  1. Love my dark/dark 😉 One question for Sir...I notice your build has relatively low def/res and status res numbers due to not really having many "sets" in the build. Do you ever notice it that much? I built mine to be super sturdy but the proc idea has me wondering. Would I miss the sturdiness by doing a boatload more dmg?
  2. Thematically I went with Ice. But if you are min/maxing then it’s not the most powerful.
  3. What server are you on? I have a 50 of each that I’d be happy to show you the strengths and weaknesses of if you play Excelsior. Honestly Fire/ has more dmg and Dark/ has more lockdown and debuffs. I feel safer and more useful playing Dark/. But Fire/ is faster if you are soloing. Honestly when I play them back to back in teams I find myself missing the Dark/ powers more because the mob locks and debuffs are so good.
  4. Here is what I am using right now. I gathered a ton of builds on here and modified them to what I liked and how I like to play. I took Ice thematically but I hear Psi and a couple others are a bit better when min/maxing. The numbers are pretty good as far as status prot, def and res. It plays fantastic. In most groups without a herder I typically volunteer to run point. I can lock an entire mob while debuffing their tohit before anyone even takes any damage. Then run in and buff, lockdown, debuff etc in complete safety.   6. I played on live from the beginning up until 2007. Mostly support toons...controllers and defenders. I came back and started a bunch of replicas of my old toons as well as some new popular flavors. Played several up until late 30's and mid 40's and stopped. I just didn't feel very controllery. Even the latest Grav/Time craze wasn't as fun for me. I tried Ill/Cold and Ill/Rad...felt more like a MM than a controller. Deleted several of these attempts. Even my old Ice/Storm didn't tickle my fancy this time around. I like to lock mobs down and debuff them. Nothing like wading into a mob of 54s and just stand there doing my thing without getting hit and the team at full health and end. And the toon that made this happen and made me happy enough to keep playing him whenever I have the chance is my Dark/Dark troller. I just love playing it so much. When I join teams without Herders I volunteer to take the alpha...which I do in complete safety. The lockdown combined with the -tohit makes it a completely safe situation. I feel controllery again. In a bid to try an offshoot I now have a 50 Fire/Dark as well. Much more damage but not quite the same level of safety involved. Also super fun though. But in my opinion give Dark/Dark a try. There are tons of different choices but for me Dark/Dark brought the fun back again.
  7. After getting my Rad/Bio Brute and Dk/Dk Troller fully setted and done I am wanting to start something else. I have a Kin/Rad Def that I got to 38 (using basic IOs) but stopped playing due to the Brute taking over. I am considering taking him to 50 but I noticed a few Kin builds here have basically nothing slotted in most of the Kin powers. Is that the norm? I have no idea how to slot sets in Kin/Rad but it seems odd to not slot anything in your main powerset. On that note, anyone have a nice build for this combo? Or...I like playing support toons. Any suggestions for a nice fun combo for team play? I’ve got lots of Trollers so maybe a Defender? I love debuffing groups...my Dk/Dk troller is a ton of fun. Was thinking Cold/Sonic but I keep hearing it’s more single target focused.
  8. Can Elec armor be a good farm set? If so what would be best to pair it with? I'm thinking of making a Rad/Elec. I want it to be tough for AV content but I would also like to be able to farm it on occasion.
  9. My Rad/Bio is based on a Med IO build Rylas made but I can say that for your standard radio stuff up to +4 you shouldn't need to worry about your click powers. But at +3 and up doing real arcs with enemies that have abilities beyond punching then you need to start managing your pace. Making sure all three clickies are ready to go before jumping into the next mob. And my Brute isn't built like Voodoo's up there but I can herd a +4 map of your standard stuff very easily on normal to medium expense IO sets. I would like to try a different style of Brute toon to see what the other sets are like though if anyone has a decent combo idea.
