So i have put together the following build: 38.8% ranged def - less than desirable! 75 S/L res - pretty good. 5.2s off perma hasten so with ageless it should be all good. End is tight without ageless as well! If i drop Voltaic and take maneuvers, ranged def goes to 43% - which is better? How would elec Blast? I've not used it in years and I have seen many mixed opinions on it.

Really would like a wider range of colour for ice powers. The palette at the moment is so muted and limited. I want black ice!

i did some messing around on the test server with this. I loaded ice slick up with 3 procs, they would sometimes fire upon casting but not always, but then i didnt even notice any damage from ice slick. I had a interface power slotted that constantly ticked 1 dmg every sec but that was it. Cold snap on the other hand worked really well. Again i added 3 procs (i think) and with the arc of the cone i would always manage to hit a significant amount of enemies. The only problem with this power is that it doesn't synergise much with the rest of the set. Works well as an opener that's it really. Arctic air is a bit odd as it takes a few secs for the effect to take hold so it can be a bit dicey!

At present I do have a plant/dark/fire who is pretty damn tanks at times but I have been told a few times now that plant is useless in hardmode because of the confusion immunity. Cold does suffer from a lack of survivability with having no heal - which sucks. But taking stone mastery for Earth's embrace helps a little (in theory). The irony is I had leveled a dark/dark troller last yr and ended up deleting it because I didn't like the pairing >.<

I'm not sure how valid this is but i tested a dark/cold/stone vs 3 Pylons and got the following times: 02:15, 01:59, 02:12 i then tested a sonic/cold/soul and got the following: 04:05, 03:53, 04:15 All same incarnates.

Pets were out and died a fair amount even with shields but not sure how this would translate in hard mode.

Ah, thanks, updated. @hemij im not a fan of Def, i prefer the dmg aspect of a Corr.

After much deliberation I settled on a Sonic/Cold/Soul - though need to test on BETA server to see if i enjoy the combo, but in theory its ok. 33.23% s/l Def, 46.4% r, 75% s/l Res. The global rech is a problem at the moment: 26.9s off Hasten being perma 3.84s off Benumb 5.56s for Sleet Heatloss is at 100.9s overall - Mids isnt showing me the duration length but im pretty sure it was 90s? Agility Radial solves these issues but guts a decent amount of potential dmg from the procs. I don't really want to have to take ageless as i probably wont need it with Heat Loss and this build would probably benefit more from Clarion or Rebirth. As a side note, does Cold benefit from Power Boost? If not its better to probably change to Dark instead of Soul.

@Sovera then perhaps neither water or ice is the best fit then. In most cases I don't generally mind which blast set as I like most and could make them work. What I want is a character I can take through all the games aspects, so having powers that are beneficial to hard mode is important. @SeraphimKensai I'm curious how different sonic Blast is after the tweaks as it was previously better overall on a def. It's one of those sets I enjoy conceptually but in practice it just doesn't perform well enough.

Ideally I'm looking for a character to play all through the hardest content with some solo potential - hence fearsome. I think I'm leaning towards 2 characters: Ice/dark/dark corr Sonic/cold/soul corr or dark/cold/stone troller - though I think the sonic/cold will likely net better results, maybe. Though I would prefer the troller.

Sounds like a good argument. But overall ice/cold would perform better in higher end content? Where would that compare to sonic/cold? Would ice/dark perform better than water?

In your experience why is cold better? Doubling down on -res? Access to -def? How do you manage without a self heal?

Back on live I had a Rad/Dark/Dark corr which i did everything with, she was super tanky and just ate everything up. When homecoming was released I remade her as a Water/Dark/Dark and after getting to 50, fully slotting, and unlocking some Incarnate powers I put her on a shelf. Looking back now i think its because Water wasn't the best fit for me or maybe it was the build in general? I think perhaps i might have been trying to get too much from the build, taking too many powers and not enough slots. Water has a lot of good damaging abilities to the point that i think there is too much! I was trying to Fearsome Stare + Tar Patch + Soul Drain + Whirlpool + Water Burst/Geyser etc etc on nearly every encounter. Obviously most if not all would be dead before I even got a chance to cast everything. I think maybe the key to this build is to perhaps strip out a few abilities, the problem for me at least is identifying which need to go! I have considered recreating my original and going back to Rad/Dark (cant find the build I used so threw one together): Or maybe going for something new like Ice Blast: All that being said out of the 3 sets (Water, Rad, Ice) Water does seem to have the most damage potential? I mean the Tidal Power mechanic with Water Jet is great as it is. I am at a loss to say the least! I would like to be able to take this character into the higher end of difficulty content as well.
