    I would probably not pursue +DEF on Radiation.  You have no defense debuff resistance, so any value you get from defense will be quickly lost against many enemy groups - and between resistance, heal, and absorb, I cant imagine needing it.

     

    Forgive me that I am doing this on my phone - so I cannot open the build and give better thought out advice.

    I squeezed in some more recharge. Although it didn't seem like i needed much more - my rotation is smooth and easy. 

     

    I'm not pursuing defense by any means. It just happened to work out that way with set bonuses and a LOTG + Rechange in Defensive Sweep. The only +def power I would have active to achive this is Weave and that's only if I really need to I guess.

  4. A conflict has presented itself. I love my Beam/Dev. However, I find that I rarely need to use Time Bomb, Trip Mine, Gun Drone, well basically Devices...don't get me wrong I can scoot in, plant a mine or two, call the drone but by that time everything is dead.

     

    For concept purposes stealth is important sooooo I was looking at /Ninja. It seems appetizing. I get stealth + other stealth like abilities Smoke Flash. In both the Dev and Ninja builds I get the same defensive numbers and a slight edge in damage going to /Nin. The only thing I found about /nin was that it sucks so bad no one takes it and thats why I cant find anything on it...my /Nin is in its early 40's and seems fine, the weird shooting from the shins bug aside. He's mostly a ranged toon but when something gets too close, well, ninja away. 

     

    Im looking for detail on /Ninja. What power to take and why. What powers to skip and why. Thoughts on Beam/Dev vs. Beam/Nin...

    I changed the build cause i forgot the field operative mechanic.

     

    It's a +5 build, but all you have to do to reach the important "cap" is to "+5" Hasten and Luck of the gambler IO till you reach a real "in fight" range def.

    This is a cool build that I made immediately. I ran a few BAFs with it, some +4x8 regular team content and solo +4x8 AE S/L ComicCon Farm. In BAF I think this build really shines, particularly during the prisoner escape segment. However, during the AV fights if I ever wanted to jump in and lay down a TM or TB or even throw some Caltrops down, it was essentially a death wish.

     

    The team content stuff went ok. What I noticed here more than anything is this build is awesome about 50% of the time. AB - Aim - BF - TB/TM - Overcharge and theres nothing left really. 

     

    AE went 1 of 2 ways. Pop all cool downs, kill most of a group, fight the leftover LT, Bosses, EB's, wait for cool downs, rinse and repeat. Or, immediately go after the next group without ALL CD's and die immediately. Started at +4, had to drop to +1 or +2. I forget where I left it. 

     

    I don't think just having Ranged Defense will cut it unless it's a hover Blaster build. When I get to my PC I'll post up the new version of my build. It's more expensive than my original and I took a lot of your slotting. I feel like it plays a lot more consistent, is effective in putting down TM's and TB with the amount of defense available and is only slightly less fun to play than your build (I do miss Bonfire and AB). I will likely keep your build as a "back-up" incase I get bored or just want a different style of play.

    About your 1 sloted Hasten, i dont think your FF recharge on Charged shot is enough, FF recharge being 2 proc per minute.

     

    That being said, i prefer Tactical arrow over Devices and his mines/bombs for Beam rifle being full range.

    My concept is to be a ranged Blaster with defensive tools like Trip Mine, Caltrops and Gun Drone when needed. I do use Gun Drone and Caltrops offensively as well. As I grow into him more I may find myself running in, dropping TM and Caltrops and my build will change to fit that.

     

    You're right about FF, its not giving me the recharge I need - tested it last night. I'll have to rework that. 

     

    I understand TA fits the bill better here but I like the devices power set much better.

  10. So my Beam/Dev Blaster (Callisign) is level 42 now. I took yalls advice and just choose the skills that keep him at range. Loving the play and ascetics. With that said I haven't found a build for BR/Dev so if anyone has one or can put one together...

