  1. One hopes it's the good Guy Ritchie rather than the other Guy Ritchie but 'from the director of Sherlock Holmes' bodes ill on that front. Speaking of Guy, interested to see what happens with the series version of the Gentlemen later this week. the expand-a-movie-into-a-series thing seems to be a whole genre now. Just finished the first season of Sexy Beast, which i liked quite a bit more than the movie which I remembered as fairly boring aside from Ben Kingsley yelling.

  2. I assume you've seen Slow Horses, which has almost caught my favorite spy show Spooks (which I know you've seen from another thread), and the Americans. soooo Deutschland '83? A Spy Among Friends? The Informant? The Ipcress File (the recent show)? some of those are slow burns even at my watch speeds though. I've got nothing on the movie front as I barely watch them anymore.

  3. I generally avoid trailers for things I'll eventually see but saw a bit of this one walking past sportsball. I genuinely can't believe they expect anyone to pay to go to this, it just looks ridiculous. Hoping my trick of expecting the worst movie ever made and then being pleasantly surprised will work, but that's been failing me a lot lately.

  4. Reinstalled Avengers and am liking it pretty well playing the campaign instead of whatever i got into last time. It's flawed but cool and suitably cinematic. A couple things that bother me are they decided that 'toggling on' sprint means you run until you jump and land and then have to toggle it on again (with the screen telling you so if it's necessary for what you're doing). Seems like a fundamental misunderstanding of what 'toggle' means. The other is that I keep getting alerts that better gear is available every two seconds but there doesn't seem to be an auto-equip better gear setting. It might be that I'm just too early on and that there's gear later you might want to keep on at a lower level but it's not shown up yet so seems an odd choice.

Generally the controls are pretty bad, but I've played worse.

Penultimate episode... some let-downs in the writing compared to the rest of the series, but sets up the final battle ep properly...

    Spoiler

I'm not entirely sold on Shetty being dead. It's possible Cate could've leveled up enough without the drugs to have created the scenario for the full group without touch (specifically triggering Marie as an added feint).

    • Shetty's backstory comes to light - again, quite a blunt piece of writing, but they were trying to pack a lot into this episode. Even if Shetty genuinely loved her, Cate was her cute little blonde monster that eventually turned. Little disappointing she didn't have some wider ambitions. There could have been more to her final exit as well if Cate (or the writers) had been a bit more creatively nasty.
  6. Ok I've seen all three eps now and liked them.

    Spoiler

Wish Clancy Brown were around a bit longer, but he seems to like showing up briefly to class up joints lately.

Not sure I'd have wanted either Runaways or New Mutants to be like this. But then I liked Runaways better than any MCU tv show so far, and was pleasantly surprised by New Mutants, which I was expecting to be more along the lines of what Morbius and the Venoms were.

Also how great is the name London Thor

Did Thrawn ever face Anakin as well as running into Vader? I'm sure he'd kinda-sorta-enjoy having an opponent of almost his own level?

    Spoiler

Yes. One of the first of the new canon Thrawn books has time jumps between him working with Anakin and Padme and him later working with Vader. He, being Brainy Smurf, figures it out.

I've not read the second canon Thrawn trilogy but unless a lot of things are resolved there the Filoni Thrawn's motivations really seem different enough from the first trilogy as to feel like a different canon. Of course this is hardly the first inkling that FIloni is his own canon.
