Current WM/WP level 50 with explanation

I want to thank Janyen in this thread who made me take action to level to 50 and develop my build.

https://forums.homecomingservers.com/index.php/topic,6569.0.html

While I am no expert in melee characters, I have applied what I learned with my other characters to my Scrapper build.

A few important points I want to make;

> This is a work in progress. With my other characters I make a build, play with it awhile, respec, play with it, respec again etc... until I think I have it perfect

> No Hasten. This is intentional. During my first play through I like to avoid using hasten to get a feel for my rotation & choices. I usually avoid hasten in my final build. In the case of this Scrapper build, I am leaning strongly (but not made a final decision yet) to incorporate Hasten in my next respec, "IF" I can remove one attack from my rotation (Crowd Control is not used in rotation but as a CC ability). If I can recapture the slots from Pulverize as an example, I would then be able to add to other regeneration, defense, resist abilities

> Resurgence, Strength of Will, Tactics (to a lesser extent) are powers I selected because I had to select something

>I strongly considered CrossPunch in this build for the Mag 3 Stun & KD (Better than Whirling Mace's Mag2 Disorient) however I do not have the Enhancement slots to make it worthwhile

>Incarnates are still undecided, with the build as shown, I have ZERO endurance issues, & health regenerates faster than most damage my scrapper takes. Its an impressive class

> Current Rotation is Clobber>Shatter>Jawbreaker>Pulverize occasionally Crowd Control.

As I just reached 50, today I decided to do the Mender Ramiel arc and fight the Honoree, Captain Holtz. They gave me real trouble on my brand new MM & Corruptor +0 difficulty. However knowing how powerful the scrapper was I only lowered it to +2 Down from my +4 (I play on +4 normally because I have tactics & focused accuracy which allow me to hit reliably). On +2 I jumped into the center of the bridge and tanked everything losing almost no HP & when I did regen'd just as fast. Crushing Honoree & Holtz, in record time.

I am having fun and while I am sure I will make changes after playing with this build a bit more.... I wanted to share where I am and what I have learned so far.

First of all, it would be really handy if you could add a datalink or a datachunk next time you post a build, so people don't have to manually input it into mids.

Anyway, after a brief look at it, I'd say it's a perfectly serviceable build. Not fully optimized, but decent enough to be able to get through anything the game has to offer. Here are some pointers on how to improve:

The optimal attack chains for WM are Clobber - Jawbreaker - Shatter for ST and Shatter - Crowd Control - Whirling Mace for AoE. Now I don't remember the exact recharge numbers you need to achieve gapless, but I'm certain you can't achieve them without hasten. Shatter is the only attack that is used in both, thus it's a pretty good place for Critical Strikes. If you want to focus on ST dps howerer, it's better to put a 5 pieces of Armageddon and a Fury of the Gladiator -res proc. Also, Pulverize is pretty much useless outside of leveling/exemplaring and is somewhat overslotted. You can easily remove 2 slots from it and use it as your Kinetic Combat mule.

Having both Focus Accuracy and Tactics is an overkill, you can easily drop one for Hasten. Also Resurgence and, to a lesser extent, SoW are pretty worthless, so you can get rid of them as well.

You don't need KB protection enhancement in SJ. Winter's Gift slow resistance is way more useful.

6 pieces of LotG in Weave is not worth it. You're much better off with a LotG +7.5% and 5 pieces of Red Fortune if you want to 6 slot it.

You can easily get to S/L softcap by using 2 pieces of Rectified Reticle in 2 of your +ToHit powers.

If you're using both LotG and Shiled Wall in a single power, it's better to get 3 piece of Shield Wall as the bonuses are slightly better. Same goes for Reactive Defenses. The difference is pretty marginal, but still.

A full set of Preventive medicine offers better bonuses than a set of Numina's in my opinion. Either way, you should have a PM  Chance for Absorb in your build.

For incarnate abilities Musculature is going to be your best choice for Alpha  if you can get enough recharge to run the optimal attack chain. Otherwise, you might need to go for Spiritual. For interface it's either Degenrative or Reactive, 75% debuff 25% dmg proc.

Great Feedback Constantine!

Thanks for taking the time to provide it!  I will study your suggested improvements carefully.

Why Spiritual over Agility? I was pondering Agility for its recharge & endurance reduction allowing me to potentially recapture 1 enhancement slots in stamina & quick recovery.

Hasten is a power I do not like to add until I have played the character at 50 for a bit. Agree SOW & Resurgence are both easy to replace, problem I have his too many worthless powers, have to take something, which is why Tactics was also taken, at least it has value.