    Just going to point out a trivial change to think about.  The Numina's +recovery/+regen will only fire off when you use HO.  Consider swapping around the sets used in HO and HA ... like I said trivial especially if you never solo or always have a pet to HO.

    Thats interesting I didn't know that. I was under the impression if it was equipped it...just worked. Thanks for the heads up. 

     

    Edit: Is that also true of the Absorb Proc in HA?

  14. Thank you all for the input. Here is the build I came up with after reviewing what you guys wrote, the build that @Linea shared and the original inspiration from @Auroxis. This is a pure team build taht I'll be running Incarnate Trials on and other end game content. I've chosen not to use CM although I have an alternate build that does include it if I find myself needing it regularly. With Power Boost ( I underestimated this power) I have nearly soft capped melee and aoe def and soft capped ranged. It's rocking Capped S/L res and 18s recharge on Fortitude without FF proc. I just ran a speed ITF with 10ish enhancements slotted - kept everyone alive, juiced up in fort and ab and had a blast doing so. Let me know what you guys think.

    While I certainly used the bejeezus out of it while leveling, I was under the impression that at the end game this power is 100% not needed. If that's not the case I will go back and fix up the build. Anything else?

    It is kind of the idea tho. I can probably count on both hands the amount of times I have to heal per instance. 

  17. As I get deeper into Homecoming I realize more and more that a purebred healer power set like Empathy is not needed. 

     

    Alpha strike - if it hits defense based tanks. Or if hits resistance based tanks hard enough. If they don't have a set or incarnate heal, or inspirations I might get to heal.

     

    Squishes - smart play tends to trump defense and resistance. Sometimes you have it all, I might get to heal. If their not an inspiration glutton. So what does the "modern" Empathy Defender do? Well for me, everything. 

     

    This build allows the Empathy/Sonic Defender to check a lot of boxes. He can heal, buff, reduce resistance, control mitigate, damage. He is 6 seconds off of perma hasten without FF or Cross Punch. With FF alone -12 seconds. .05% from S/L and defenses that should be easily capped in any team environment. It's fun and non-stop game play whether you are keeping Fortitude up, mitigating damage with Shockwave or nuking.

  18. I re-imagined @Auroxis original build. Full disclosure I am new to doing this and this is my first defender build. Some things are in weird places, for some reason Mids doesn't allow anywhere placement of enhancement slots. If you know a fix for that I would be delighted if you shared it.   19. I haven't played the game much outside of testing these last few days. I was respecing back and forth between Mu and EM. I love Mu, I love it's AOE, DoTs and it fits the concept of my character. However, it is crazy endurance hungry. So I tried a regen/recovery build with EM. It turned out to be a smidge more tanky, had no end issues but very bleh damage. So I went back to the drawing board with Mu and here is what I've come up with:

    This right here makes my BR/Therm Def boring for 99% of the content. Is there a thread addressing the ease of the content and the lack of needing team diversity or even in some cases a team...? 

  21. I have 3 "pocket" Defenders for my SS/SD Brute.

     

    Therm/BR fills my resistance holes, you can auto cast a single target or group heal and I alt tab to Forge and apply res buffs. Same concept with my Emp/Son minus the resistance but you get nice +reg and +rec. The last one I use is a Son/DP. This is the one I usually run when a team or TF is short. She is very passive - slap DF on the tank, have DR on and alt tab to throw your res buff on every few minutes. This works particularly well with defense based tanks - my SS/SD is essentially indestructible at this point and hits like a freight train.

    Is there a reason why you can't just skip the melee powers in Devices and just go all in on this ranged-only concept?  I think you'd find that if you started to pair other secondaries this is going to be the same question.  With Tactical Arrow you could skip utility powers just for the sake of layering defense bonuses.  The end result is identical though in both cases.  You're skipping powers in order for you to fulfill a concept.  

    No. I can take a look at building out with just the range friendly abilities from Dev. Now that were talking about it that way it does seem to be a secondary that favors close range...in the end it all has to make sense and accomplish what the goal is.
