Fire/Storm Returns

Zep

Recommended Posts

I am so looking forward to this.

I played Zep to 50 and beyond - please let me know if you have questions or suggestions.

Fire/Kin and Fire/Rad have good stuff but fire storm is the king of control and damage.

My first 2 lvl 50 characters were a Ice/Storm then a Fire/Storm.  Such a fun powerset.  Storm is not a well known/used powerset, but can be deadly fun in the right hands.  Ice/Storm was a more safe controlled chaos, Fire/Storm was a fun wild (mostly) controlled chaos. I am going Fire/Rad this time, but I do miss my stormers.

There is nothing like when on a 8 man team that is in middle of a fight and another large mob gets aggroed or ambushed the team and you shout "I got this" and turn on the hurricane and herd the mob into a corner while throwing lightning storms and bonfires while the team finishes the other mobs.

Going to make another /storm contoller just not sure of the primary yet.

Low level is not a great time. You suck for End, and do terrible damage.

Focus on Freezing rain and Char. Hold the bosses and drop FR to give everyone a 30% damage buff as well as a ton of mitigation. Smoke on mobs to stop accidental agro from team members and Snow Storm on minions at the back of the group. This will pretty much eat all your End. Fire cages & hot feet are just agro magnets and don't do appreciable damage until you reach later levels.

Hurricane combined with Fire cages is a *huge* amount of fun. The immob reduces the flying KB to "pushing" them around which allows for full on herdicaning at later levels. It takes practise though and you need immob duration in FC to stay mobile while you're at it. On low level teams that get overwhelmed you can save a wipe by hurricaning and jumping into the fray. Don't do it if the team is ploughing though. It's also great on AVs as it debuffs their acc and they are resistant to the KB. Key pre-30 poewrs for me would be char, freezing rain and hurricane. Fire cages slotted for end redux & acc.

The opening of patron pools at 35 is a godsend. I picked up Fireball immediately followed by Fireblast. Damage went up through the roof (containment FTW) but so did End use. Only now, at 50, with a rare cardiac alpha can I comfortably run at full power. And that's with the two Recovery uniques and quite a few 2.5% recovery bonusses.

With Thunderclap & Flashfires I have a full on Diso-Queen (©TMS) build and Cinders is just gravy. AVs get all melty when you FR them and drop tornado and lightning storm and imps and hurricane their acc. 50 is the place to be for Fire/Storm.

Only take O2 boost if you want  to join "need a healer" teams for the giggles. I am far too busy destroying stuff to be healing. :)

Fire/Storm has a ton of viable builds.

All controllers bloom late.... Fire/Store is a 32 year old virgin, on a double dose of viagra at his first orgy.

Up till 32 think blue and balls.

After 32 things start to get better really fast.

For me...

Pre Imps, Slot char for Acc and recharge. Cycle though targets fast holding them -- bosses will hold with 2 hits.

Ring of fire is your single target damage dealer. Slot Acc Damage and maybe a little recharge. Use Brawl, Sands Of Mu and whatever else you can get your greedy little hands on to back it up.

Flashfire - Fire cages is a poor mans ranges mass hold. Use it, love it.

Put at least 1 end reducer, maybe 2 into fire cages - even with SO's it is expensive.

Hotfeet is awesome -- until you have SO's and really good End generation your going to be turning it off/on a lot. Till 32 use at least 3 end reducers before damage.

Storm is a super late bloomer.

Freezing rain is your bread and butter power. Recharge and whatever els you want - this is a good one to 6 slot.

Flashfire + Thunderclap will disorient bosses so long as they both hit. This is an uber high level combo.

With hasten and some good slotting you can have 2+ tornadoes and 2+ lightning storms up. Put a bonfire at your feet and very few things can get close to you. Add Imps and everything being debuffed by freezing rain and you can walk though any normal content.

IMO I add leadership so my pets (including teammate pets) do even more damage.

Fire/Storm is the only class I personally have used that can run out of power on speed boost. It is all about endurance... use IO's and whatever you can get to increase end generation and decrease end costs. With the right Alpha Slot blasters follow you around asking you to PL them because you chew though mobs faster.

  • 2 weeks later

I loved playing Fire Storm, I made one again!

Starting out take Char and don't take the first power Ring of Fire.

Don't take O2 Burst, Smoke (although it has it's uses)

I think I slotted mostly for damage and recharge later.

Gale can help get guys off you but don't bother to add slots to it.

Freezing Rain is great.  Focus on getting to 32 to get your Imps!

After that it's glorious!

I have found ppl either really like Gale or think it totally blows. :)

After lvl 5 or 6 I rarely use it -- though blowing mobs off roof tops has it's joys.

Take O2 Boost for the 60s Sleep and Stun prot so the team healer can do their job, the +PER so the Tank can see what they're fighting, and END Drain Resistance so the Sappers and Super Stunners and the like don't drive everyone mad.  The *heal* is the side effect.  Take it even if you're just going to put one EndRdx in it.