As far as Whirling Mace (Mag 2 Stun) is concerned, I had originally planned to take CrossPunch (Mag 3 Stun +KD) instead, then decided I did not have 6 enhancement slots to make it worthwhile (with this 1st draft of my build).

As far as attack chain goes... What I have learned by playing is I can use Clobber-Jawbreaker-Shatter-Crowd Control (not using Pulverize at all). It is a 4 attack chain without Hasten. Crowd Control does the same damage as Pulverize just with a KD & AOE.

Thanks for the help with an attack chain. I'm currently levelling up a War Mace Brute, and was wondering what the optimal attack chain would be.

Well, the reason for Spiritual over Agility is pretty simple. You are already sitting at pretty much softcapped S/L/F/C, so the the defense boost it provides is useless. Also, you've said that endurance is never an issue, which means that the primary end mod boost of agility is also wasted, which leaves you with only the 33% recharge reduction bonus. Compared to spiritual's 45% recharge and 33% healing on top of it, the choice seems pretty obvious.

As far as attacks goes, I have to admit that I didn't even notice that you don't have Whirling Mace in you build. Now, I don't want to sound like the guy who tells others how to play their characters, but I strongly suggest you to reconsider it as you're severely gimping your AoE damage output. Also, for what it's worth, the power has by far my most favourite sound effect in the whole set, which makes it really satisfying to use.

As for not using Hasten initially to get the feel for the set, I personally think that it's a pretty bad move on your part, as you're just picking up habits of using bad attack chains. Hasten is an important tool in most good builds and purposely avoiding it is a big mistake. Once again, I'm not trying to tell you how to play your character, because at the end of the day, if you're having fun with it, it's all that really matters. I do, however, feel obliged to point out all of your decisions that I think are suboptimal.

I would not be asking questions..... if I did not want honest answers... As I said in my OP kinda new to melee.

As to Agility vs Spiritual My thought process was if I get the Endurance reduction from agility, I could then remove a End Mod IO from Stamina & Quick Recovery, additionally thought the bonus on Defense would help if I got hit with any -Def debuffs, keeping my defense higher which would be better than additional healing.  Not at all saying I know what I am talking about... hehe

Whirling Mace vs Cross Punch (Mag 3 Stun +KD +More Damage) from fighting pool... why would anyone take Whirling Mace (mag 2 stun)?

As to not taking Hasten initially its just something I do ... I expect to respec soon and spec in to Hasten, however it helps me better understand my characters abilities & limitations to try him both ways... that's just me.... not saying it works for anyone else.

And once again greatly appreciate your feedback

Well, Agility is certainly great if you need squeeze out those last couple of percent of Defense to hit your softcaps as well as get more recharge/endmod to run the best attack chains. It's exactly what I opted for on my WM/Bio as I was really slot starved on it. But if your build can achieve it's goals without it, you should pick something else. Musculature is generally the best choice as it not only increases your own DPS, but also the DPS of your Judgement nuke and Lore pets, which can be really significant in the late game.

Whirling Mace is your bread and butter AoE attack. It deals about 140 damage when fully enhanced to a maximum number of 10 targets around you. So if you're hitting all 10 enemies, you're looking at dealing at least 1400 damage per cast, more if you have any external damage buffs. The stun component on it is just an added bonus, which you should never care about too much. You're not playing melee DPS class for it's debuff/control potential, leave those tasks to the controllers on your team. Your goal is to kill as many things as fast as your can.

I am slot starved as well.... To get a 6 slot Whirling Mace or Cross Punch (my currently preferred alternative) I would need to get those slots from somewhere. 2 from Pulverize is easy the next 3 not so clear cut, especially if I want to grab Hasten & 3 slot it as well with Recharge.

I need to figure out which powers besides pulverize is over slotted... going back to agility if I dropped kismet entirely recapturing all the Pulverize slots, using agility to make up the difference in defense, along with its endurance benefits, I have recaptured 5 slots pulverize 1 quick recovery 1 stamina.  Again just thinking out loud.

For the rest of the incarnates leaning toward

Judgement- Void

Destiny- Rebirth?

Interface-Reactive or Degenerative

Lore-Cimerorans (a rare KB) or War Works (no KB) melee

Support- Assault (strike again) or Melee

What would be additionally helpful, is if anyone has views on which of my abilities are over or under Slotted, or as Constantine has pointed out slotted incorrectly.  The advice I have been given so far has been invaluable to me thank you all.... looking forward to move advice, comments etc...

