Yeah I have been checking it against a couple of other older builds posted to get some ideas 😉 Thanks!
-
Excellent. Any specific slotting advice you can offer? Which powers get what sets and how many slots would you put in those powers?
-
So I've decided to roll a Dark/Nature. Having zero experience with Nature can someone give me an idea of powers to skip and best set slotting for each power in the Nature set? I already have a ton of experience with Dark and the slotting I like so really just some help with Nature would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Dark/Storm: looking for ideas and tips, build critique

And the other lead off power of Living Shadows also debuffs. So you lead off every fight with 20+% defense vs +4 mobs. Now you know why a Dk troller can lead off fights for teams and stay safe. -

I have had it for months and respecced today because of this conversation 🙂 I changed to Psi pool with the mez protection and the resistance power. Have fun with your journey! I probably respecced my toon 7 times and built it twice as many times in the hero builder 🙂 -
Thanks for the insight! I don’t mind extra mechanics. I lean towards control over strict being a buffer/healer. I like defense and keeping the party safe. With that in mind do you think nature would be better or thermal?
-
Ok I'm thinking Nature or Thermal. Totally new sets to me. I typically lean to more control so Nature may be suitable to my playstyle.

The more I have Hibernate in my main, the less I like it. Seems like the only time I need it is because I got mezzed. And you can't use it if you are mezzed. So if I do end up dying it's because I had to watch my health bar drop because I couldn't do anything about it. -
Thanks. The ones I mentioned are just sets I haven't really tried yet. Not because I think they are especially awesome 😉

I also slot for Rech and what I typically do is take Fly, Tough and Weave. But instead of Hover and Afterburner I take Combat Jump. Then you get your mules when you take the epic pool shield powers...whatever that may be. You can have CJ on all the time and get the bonuses. You can use it with Fly to get crazy maneuverability. I found hover to be basically useless. The energy font is just a little temporary pet that spawns and attacks enemies for some extra dmg. I would definitely put Overpowering Presence in Fearsome because it fires more often and you can potentially have two energy fonts out at once sometimes. Then Will of the Troller in HoD. You wouldn't believe how long mobs stay feared with those 6 slotted. -

Opener is Fearsome. Should lock everyone in place. Then Living Shadows. HoD is just one of those powers you can use whenever it's available for some decent dmg and extra control. After Fearsome and Living they should be debuffed enough that you shouldn't be getting any return dmg except from a boss maybe. When you hit IO's you will damn near unhittable. It's so powerful that I often can be the guy to take the alpha shots from large enemy groups when I am on a team without Brutes/Tanks. It's super fun. Shadow Field is something I use situationally. Maybe in a doorway or other place where a lot of enemies will bunch up in one spot. It's a nice slow with a chance for hold. It's not an opener. -
So I've been having a ton of fun with my Dk/Dk troller. Of all my controllers he is my favorite. I would like to try a new build with a different secondary. I would consider /Storm, /Kin, /Nature, /Rad, /Poison and /Thermal. Any of these stick out as having good synergy with Dark? Thanks!

I'm just going to freestyle here while looking at your questions... I would put Overpowering Presence in Fearsome and Will of the Troller in HOD. The Energy Font comes up quite often with Fearsome being so fast to recharge. Fearsome lead and immediately follow with Living Shadows and you have instant lockdown with no retaliation. Then run in with HOD when it's available. I usually 4 slot Exp Reinforce in Haunt but also put in Cloud Sense Proc in the fifth slot. I don't usually find a need for Possess...so I take Shadow Field and slot it with 4 basilisk gaze. I slot Umbra with the same slotting as Haunt. The proc helps quite a bit. Dark is my favorite controller. I am considering trying a different Dk/? combo so I'm interested in hearing your experience with Storm. -
Thanks that was what I was looking for.
-
And where would this survival tool be?
-
So I'm struggling to find the best way to reduce incoming damage. With no heals I need to bolster my damage mitigation. The heal procs are interesting but honestly don't really help. I'm taking tough/weave already but I'm trying to decide on my epic for the best way to get some more damage mitigation. Would you rather have 40% def s/l and 35% res s/l (using the Frozen Armor...also 30% added fire/cold res)....or 20% def s/l and capped res s/l (using Mind Over Body) and also having access to Indomitable Will? Either aoe damage power in the set is basically the same to me...Ice Storm or Psionic Tornado.
-
I’ll be honest. I like a lot of the Proc ideas and I use some of them in my builds from time to time but I usually build my controllers for control first and damage second. I like the defense and safety first. If I can throw a few interesting Procs in a power here and there without losing too much actual control and defense then I’ll play around with it. But I’ve tried full proc builds in my fire/dark and dark/dark and I just don’t like it. Sure you do more damage but lockdown times are much shorter and I end up in trouble more often. Being 90% team player I prefer to keep everyone safe so they can clean up the floor. But I absolutely use some procs in my builds...I just don’t go Willy nilly full procmaster 🙂 Here is where I am right now. Tried the Sandman Proc and it works pretty well. I'm only 37 but it gives 42hp back to me every 5secs or so...maybe a tad more. On initial hit one time it gave me two 42s at once.
-
I'll chime in... Twilight Grasp put Touch of the Nictus for the Accuracy bonus so it will actually hit. It looks like you are going for more dmg than control with all your dmg IO's in everything. I typically slot more for control but it's personal preference. I would proc out Hot Feet and Bonfire. I would put some EndMod sets in Soul Absorption. I put two heals and 4 endmods. It really helps. Just my initial thoughts.
-
I put Overpowering Presence in Fearsome Stare. Basilisks Gaze in Shadow Field, Will of the Troller in Heart of Darkness and Dark Watcher's Despair in Darkest Night. Toon is basically unkillable 😉
-
Your AOE hold (somewhat) is Fearsome Stare. Lead with that, then follow with Tar Patch and Living Shadows. You can then walk amongst your neutered enemies with ease while they wallow in their own hopelessness. Later levels you will enjoy added defense with Shadow Fall and Fade. Then Heart of Darkness and Howling Twilight will stun them to oblivion. At this point you can use Soul Absorption and lay down and take a nap if you like...and dream pleasant dreams of all the teammates you just saved from dangerous harm. Almost everything in this combo has -tohit. The only things I slot with actual -tohit sets are Dark Servant and Darkest Night. If you would like to see my sample build I'd be happy to share.

So here is kind of where I'm sitting right now as far as a build is concerned. I can move slots here and there but it's working and I'm at 33 so far. I have Malaise in Synaptic right now. Damn that is effing genius. Changing my build right now 😉

One more question...I see Conductive Aura can take heal IOs. Does this make a noticeable difference? I can probably find a couple of slots to devote to healing if I knew it would help when I’m in the middle of a larger mob taking hits. I have two Perf Shift IO in there now.
