  1. I think the first two issues were just me being overly cautious and unfamiliar with Wine and Lutris. The Paragonchat one is odd and could stump a new user of COH but in a fix they could just click on the appropriate COH install. Your tutorial is great. The only reason I used another is you are using a later build and other sites offered easy copy options for the kernel I'm using. I think a video would be a great idea and you could link to the WineHQ and Lutris sites (they have info for other distributions too) and possibly the site I used. I didn't use an installer from Lutris (https://lutris.net/games/city-of-heroes/) but noticed the Paragonchat issue mentioned: There was a patch today and Tequila installed it properly. I haven't tried going to the beta server but remember some issues with "manifest.cohhc.gg/testing.xml" back when using Windows. I stuck to the old beta manifest then. I did try "Alt-Enter" to change resolution and then resized my window but changed back to full screen and had to reposition all of my game windows. lol. One benefit of Windowed mode was I could check things in the wiki if needed.
  2. Thanks for your post it helped a lot. I read your post and the info at WineHQ and Lutris but followed the steps in another post because it was more directed at Linux Mint 19.3 (which I use) and there seemed to be another step involved. https://computingforgeeks.com/how-to-install-wine-on-ubuntu-linux-mint-desktop/ i only had a few minor issues: -I had never used Lutris before so it took a bit to find the right setting in the left panel- something about how it sees Wine. Once i had that figured out Tequila began working. -Since I had all the Paragonchat files I planned to use the same folder but Tequila didn't like that so did a clean install. -As Tequila finished up it complained that Paragonchat.exe was missing. i just copied the file from my other folder and Tequila finished the install. (I have passed this point on in another forum post). So I am running an Intel i5-64, Nvidia Geforce 750ti, 8g ram, Linux Mint 19.3. i used Wine 5 stable and the latest Lutris. I load from Lutris and it starts a bit slow then Tequila tells me it is patched. Once the launcher is up the game loads fast and is as smooth and fun as when I played on Windows 7 a few weeks ago. It's good to be home!
  3. I was already using Paragonchat when Homecoming/Score went public so i had no problems with getting COH to run from Tequila. Recently I switched to Linux and got COH working in Wine. Although I had copied my Windows folder I ended up reinstalling the whole game due to Tequila getting confused over folders. Tequila downloaded the files and verified them and then complained that Paragonchat.exe was missing and would not complete the install. Luckily I had my original install so I just copied the exe to the new folder and Tequila launched COH. Later on I did a search and saw comments about double-clicking the Homecoming button to bypass this problem but that seems a cop out. I realize that Tequila is used by several programs and it may take time to find an alternative or update the program. In the meantime it would be easier if the Paragonchat.exe is included in the files downloaded for the game.
  4. Before the game shut down I had some of my main characters almost totally tricked out in Enhancement Sets. It was fun to study the sets, collect them, and test out the bonuses. This game-within-a-game was both time consuming and expensive so I limited it to a few builds. Most of my characters practiced "frankenslotting" - ie mixing enhancements from various sets depending on what they needed.
  5. The other day one of my toons found a low level Blessing Of The Zephyr enhancement and converted it to the kb enhancement of the set. But he found he couldn't use it because his only travel power is Ninja Run and UT doesn't go into Sprint. I often wondered why the devs had made this decision but a forum post about Prestige Sprints got me thinking it was easier to keep UT sets out of all Sprints rather than change basic Sprint. Having kb protection in all those Prestige Sprints may have seemed OP. I think the Hc devs should relook at this issue. UT enhancements fit in all slot-able travel powers. Two travel power enhancement sets (Leaping and Running) can be used in Sprint. I propose that the Sprint power be modified to allow UT sets. This would allow greater flexibility in character builds. Blessing Of The Zephyr enhancements {or just the set's knockback enhancement} could be given the "unique" qualifier like those in Winter's Gift thus limiting the number that can be slotted.
  6. The Prestige Sprints are probably the reason the devs didn't allow UT into regular Sprint. They may have thought Blessing of The Zephyr would be abused.