You should push clobber back to 8. Flip it with build up. If you ever do exemplar down you want that early not at 16.

Sub assault for tactics. With one slot tactics isn't doing much. One endredux in assault is perfect.

You're overenhancing dmg/rech on the 6-slot scrapper set powers (and maybe acc/dam on avalanche too, but you need the 6-set bonus def there...). Drop the dmg/rech piece (acc/dam in avalanche) and slot in a FF:+recharge proc, -res proc, or damage proc as appropriate. May require you to shuffle sets around some to do that efficiently.

I have no idea how your endurance per second use is 2.42. What are you running in those slots? On a WM/SD I run, if I take Focused Accuracy (I don't; have 6-slot tactics though) I can get up to 2.0 eps use. Without Focused, with maneuvers, assault, and tactics I show 1.84 eps used. It feels like you're way overbuilding for endurance. My planned recovery is 3.21/s with that 1.84/s use and I expect that should be fine (my attacks generally hover around 1.5 eps burn if they're constantly on recharge, but there's always repositioning, next group of mobs, etc).

Which additional enhancement -Res Proc, Recharge Proc, Damage Proc are you suggesting? as I am not as familiar with Melee.  Thanks

As for my endurance what I am running is in my posted build. I also have 4 endurance procs shown.

TWO of my many pet peeves are; Running out of Endurance, Missing with my attacks. So I always like to make sure I mitigate the chances of either when fighting +3/4 content. This drives me to have high accuracy, +to hit buff's & Endurance.

Thanks for the suggestion on Buildup for Clobber at 8!

You've got plenty of slots you can easily cut. Gladiator's armor can be put into SoW. Weave doesn't really need to be 6 slotted.  Also, you can get rid of some slots in Health, Fast Healing and especially Physical Perfection. The extra regen from those might sound like a good deal on paper, but in reality the boost is pretty negligible when you're sitting at around 1000% already with full RttC. I usually use them solely for +Recovery/Regen procs on my WP chars.

Hasten doesn't need 3 slots as you can get it to ED capped recharge with 2 level 50 IOs and 7 or 8 enhancement boosters.

For incarnates:

Judgement -  whichever you like the most. None of them are particularly good or bad. Well, maybe cone ones aren't that great. I just pick whatever fits thematically.

Destiny - WP doesn't really need any of them to perform well. Personally I have all at t3 on my StJ/WP and WM/Bio and swap them around based on what my team currently needs.

Interface - either is fine. I tend to pick degenerative more often simply because reactive is way more widespread and the debuff only stacks up to 5 times.

Lore - both Cimerorans and Warworks got nerfed in i24 I believe, so I'm not sure how well they perform these days. I generally pick longbow for the -regen on Boss.

Hybrid - You don't need any more survivability so Assault Core is the best.

Thanks for the suggestion on Buildup for Clobber at 8!

It takes maybe 30 seconds to look through what you can slot in powers for +recharge/-res procs. You can figure that out yourself with the builder.

FA is mostly boosting your acc, not your to-hit, and to-hit is really what you need more of most likely, not acc. You can get +10% to-hit out of FA, but you and your team get +50% out of a well enhanced tactics. Plus if you can find the slots, +2.5% def to all positions, and chance for build-up for you (6-slot Guassian's).

Your end use doesn't vary vs the content you play, other than if you're fighting end draining mobs. Similar to the 2-slot hasten thing, you can probably 2-slot with end mod and enhancment boosters at least one of your two end recovery powers.

Since you have "free picks" that are poorly enhanced, use one to get conserve power with a single recharge IO in it. That's better because its a huge discount when-needed rather than minor (usually unused -- thus worthless) gains all the time, and will free up slots elsewhere to do other things.

Here's a very different take. Substantially stronger defense, lower resistance. Its actually over softcap to types (minus psi) for foes in RTTC, because of the enhanced -tohit on the enemy. On paper this is lower regeneration, but that's on substantially more HP so its probably overall a wash or a win for this build. End use is under control. I left less "safety net" there but not a ton less.

I left FA. I don't think its needed. I'd swap in conserve power. I'd probably also flip physical perfection for hasten and steal the -res debuff slot out of LBE for 2 rech in hasten. With that and one of the FF:+rech procs active you're at perma-hasten. I don't know if you can stack the FF:+rech. If not, it might be worth slotting something else in jawbreaker/crowd control (like a damage proc). Actually its probably worth losing the acc/kb IO for a damage proc in jawbreaker as it is.

Here's some of those changes and tweaks around how I slotted some of the resist powers
