  1. AE should be filled with hundreds of story arcs at all levels so players can create a new character and level it to 50 with content they have never played before.

So this is starting at levels 1-10.  Make an AE story focused mission arc.  Put SFMA in the name.

Use maps you don't normally see at levels 1-10.  Use enemies for levels 1-10, but try making hero arcs with Gold or Red side villains or custom villains.

I will play every new AE SFMA posted here, and my sub-challenge is for others to also play all of them and post their comments here.

I think they largely reflect the dynamics of the game as it was when Going Rogue and the Praetorian arcs were being developed.

A LOT of players were mostly playing solo and teaming was quite rare other than for Strike Forces and Trials etc. But despite that the lore of CoH is one of its core strengths and the story has always been key in this game. We can argue about whether we think the content of stories is up to snuff some of the time but that's not relevant here. What FW and NW do give you is an amazing story and much of those arcs weave the Praetorian and Primal worlds together.  So making someone go meet new characters is part of that (and has been since launch.)

It might be considered "lazy" or "throwaway" but I would disagree. I think those zones are rich in content and to a degree, talkies are part of telling and reinforcing the story.

    I agree.

In WoW and Guild Wars 2 you do missions for people in the world.  You learn about each area as you talk to them and do missions.  There is a story but it also makes the world important.

First Ward and Night Ward are one of the few zones where they places have a story and feel like a place (Croatoa and Striga are others).

Steel Canyon is just a big place where you can run to doors for missions.  I wish it had story arcs about the different neighborhoods and buildings there.

  3. my nomination is for LadyGrams who runs teams through Hollows and other low level arcs day in and day out.

They make a new character every few days it seems and start over.

Not a lot of people make teams and they do it all the time.

Edit: I posted this, went in game and the first comment in LFG was Lady Grams starting a Posi 1

  4. Create a new character.  Select the recommended tutorial for hero or villain.

Do not use the START agent to get additional powers, buffs, xp buffs, etc.  Just use what you get with your character.

    Play solo.

Play the tutorial.  Then play the starter set of arcs set for new players (not the old contacts).

How long does it take you to get through the tutorial and finish the set of arcs?

    How hard was it?

    How fun was it?

  5. When you go to make a new character or are using the costume creator for fun (my daughter does that and never plays the actual game) do you have a specific concept or character in mind and make that - or do you explore what can be made and then find something you like?

Bonus question - do you use the random costume generator and how do you use it?

But in a pinch, I can go from my melee-centric tanky Night Widow into my assault-centric control/support Fortunata. Join a team, see what is needed, and switch to my build of choice, as opposed to switching to another character.

That seems really useful.  I have used builds to be able to switch a tanker from more defense to more damage, but as you say it isn't a big change in role.

Okay.  I thought about it.  I could make a floating skull that was a Fortunata.  at a 100o years old, as a skull, gender sort of ceases to matter.

So, I open up MiDs and looked at Fortunata.  And, without spending 40 hours 50ing and running this thing it looks to suffer the same issues as Crab.  In effect, I could make my genderless skull a Mind/Psi Dom and run circles around the Fortunata.  Because VEATs and HEATs are shot in the foot from the starting line.

The important thing is you tried and quit.  Does that make my challenge a PUG?

I don't know, getting a character to level 24 in a week seems like you're either not really getting a feel for the character or kind of unreasonable.

When I have played VEATS I found that I did not get a feel for the character until I hit 24 and respeced.

It's my one major complaint about them.  They change a lot after the respec which makes learning them as you level much less useful, although not useless.

Probably politically incorrect of me but I think of widows as female.  They are all female in the game. I never run female toons. So, this week I bow out of the challenge.

I refuse to believe that someone as creative as you is blocked by this.

I bet you can come up with 10 reasons to have a male widow even if they normally are all female.

The Dune series is based on having a male with the powers normally only women get.  If Herbert can figure out an excuse you certainly can.
