses and savage leaping into combat. I would like to keep cloak of fear up to limit getting hit back while using Rending Fury, Shred and Dark Obliteration to tear into masses or Darkest Night, Maiming and Vicious Slash to attack bosses. I'm not a huge fan of super speed, but will figure something out.

 

I am concerned that I have enough defense to have fun. I am also concerned that some people on the forums don't seem to like Savage Melee. I have considered dropping some of the powers below to take Provoke, Intimidate, Invoke Panic and Unrelenting from the Presence pool to maximize using fear but am afraid that might be a one trick pony. I'm leaving out slots/enh because I just want to hear what you think of the concept.

 

I am open to any reasonable change, and/or switching skill sets altogether, if I can keep my character concept.

I've been working one of these myself. What the Savage Naysayers aren't aware of is how well this plays with Dark Armor. The BU mechanic for Savage is giving you a huge end discount which is a blessing for end hungry DA.

I like savage myself, it gives extra pts of damage, the aforementioned end discount and a rech. bonus (I think).

The early cone, Shred, is about like Sands of Mu so a little movement and you get multiple targets. I can easily get 3 and sometimes 4 with it.

I think the larger (uses BU charge) pbaoe, Rending Flurry, will actually be a good proc haven cuz it's damage is small at first look. I presume it gets damage increase with the aoe increase.

The tier 9 is a low recharge TP/PBAOE which is always fun. That should help set up your cloak of fear too. And your stealth helps set up the charge... all sortsa synergy.

All of this will allow you to much more easily work on getting your D levels up as you don't have to really work as much on end discounts and the like. I'd still use your Theft of Essence +end in regen though.

I made one for you. So you have softcapped melee defense with cloak of fear running (even against +3s as they will resist about 33-40% of it). You also have perma hasten and pretty good resistance to all. 168% global recharge.

Yeah, so this is a 50 build for sure. I get the accolades and then I use ageless. I wish I had a better answer, but the only other thing to do is switch out pyre mastery for energy mastery like this:

Now you do get a lot more healing procs this way but you lose melt armor and fireball, but you gain oppressive gloom. Overall this is much more survivable because you have 3 passive 5% heal procs running which I think will end up being around 20 HP/s total (at 3.5 ppm, I think the heal is 3.5 or 3 ppm).

Now you do get a lot more healing procs this way but you lose melt armor and fireball, but you gain oppressive gloom. Overall this is much more survivable because you have 3 passive 5% heal procs running which I think will end up being around 20 HP/s total (at 3.5 ppm, I think the heal is 3.5 or 3 ppm).

Thank you I’ll check it out :D. Do you think it has anything to do with the fact that I used the build on a scrapper instead of a brute? Also the end is do-able if you arn’t using nonstop attacks (like in a fire farm) so the ageless trick should work fine.

No, the build was designed as a 50 build and so I didn't worry too much about endurance as you can always fix those with incarnates. The differences between brute and scrapper for this build would be small in terms of endurance usage, there are probably some different things you could do to make the slotting efficiency for a scrapper specifically better.

Use Agility core as musculature doesn't help brutes as much as stalkers and scrappers due to fury. Also use the ageless core destiny and all end problems should be solved.

They help, but not enough to solve all issues.

 

Edit: I should note that they help enough that you can actually notice the difference as you build stacks. Especially at lower levels I avoid using the spenders sometimes to conserve end.
