Yeah.  And I have.  The responses usually go around the lines of:

    • "I'm just too busy for gaming these days."  Legitimate.  Life happens.  Nothing you can do there.
    • "I've already done it all at least a thousand times.  Every thing you can possibly do in the game, I've done more times than I can count.  I've moved on."
    • "Homecoming has made the endgame too easy.  People only do Incarnate trials because they want to, not because they need to."
    • "Too many people only farm."
    • "City of Heroes is just too old now.  There are tons of newer, more modern, and better looking games out there.  Why would I want to continue playing a dead eighteen year-old video game?  Really, you should come join us in DC Universe Online/Final Fantasy XIV/Guild Wars 2/SWTOR/whatever the new hotness is now instead."

So, you are complaining that your efforts have gone to naught.  I don't know how to help you?

This can't be good for the health of the game nor the game's community overall.

Good luck getting the light bulb to change by itself.  We are playing an *AWESOME* game that is now 16 years old.

It's old enough to give you side-eye when you ask it to help around the house.

I do not see a path where CoX gets tens of thousands of new players.  But I do recommend reaching out to all your old friends who used to play the game.

Certain recipes are hard to come by right now and pricing can go higher than what I have ever bought things for here on HC. I wonder if it is part of the new characters being leveled at such a rate and lower population offering an even lower supply. Oddly enough some of the converted IOs are just sitting there even on weekends.

I'd be curious to hear what people are seeing nowadays, now that the event is long over.

    At the time:

Salvage (notably white and yellow, I wasn't watching orange) was not coming into the /AH at nearly the rate it normally did.  My assumption was that people who would normally farm and sell their drops were getting xp from the event instead.

Recipes (notably yellow, again wasn't watching orange) also came in at a much lower rate.

Finished products, especially high end stuff, sold like hotcakes.  Again, my assumption was that people were fast tracking 50s and pulling out the stops to equip them right away.

How much of this, if any, have you seen continuing?  I feel that prices on things are slightly higher for the most part, but I'm not observing as closely as I once was.

  4. It's pretty straightforward.

Same level, it's 100% chance of combining to +1.

One level difference, it's 95% chance.

Two level difference, it's 90% chance.

If you start with 4 lvl 50 HOs, you can expect to convert them into a level 53 (1.00 * 0.95 * 0.90) = 85.5% of the time.

Or you can start with 8 lvl 50s for 100% guarantee.

Wish I could help, but all the characters in my roster are small or medium sized.

    That's a good point.

A large character tip:  Before Agent G's mission line, if your character body type is Huge, you may want to consider going to a cosmetic surgeon and switching to something smaller for the missions.  Using the Arachnos disguise as Huge makes you a giant, which I find *incredibly* annoying when you are running through tunnels and bases.

Negative. Just because you're playing with yourself doesn't change the fact that you're duoing the game. Might as well consider 8 boxing soloing which most can do with even moderately decent rigs theses days.

Actually, I would consider 8-boxing to be solo play, since there is (presumably) only one person actually working on it.

But then again, I can't imagine 8-boxing would be the most efficient way to raise one character 1-50!

  7. I’ve been going down the non-elemental sword ice melee wormhole, and it’s pretty great.  I’m running mostly scrappers since I want *some* survivabilty challenge.  Frost is the real star of the set.  So many great bonuses/procs.  Most definitely 90 degrees, and if you can work in some range extension, you will not regret it.

  8. To be honest, the fastest way is to two-box, which is technically solo, which can get you from 1-50 in a number of hours, but I doubt you are talking about that.

If we are talking about some sort of challenge, where people would compete against the clock, it is intellectually interesting to me to think about how I would approach it.

first question is: self-funding or not?  I made a thread a long time ago about speed inf gathering, and it’s not as lucrative as it once was, but you could probably still pull it off.  Second question is what types of missions, if any?  AE farms would probably be fastest, followed by regular missions, lastly street sweeping.

if I were to go down this path, I would have a catheter installed, self-fund, and mainly do paper missions, specifically Council missions.  I’d probably start blue side at +1/x1 (which is my starting default) and run my first set of contacts (probably natural origin).  By the time I hit level 5, I would expect to have enough inf to keep myself in SOs and I would start running paper missions.

Depending on your AT and power choices (I’d probably pick some sort of brute, definitely one that is AoE friendly, because I prefer melee and going to the hospital will shave previous time off your goals), then it’s just pushing the limits on your +/x to max out your xp.  Double xp?  Sure.  Normally, I go +1/x1 to +1/x3 to +2/x3 to +2/x5 to +3/x5 to +3/x8 and I usually don’t go +4/x8 pre 50 unless I’m playing something really overpowered.  But for xp gain I might prioritize the x over the + and shoot for +1/x8 ASAP.