  7. I was looking forward to the Force of Will power pool and wondered how it would compare to Sorcery. I have used most of the powers from Sorcery on a number of toons and find the powers fit over all. Spirit Ward - I haven't used this yet but plan to take it on toons with pets. Mystic Flight is a good travel power and the teleport is useful in some situations. Arcane Bolt's animation is a bit long but I have been able to work it into my attack chain quite well. Enflame adds a nice boost of DOT and helps my Dom defeat immobilized and held enemies faster. Rune of Protection gives some good protection for characters without armor. I tested all of the Force of Will powers on the test server and have a lowbie Blaster using the pool on live. Weaken Resolve - works fine. Project Will - seems really slow. It would be nice if the animation was shortened - even at the expense of damage. Mighty Leap - is fine as a pure Superjump clone but Takeoff feels out of place and clunky. Wall of Force - I haven't tried this on my lowbie yet but on test it seemed okay. Unleash Potential - its a nice power but it would be nice if it was available when the patch notes say it is. My character on live is level 14 and has two FOW powers but couldn't take Unleash Potential. On test I found it was offered at level 20. The patch notes and in game notes don't mention this requirement. It would be nice if they did.
  8. I have tested this a few times and found it useful and easy to use. It would be nice if the popmenu was persistent and didn't disappear after completing an option. Leveling and gaining influence are okay but losing the popmenu after selecting one type of enhancement makes filling your slots very time consuming especially at higher levels. I haven't tried setting up a macro for the popmenu yet. I noticed that the IOs it offers start at 25 while the level options are IIRC every ten levels. I wanted to test a level 20 toon but couldn't add IOs so used DOs/SOs instead - no problem there but I had to level to 30 to get a stealth IO. I chose level 20 because around that level you can reasonably test a whole power pool (for example) without gimping your primary/secondary powersets. Having the IO selection begin at 20 would be nice.
  9. Even those of us with Discord don't want to sign in there daily to check for maintenance notices. I usually check the maintenance forum topic and the server status before I log in. I played for a few hours on test this morning and signed out. Later on i check maintenance and nothing is listed, I check server status and all show okay. I log in and servers are down. In the forums I see Status is changed but still nothing in maintenance section. At least the patch notes were updated. It is easier and more convenient for the general user if maintenance notices are posted in the forums.
  10. I find the zone event pop up notices (like the one in Kings Row for Paladin) annoying because they cannot be dismissed and they take up so much space. Everyone - even those not interested in the event - have to live with a big blocky popup than interferes with hunt missions, etc. If possible it would be nice for the devs to change these to a small circular "zone event" that pops up. blinks for a moment to get our attention but then disappears or can be dismissed by the player.
  11. Thanks. I should have mentioned I was using Windows 7. I solved the issue yesterday after rereading the v2 installation/troubleshooting guide. When the issue began I had suspected my AV but a few test adjustments didn't help anything so I tried other approaches. The "v2" post got me thinking about rechecking my AV - which had a drastic UI change in a recent upgrade around the time the Tequila problem began. I began by pausing my AV real-time scanning and running the launcher and game. Both started instantly. I checked online to find out how to set Tequila.exe and Homecoming.exe as exceptions in my AV. Did that and things work fine. I never had to set a game as an exception before so this was unexpected. But now I can click and play without the fuss. :)
  12. I have had an annoying issue since the last update or so. Tequila loaded fast and loaded COH fast even after the change to "Homecoming" but something made Tequila slow down to the point it takes at least 30-60 seconds for the launcher to load and when I click on play the cursor gives the revolving working animation, the launcher shows "Not Responding" and about 30 seconds later the game starts and I can play normally. Other than virusscan updates and the latest windows update nothing was added to the computer I tried verifying and deleting the manifests but that didn't work. I haven't tried deleting "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tequila" since I am cautious playing around in the registry. FYI. To save time I installed to my Paragonchat folder and have had no problems playing until this issue popped up. I still have score.exe, cityofheroes.exe, homecoming.exe, scorebeta.exe, and paragonchat.exe in the main folder - along with tequila.exe of course. I used paragonchat.exe to pop in to pchat to see if it was also effected since it is listed in Tequila and it was slow to load but pchat loaded fast. So should I try deleting the reg key and if so will this reinstall any files? Thanks.
  13. This seems to be a server error and not your firewall or Tequila. It's happened to lots of people. Just try again later.
  14. Thanks. Just joined Discord. The benefit of forum notifications though is that we don't have to sign in anything to see the notice.
