I'm playing a Marine/Water Defender now, because...FOMO? 😉 Even solo, I tend to Shoal Rush packs at range, then Whitecap into the middle of them (Soothing Wave hits them too), then hit my bind key to teleport (translocate) backwards/up out of reach. Then, while they are already triple-debuffed, I start peppering them at range with Water and other powers. I'm only low level still, but even I can see how effective those debuffs are for controlling a fight. And I have so many more ahead - yet to try/take Tide Pool, Water Burst, Whirlpool, Dehydrate, Brine, Waterjet, Steam Spray and Geyser, ALL of which perform some sort of debuff or other. As someone said, seems to be a very OP powerset right now, which will be fun for a little while :). -

Thanks guys, wasn't really even thinking about an ice dom, but now...I just can't imagine something replacing the sheer power and majesty that is Seeds of Confusion from my Plant/Thorny dom :). But I am off to make yet another alt later, because never let it be said that I got on top of alt-o-holism solo!!! 😉

Cheers guys, I made a ice/cold corruptor on a whim, but I'm now going back to make a blaster! I had an ice & fire blaster as my main back on live, but didn't like much of the fire melee stuff & he was very squishy until the late 30s from memory. The only blaster to date that I've felt really strong and comfortable with at range is my dark/ninja which has the best survivability of any blaster I remember playing (with just 2 ninja powers lol!), and pretty good damage from dark. Hi folks, I love ice/cold as a theme, but haven't had a lot of success with it so far, ahem. The cold/ice defender was meh, ice/ice stalker so so, sentinel not my cuppa, I think a blaster or corruptor may be too squishy for my play style. I prefer ranged and stealthy characters, and I've mostly enjoyed trollers, doms, MMs, my squids and Fortunata. I don't mind tankers in theory, as slow as they can be to level, given their godliness - how would an ice/ice one be for solo levelling...? (A corruptor looks better than a blaster anyway, given I'd only have to skip a couple team-only shields in the secondary, whereas the blaster has a lot more melee powers I'd skip). Thanks in advance one and all!

I'm a corr dabbler. My highest are psy/time and dark/storm. I really like dark as a primary as you get your sniper power at level 2(!) and can fill it up with enhances by level 5-7 - there is something to be said about that! I'm also looking for my next serious long-range mostly-solo hero. I've had my fill of MMs, doms and melee ATs for now. The only blaster I've ever been able to get very far is a dark/ninja which with only a couple ninja toggles is incredibly tanky I find. So, that leaves me to choose between a Defender or Corruptor (not a fan of sentinels either, eh). If that doesn't work out, I may just go back to my high 20s squids (I have both parked), or my fortunata. And I think defenders are just too party focused for my liking. For corruptors, I may try a rad/rad, as I have a stalker with those powers which was reasonably fun, not sure how it translates to a corr. Or I may go back to the 2 above and try to get 1 of those into the mid 30s, to see how they perform solo once I have all the powers. Water/FF looks like a decent combo to solo (again, if it translates ok from a defender).

Love me some dark love! I'm trying to get out of my comfort zone and playing around with some melee builds of late (shock, horror!). Yet to find something that sticks, whether stalky, scrappy, tanky or hybridy, eh. Still mostly soloing and playing the AH daily _blush_. Is the MIDS build above still fairly current and the 'zeitgeist' for a dark/dark brute Mr Snarky? Would a tanker be better for a shlomo scrub like me? 😉 Is dark/invul 'better' or easier/more forgiving for casual solo play perhaps...? Btw, OT - are you enjoying the new Interview With The Vampire series? I'm lovin it, even if vamps are not usually my jam, go figure.

Just updated, now getting an Unhandled exception on start up every time, even with a new build I just saved with this version. All older files are crashing with the same error and not loading builds. Woot! Just hit 30, added a LotG power and hey presto! Perma-dom yipee!!! Changes the whole gameplay approach, for sure. Now, it's touch and go if I don't refresh Hasten within a sec or two of it expiring, I then miss out on Dom which is flashing as I re-apply it right now. Watching Hasten like a hawk was a pain, so I'm just autoexecing the 2 powers manually alternating in turn, as I don't really like any of the binds people have suggested, eh. Will have another 7.5% set completed next level, which should give me a bit more breathing room. Wish there was the option to autoexec a second power... sniff ---- Ok, so there is a way, but it might be a little naughty, ahem. What I did was create these 2 binds: 9 "powexecslot 9$$powexecauto hasten" 0 "powexecslot 10$$powexecauto domination" I then emptied those 2 tray slots to prevent the push-button 'power not ready' constant sound. And then moved the powers to another pair of buttons, for visibility more than anything. Finally, I then used my Logitech mouse macro to simply press the 9 and 0 each every second and bound the toggle to a spare mouse button. This prevents my Domination running out currently, as I barely have enough recharge to sustain it. Only downside is if you have to alt-tab out of the game it may not work (and definitely won't if you toggle the macro off, which you might want to do in other apps anyway, as your keyboard pressing 9...0...9...0 continually is obviously quite annoying ;). So, is that completely against the EULA/gameplay terms...? I am clearly only at 'testing' stage. ---- No one...? :(

Thanks laudwic, guys, been most helpful. Will take your advice about running the lest time-demanding group content, and up to +2/x3 story content solo. I have about 320mill saved across my mains, as I've been playing the AH for a while now on & off, so I should be ok hopefully. I'm using Carnifax's cheap IO build & have everything twinked out with attuned sets + 40 IOs, which I'll upgrade to 50 at 47 & then boost to +5 as I get to 50. The Superior Will of the Controller will be the expensive, currently going for 15-20mill each = up to 120mill (yikes!).

A bit early in the year, I know, but I was just rummaging in my CoH archive files/screenshots and came across these two from Sep 11 2004: Ahhh, those were the days...pretty sure there were hundreds of ppl down at Ms Liberty, just my PC of the day could only handle 1024x768 with a draw distance of 3 metres lol!

Back on live I only ever got my ice/fire blaster to 44 I think, before I gave up on the grind & eventually the game got shut down. I've now gotten my Ill/Dark troller to 40 (I have chronic alt-o-holism & very limited time!), and noticed the very slow XP bar progress, even with double XP. So, my question, what would be the best place(s) to do some group power-levelling for the last 10 levels? I'm a bit over DfB/DiB runs, so hoping there is some other area/zone/game mode I can join relatively easily. I also can't spend hours in TFs or whatnot, as I often only have a half hour/hour at most to play. Do I just add +1/2/3 to mob level and team size while I solo & see how I go? She currently steam-rolls all +0/0 content, no surprise there! Thanks guys.
