A place for artists to collaborate!

Got some linework you'd like to see in color? Want to try your hand at inking, flats or detailing?

Good with power FX or perhaps adding a nice background? Then this thread is for you!

This is the a place to experiment, practice and use teamwork to create new art.

Some thoughts from experience

-------------------------------------------------------

1. Keep it polite:

Kinda goes without saying but everyone is coming from different backgrounds and skill levels,

it's not about perfection, it's about working together and learning from each other.

2. Communication is key:

If you are unsure about anything, just ask. A quick post to announce what you are working on

is helpful (i.e. "hey I'm going to ink these lines") just in case multiple projects spring up

around the same piece or more than one person wants to try the same thing.

3. The goal is addition not subtraction:

Try to add something to the existing piece without taking too much away.

Some adjustment and tweaking should be fine but ground up

redraws or complete paint-overs are for another thread.

4. Credit where credit is due:

If you contributed something by all means add your symbol

or sig (of reasonable size) and if you're the one adding a background or

anything that needs to cover them please keep the other sig's intact (if there are

many they can be shrunk to make room). If you need help with this or anything else just ask. 🙂

Besides the above points, speaking for myself, I will go ahead and say people are free

to color the linework I post here but if you post the finished work on another site

somewhere else kindly credit me as the penciler or provide a link to here or DA.

Others may have different ideas, which is fine, again if you are not sure just ask!

Here are some examples of collaborations I have done with other artists in the past plus a few

guinea pigs for anyone who wants to try inking/flatting/coloring/tinkering with them.

Note: You can click through any of the images below until you

see the Magnify click again to see them in the largest size available.

This was a triple collab I did with DD and Europa777 in memory of Lady Judgement/Bobby Aquitania.

Europa did the sketch and inking, DD did the flats and I did final colors and punch up work.

DD also gets credit for the cute Chibi design which was a gift to me that I clipped

and turned into wrapping paper for the outside of the box she is holding.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was a Quadruple collab between myself DD Ransim and Henri-1.

Originally it was just a line drawing that I put up as a prize in one of my

forum contests. Goblin Queen won and I drew her hero Storm Dragon thusly.

spacer.png

...which got added to the old collab thread from live. IIRC DD came up with the

lightning bolt for the iris and flats, Henri-1 came up with the shoulder plate armor, Ransim

did the scale pattern and I did the initial sketch, final colors, punch up work and the background lightning.

This was the final result.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This one was a prize (I believe it was for a contest I held)

This time it was DD who did the pencil drawing, which was this...

spacer.png

I laid on the flats which resulted in this...

and CatiC did the final colors and punch up, which turned into this...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally this one saw two different concurrent collaborations happening.

The pencil drawing was a birthday gift I did for SupaDee of her eponymous hero.

spacer.png

Then DD saw it and wanted

to color it up which resulted in this...

spacer.png

Then SupaDee asked if she could

color it and this was the result of her work.

spacer.png

I think they both came out great and it was cool to see

my lines get colored by two different artists in two different styles.

As for stuffz to get the collabs started I have some quick and sketchy type stuff like this...

spacer.png

In case someone wants to try cleaning it up or digital inking to start.

Or I have some more clean line work I can post up

if someone wants to try flatting/coloring. Stuff more like this.

spacer.png

If someone else has line art they don't mind

people tinkering with by all means post them as well.

Hmm, don't have much, but these are free for people to mess with with minimal info for colors, they are lineart commissions or gifts I got forever ago.

This is Roxy Acetylene and DJ Pyrria for anyone from Virtue, Roxy has bright red hair, wears silver and red, DJ Pyrria is blonde, red top, black bottoms with blue accents.  IIRC the scene this was supposed to be had the other clothes in gold and black but whatever people want to try is cool.

More Roxy art, this is pencils, again silver and red is the color scheme, maybe black accents

This one of Kai has full shading so good for inking, coloring, shading, etc. Kai has a whole gallery at https://www.deviantart.com/eris-kai/favourites/1374094/kai-art for reference info

Got permission from DD to grab this from the Art Request thread and throw some flats on it.

I also tinted the line art on a separate layer that can easily be turned on and off.

It's open for anyone who wants to do final colors and punch up work on it.

Click the image to get the PSD file.

Not sure how solid the visor should be but I was loathe to cover the nice work DD did on

the face but anyone can try different opacities or FX and see what works for them.

I also let a little of the blue from her visor bleed over onto her cheeks but this

could easily be removed if it's not meant to have light shine through from above.

Thoughts?

Gonna drop this off as well. It's been the most colored of my works thus

far and I wouldn't mind at all if more want to give it a go.

You can see how other people's coloring of it came out in my post over here...

Kidding aside, woohoo that looks good!  I am sure EnnVee

(and Queen Bethari) will be thrilled with your stab... the art that is.

The negative silhouette bats are a nice touch too.

I'm not surprised. Would you believe it if I told you that the colored pencil version took me twice as long? 😆

You (or anyone else) have my total permission to punch any of these up, if you like.

Isn't that the way of it. I've had times where I spent hours working on a thing and then a last

minute quick sketch I throw in as an afterthought is what resonates the most.

I'll tell you a secret though, you still learn from those long hours, even if

it's just muscle memory so you still come out ahead just by doing.

Definitely do not add an f to the last word of that sentence...

I mean it now, don't even think about it.