  15. There are so many but I will mention hitting level 40. Before they evened out experience gain in later issues certain points were tough to pass playing solo. For me it was between level 35 and 40. It was a slow time and friends were busy and all the PUGS seemed to be low level sewer farms. Usually this wouldn't bother me but I had "used up" all of my available contacts and was only lv 38 so couldn't do missions for the new ones. I set myself to doing radio missions in Brickstown and must have done 3 safeguards before I hit 40. I had fun learning the zone's nooks and crannies as some of the instance doors are in very weird places. Other memories: - dying on my way to the tailor to change my ugly costume. - getting stuck on buildings or war walls waiting for my jump pack to recharge. - landing my jump pack in a mess of ghosts in Talos and getting sent to hospital and later landing on Kraken in Perez park and surviving. - clearing all debt by street cleaning mobs - this "penance" kept me focused on survival and not getting debt in the first place. It worked - when I didn't attack groups of purples.lol. -getting ambushed by a warwolf INSIDE the train station. I was calling a contact and - as usual - I got a Council ambush. The police bots didn't get them all. Players arriving on the train were surprised.:)
  16. I asked a question about vidiotmaps in this forum section and someone else helped me. I noticed other general questions that were getting lost in the reports of mapserves and db errors and cries for help with stuck characters. I suggest the GMs rename this subforum "Bug Reports" or some such and make a "Players Helping Players" section for less immediate support/general questions.
  17. I just checked to see whether the servers were up and what the queue was like. Indomitable and Everlasting were offline. Excelsior and Torchbearer showed as online but with heavy load. I tried loading into Torchbearer but got the "unable to connect" error so I checked Excelsior. Queue on Excelsior was only 40 and I got in fast enough then created my first character on that server. I got booted to login when i tried to enter the villain tutorial. I made it to character select fast and my newly made character was listed as 7058 days offline and "InvalidPlayerInfo". The zone "Breakout" was shown at the bottom. People will keep trying to log into the corrupted servers if they remain online - but the team must have a reason to keep them up. --- Kudos to the GMs, etc. I had to recollect some badges after the rollback on Torchbearer earlier but I played long enough to finish a storyarc i had been working on.
  18. Before Bree server was wiped I remember feeling elated and that I had come home. Relearning old powersets was fun and got me thinking about all the stuff I didn't get to do before shut down. I was grateful for the chance to play COH again. Now the feeling is more mixed. I appreciate what the volunteers are doing and trying to be patient but sometimes its hard. I feel like the kid in the candy store trying to get a treat that is just out of reach. I just want to play.
  19. Thanks!!! COH was my first MMO and it got me playing with old friends and introduced me to many new ones. I was involved with several supergroups and villaingroups - mostly on Champion server. Sometimes I would take short breaks from the game but i kept coming back and played all my major characters on the days leading up to Sunset Day. When the game shut down I was on my first character I created - who was also my first 50. It's good to be back but ... in a way I never left Paragon City. :)
  20. Thanks. Now I can find the badges and feed my badge-aholics. :) For Others: Offhand I can't remember the link to get Vidiotmaps but I downloaded it, ran the exe, and unzipped to desktop. Then copied the data folder to pchat (as mentioned above). To get it to work for the game I copied it to the same folder Tequila.exe is in. If you forget the location right click on the desktop icon and check properties. Cheers.
  21. I appreciate the work going on by volunteers to bring us our game back. I am having fun playing and although the queue is annoying I noticed the stability on Torchbearer last night. It took 3 hours to get into the game - I was #1450 and at 4pm PST . I did chores and watched videos and got into the game at around 7:30 pm and the game was stable. Servers were reset for RAM about 10:30 but I was back in game after around 5 minutes and played until midnight. Today I queued at 12:30pm and noticed that the queue size dropped as my position dropped so I thought that the servers may be down. I checked these forums but there was NO information. As my queue time dropped below 50 I checked the forums and saw posts about new servers and trouble getting in the game. Nothing from GMs. I finally made it to 1 of 430 and then got the "no message from server " popup and left the game. We need a GM only topic for Maintenance/Server Status to keep us informed. We had a useful one before everything died last week. Please consider bringing it back.
  22. I'm having fun getting back into COH. Thanks to the crew that made it possible!! One addon I found useful was vidiotmaps for help collecting badges. I have it in: AppData\Roaming\ParagonChat\Client\Data and it works for paragon chat but not Score. Any idea where I should it copy to to get it to show up/work in the game?