I’ve never tried to do it in a single session—not even close.  But I suspect someone could easily pull it off before 8 hours of double speed expired.  Even faster if you add 8 hours of boosters as soon as you can.

I think the oddest quirk for the market was seeing common salvage going for so high and salvage taking so long to fill in general.

Yeah, I found that to be the interesting part as well.  We don't often get supply droughts.

One thing I've been concerned about conceptually is how the fear may affect clumping up mobs. Do you find that it tends to keep things a bit more in their starting places, or do you still see ample scootch into melee range given the bits of movement they are allowed here and there? Although I don't bother doing formal herding, I do like to use the environment to cut LoS and encourage quick clumping, and don't like the idea of mobs sort of trailing off in a line as they are feared in place while I move into position.

It's been a while since I took my fearmonger out for a spin, but you don't see a lot of runners with the terrorized mechanic.  IIRC if they are in cower mode and take damage, they either counter attack or run away for a few seconds before going back into cower mode.

@Bionic_Flea had a good post about this titled "Phobophobia" in General a while back and there was some good stuff in there.

I'll add on to this one a bit.  I compare this to the Leaping pool.  Combat Jump is nice with the constant 3% defense and movement, instrumental?  No.  Now Unleash Potential nets you upwards of 20% defense well slotted and if you power boost it oh boy.  You're getting high defense/regen/endurance in key moments when you likely most need it for a minute and with good global recharge you can get use out of it quite often.

    Unleash Potential > Combat Jump.

Then you have your travel with Mighty Leap which are almost the same.  Also there's Weaken Resolve which is a sneaky good ST debuff, drop an Achilles Heel in there and you have a 90% chance to get your team 25-30% -resistance on an AV.

Most of my characters go with the Force of Will pool.  I slot Weaken Resolve with the Achilles proc, you can add an accuracy but I usually get good global accuracy.  Mighty Leap gets either a 53 Microfilament or 2 of the Winter's Gift for that -rech res if I have an extra slot.  Unleash Potential gets 4 Shield Walls all the ones with recharge and all +5, if this is my only set of Shield Wall I'll also slot the unique somewhere in there or 5th and or add a lotg +rech if I have the extra slot.

Two more things I'll add to this that may be a little esoteric.

Weaken Resolve takes a *lot* of procs.  And you should be pretty much maxed out in terms of activation percentage.  Don't sleep on the two +to hit procs -- they can have some real usefulness!  Just make sure you have plenty of accuracy built in the power in the first place.

If you are a knockdown freak like myself, Takeoff (from Mighty Leap) is an auto-hit (I think) knockdown.  It's only available when Mighty Leap is active, but it is quick, easy, and tremendously amusing to click Mighty Leap, then Takeoff, then turn off Mighty Leap and get back to business in the midst of all that floppery.

  12. I think you'll find that you will have plenty of endurance with the theft of essence proc in DNA siphon and Parasitic Aura (I usually slot the latter with 5x panacea and the theft proc) so you can probably lighten up a bit on your other investments in endurance reductions.  For almost all my bio alts (and I have a lot of them) I don't need to give Health more than a Panacea proc and Stamina more than a Perf Shifter proc.

  13. Well...

On the plus side there are still lots of opportunities for marketers.

On the down side, user demand is waning daily, so unless you are selling to marketers, it's difficult to maintain certain benchmarks.

I think it is still possible to make a billion inf profit from zero in 24 hours, but you'd really need to know what you are doing, and you'd have to do it on a weekend.  My days of raking in 2bn a day for an hour's work are long behind me.  But at the end of the day, all you need to know is how converters work.

Um, you can't skip the first ice sword, cause you're NOT getting the worst power almost in the game with Frozen Fists. They SEVERLY need to make it just Frost Punch, .83s like charged brawl/energy punch are.

Likewise, they also REALLY need to turn GiS back to Ice Slash that it USED to be, like the dom version is. Yeah CP is a good replacement for GiS, but not taking the ato sets/ST sets kinda hurts the build for s/l defense etc. To a single target GiS is still nice, just used less often in the build. It also does at least have higher base acc, so if you put the crit strikes set into FT, which honestly does proc better and works better before the aoe's, you could put the 4 kinetic combats in it, then put 2 damage procs as well to shore up the ST damage.

Also, the theft proc is unique, you can't. Also, it procs once, which would be kinda pointless in parasitic aura given its longer recharge, plus it has much higher recovery values, and doesn't need any other help to help your endurance. You're not going to run out once you cast it till it's over. I'd even say it's not needed in dna, but it's nice. Def not needed in efficient mode.

Also, the crit strikes proc WORKS best by actively using it for what you need. It's way not worth it in a toggle. That's not how you do scrappers.. The best place is FT, but as i mentioned having hold stuff in it is nice too, and it also procs well in GiS.

This is ten pounds of wrong in a five pound bag.  You do you, and best of luck with that!