  10. Well I tried the build both ways and I ended up using a couple of your ideas but I will say I do not prefer the damage configuration. I tried several missions with it and I tended to get hit or mezzed much more often than with the -to hit configuration. In the below build I have joined lvl 54 teams with all squishy players and I'm the guy who leads off the mobs. Fearsome stare locks the mob in fear and -to hit, living shadows stops any stragglers and tar patch slows them to a crawl. I then go into the middle with heart of darkness and soul absorption. By now the mob hasn't hit anyone and are locked in place for a looong time. It's a really great feeling to have this much control over mobs and protecting the team at the same time. Dark/Dark is a fantastic set. And with this build I have really nice status resist numbers along with def and resist numbers. Thanks to all for the advice and it really tells me there are a hundred different ways to build these guys which is what makes CoH the best game ever.   11. Damn that's why you make the big bucks Coyote. Going to make that change today 😉 I did know about recharge but my idea was to just slow them down as much as possible. But I see what you mean about exempting etc and needing more dmg. So Now I will try to find a good couple of dmg IO's to throw in there. Thanks! I'm new to these sets so I'm learning from the best 😉
  12. Thanks for the advice for sure. I have obtained and slotted most of the IO's for this build. But I may try unslotting and reslotting using your advice to see how it plays. I will say I have been trying to get some overall res and def by going further into the set bonuses. The less dmg and mez I take the better. 1) I might try this and put a +2 mag hold proc in there or something. 2) Probably going to keep it as the 6 slot bonuses are nice. 3+4) I may try this slotting later. I usually lead with Fearsome stare which freezes almost everyone....and with the Overpowering presence they are frozen for quite awhile. Then Living Shadows and then Tar Patch. But I can see your point with Living Shadows being up more often I might get some dmg IOs and try it your way for a few mishes to see how I like it. 5) Fade is already more than perma now and I like the set bonuses so I'll probably leave it. 7) I will probably try this to see the dmg output. 8 ) Ice Storm is definitely a -SPD and -RCHG power and can be slotted as such. I may try DMG IOs instead just to see if the ticks go from 1 to 2 or something. But my goal was to basically keep everyone in the same area in case the Living Shadows or Fearsome Stare missed. Once I get this build completed I'll play it both ways and see what I like. But I have complied about 8 builds from various nice players like yourself willing to help me out and there are definitely different styles going on here 😉 So I compiled the best ideas from everyone and made my own. Granted NO ONE chose the Ice Epic pool but it was more of a thematic thing for me 😉 Thanks again...time to get on my Brute and herd for money and email more cash to my Troller for IO's 😉
  13. Here is what I have settled on currently. I don't have the Will of the Controller or Overpowering Presence in there yet due to funds issues...but so far it is amazing. Played with some groups yesterday and it was amazing how seldom the enemy landed a hit. The crowning achievement was a DA team advertised for support and I joined. Mostly ranged damaged guys. About halfway through the first mish they we all exclaiming how glad they were that I joined the team. Apparently they were faceplanting fairly regularly until I joined. While I was there it was full health bars pretty much the whole time. Amazing how safe one toon can make a team using debuffs. Thanks to all who helped me out with build advice. I basically knew the powers I wanted but was unsure of slotting and what IO's to put in there. If you are teaming like I do I recommend to-hit debuffs in many of these powers over dmg.   14. So here are the powers I'd like to have. I know Frozen Armor can be a slot mule for Def and Dmg Res. Hover for Def. And Ice Storm for Slow and Dmg. The sheer number of sets and their bonuses are mind boggling. Maybe one of you gurus can suggest slotting for these powers? I was thinking of these options by examining posts and builds posted. I'm new to all this build stuff...I have looked at a lot of builds and pieced this together probably without really understanding the primary goal of each build. I like playing close to the action and am primarily a team player although I have been pressed into solo mishes when bored.   18. So my Dark/Dark is pushing 41 and I'm trying to save some cash for a decent IO build with some inexpensive sets or something. Do you have any suggestions for a mild build beyond 40?
  19. I found a purple recipe a couple of days ago and sold it for 14mil. I used 8mil to get all the memorization badges in the 25-30 range on one of my toons. I feel like I just slept at a holiday inn express last night.
  20. Then you may need to scrap this toon. Fire/Kin, especially kinetics, was never meant to be a floaty boom boom type of set. For it to work gloriously you need to be in the middle of everything and going nuts. I would consider a set more inclined to be played from a distance.

  24. I started a Grav/Time because of this thread and it's at 36 now and it really is very effective. Mobs are frozen and your teammates are safe from harm. Good fun...thanks.
