Hey all, looks like VEAT Shardtober went well. If there's room I can run with Commenticia - Illusion/FF Controller. Otherwise I'd be up for a second run on an alt afterward.

So, a recent conversation I had in game reminded me of this old video essay I saw: https://www.youtube.com/embed/BKP1I7IocYU?si=50h5Xd66rU05Gdyz The most salient points in the video for me here are: Video games like WoW (i.e., CoX) have paratexts* that affect how we the playerbase play the game. Paratexts allow players to share player knowledge, playstyles, and game mechanics/theories. Over time games can be "solved" by the playerbase and those solutions can become standardized and the expected playstyles. Bucking those playstyles, regardless of reason or merit, can isolate for that iconoclast and "rude" to other players. For me, there is certainly a level at which CoX has been "solved" and that knowledge has disseminated within the playerbase, but I don't yet believe that making potentially "bad' choices in CoX is actually ethically bad for other players. This is not to say that players are never refused a spot on a team or league because they are the right archetype or powerset or have made a possibly erroneous power choice. Rather, that power/builds/etc. are not universally exclusionary: a "petless" MM or "pacifist" defender can still can team to do trials or strike/task forces, and they have access to drops the same as everyone else. Further, although there are different things done as speedruns, it is not the standard way of playing, so again those more unorthodox builds are still functional and have access to the same content as most other people. Being optimized is not the standard or expectaion; CoX is for the most part a "casual" MMO. But, I wonder if, as time goes on, the casualness of CoX will give-way and it will become "rude" to be less than optimal at CoX. *As defined in the video, "paratext" is anything that pertains to the game that is not in the game intself. So that would include not only ParagonWiki, Mids, or City of Data, but also Developer or player posts on this board, a video guide on Youtube, or a Discord conversation.

I'll try to be there next week with Baryosynthesis - Rad/Regen. Sent. And, I too will have to take a break from our usual Saturday teams during October.
-
I'll try to bring Oni - Ninja/Beer Affinity MM. Also, if folks are up for it, can we please do a second run of the same trial? I have a controller that needs the badge but can't quite fit the theme.
-
I'll try to bring Super-Radiance - Kin./Energy Defender.
-
I'll try to bring my Ninja/Marine MM next week
-
I'll try to be there with Marcor - Rad./Bio. Brute
-
Well, I had the damnable luck to have my internet be out for most of the morning/day, so here's my widow in her council attire: I'll try to be there next weekend with Baryosynthesis - Rad/Regen Sent.
-
I'll bring Nox Atrissima - Night Widow
-
I';ll try to be there this Saturday, not sure which alt. yet though. Also: I'd recommend any of the Rogue/Vigilante missions that Homecoming has put out (I'd be partial for the vigilante one week and the Rogue ones another). Not sure many have gotten a chance to run these for badges.

Sorry I missed Theme Team today; I was a bit under the weather. I hope it still went well. I'll try to be there with Alichino - Demons/Pain MM
-
I'll try to be there this weekend with Hiemps - Storm/Ice Blaster.
-
Unfortunately, I have some plans tomorrow so I can't be there. Good luck to the rest. Also: These look great! I'd like to bring my demon/pain MM to the Virgil Tarikoss so maybe some theme involving fire or devils/demons (or maybe literary references)? Similarly, I'd like to bring my Widow to the Ernesto Hess TF, so maybe something involving spies, ninjas, or stealth?

Sorry to hear about your health troubles @TrixieKixx. Hope you get well soon.

While we're doing the Blueside ones, I'll bring my Illusion/FF controller. Not sure who else I'll bring to the rest.

I hope to bring a Paragon Protector (Atomi - Grav./Rad. Controller). I was really surprised that I managed to pull Neuron without attracting Bobcat and co., so Glacier didn't even need to distract her. And, thanks all for settling for my leadership through this one. It was a bunch of fun and seemed to go very smoothly despite one or two hiccups.

Focused Feedback: Pocket D Friend - Blarf
Burnt Umber replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Ah, then I'm mistaken. I didn't realize that type of salvage had been seeded; I retract my concern. -
Focused Feedback: New Badges, Accolades, & Powers
Burnt Umber replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
I like the badges! I also like the Sheer Willpower accolade power, but like others, feel the Blue side requirements are too steep. Couldn't the power be tied to having the Stout-hearted accolade? -
Focused Feedback: Pocket D Friend - Blarf
Burnt Umber replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
This is a cute addition. I note that Blarf occasionally gives legacy base salvage from interaction. This might not be a wise reward: some players use that salvage as inf. storage bins on the market and are going to be very angry to lose that inf. to some player who lists the reward rather than vendoring it. -
Focused Feedback: The Labyrinth of Fog
Burnt Umber replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
As I've been trying out this feature, it seems decidedly not solo friendly: the large spawn size, incarnate scaling of the mobs, frequency of mobs with boosted perception (e.g., upper level Family and Resistance with targeting drones), and the Minotaur's seek & destroy behavior all make wandering the labyrinth deadly without doubling up on stealth and hide or the like. At the same time, once a certain amount of buffs/cheats were enabled, wandering around the labyrinth was actually quite fun. The only real exception was when I got sent to the Endless Columnade, which was a surprisingly beautiful map but utterly frustrating to navigate with no method to backtrack (I'd kill for Theseus' string there). -
Sure! Hope you have fun on the trip.

I'll try to be there next week with Horrere - Sonic/Cold Corruptor. And I goofed when I mentioned incarnate inspirations earlier today. I think the team lead had stocked up on large team inspirations. The major thing I remember from my runs from this is that the loss of set bonuses is definitely noticeable, so inspirations - team/dual/etc. - really help balance things a bit. Also, for those who have the cash, amplifiers/boosters from the ST.A.R.T. vendor really help. This is the sort of thing where throwing everything you have saved up as temps. is sort of necessary.

Put me down for Nox Atrissima - Night Widow/Fortunata
