  1. That was a joke, note the smiley tongue? and I doubt Jimmy is emotionally overreacting, he doesn't strike me as an overly emotional person.
  2. This is also likely not the place to have whatever discussion you're insinuating Jimmy doesn't want to have. Calm down, Jimmy is just social distancing from the issue. 😛
  3. I think you're overthinking it. I doubt our devs are sitting there wringing their hands wondering which playstyle to screw over next. It's all about keeping the game balanced and following the goal. All dev teams/design teams have goals, Cryptic did, Paragon did, those were both driven in some part by NCSoft's own goals, this team has theirs, but the difference is they're driven by maintaining a playerbase as whole, and just keeping the game running, not on profit. They also will see some things as more worth fixing or attention than a profit-driven company might (notice the base stuff, and the fact one of the oldest bugs in the game (Team windows says "in Supergroup Base" when on mission and vice versa) has been fixed. Priorities and designs will be different, some good, some bad (depending on perspective). Just like any team.
  4. There are a LOT of new players, actually. Friends of mine who never played back in the day who want to see what the big deal was, etc. Also...quite a lot of most of the players in CoH live were also thoroughly average. I knew people who never slotted or kept up with their enhancements, then complained when they died during SOME content (not even touching ITrials). There were the top 10%, then there's everyone else (just like any other game). And yes, LOTS of people used TOs, DOs, and SOs and never touched IOs at all in the old days.
  5. Farming CREATES Influence, it's a market inflationary force. the Market moves Influence around between people (and takes 10% of the transaction OUT of the game with every one), it's a market CONTROL force. The fact that some people know how to use it and don't isn't the issue.
  6. You have accurately discribed 90% of my CoH life from issue 3 to now (with the exception of ED and Inv nerfs, which took a lot of learning). The game is fun at all levels, you have fun with friends, you enjoy it, I never rushed to 50, and didn't have my main to 50 until Issue 9 or so, and I started at i3. Other than a lot of RP which was also fun, you have summed up the mechanics of my game experiences. CoH is just good in general. This is a nominal thing that will adjust.
  7. Thank you Jimmy, I agree 100% with this (also true with SOME other aspects of the game, but...yeah).
  8. Sort of. The double Influence thing DID exist on live as you were leveling up IF you had no debt to pay off. Essentially any XP you would've earned to pay off "Debt" when Ex'd became inf instead. The issue is, once Vet levels became a thing, it got worse, because XP existed past 50 (not for a LOT of purpose, but it exists now). You couldn't double inf at 50 on live because you could never be ABOVE 50. You got it being ex'd down below 50 to lower level players and not having an XP debt to pay off, you couldn't get it AT 50. How other servers handle stuff would depend on them.
  9. Then the devs will take action to balance that if needed. It's also possible they are working on another way to fix the issue and might then restore the fixed feature, this might be a temporary measure until that's done, only they know.
  10. A good game dev (like many people ) would tell you "all things in moderation" i.e. all things can be good and bad, and no one way of enjoyment should be overly more (or less) "profitable" to those who do it than another, as I believe Jimmy said HC's goal is (a laudable goal which I support, as an aside). I'm certain that was always Paragon and Cryptic's intent as well, it just doesn't always work out as intended sometimes.
  11. This logic is specific to devs of games who have to look at the health of the ENTIRE PLAYERBASE not just in a vacuum of "what other people do doesn't harm me" that players can do.
  12. As Number Six said above, while the option existed (and turning off XP didn't exist in CoH either until SS went in which Jimmy mentioned--we had to drown ourselves in PILES of XP debt to not outlevel arcs back then...I was one who did, and it was even worse before the debt cap). The knew what they did, yes, but as Six said before, it didn't become as much of an issue UNTIL XP didn't stop at 50, when the vet levels were added, then that exacerbated the INF gain (since you're now still gaining "XP" when level 50s didn't used to) and inflated the market. Least that's my understanding. @Number Six?
  13. That's probably like several hundred instances given some of the--nevermind someone above me said it before I did. CoH is spaghetti code of the finest design. One might even call it...cryptically written. *puts pinky in corner of mouth*
  14. it was not an open server, not accessible to the general public, and those devs are not our current devs to my understanding, you'd have to take it up with them why it wasn't changed then. My guess is, much smaller population (just playing for fun, not trying to run a production game) it was less of an issue.
  15. You are unlikely to "believe" anything that doesn't suit your narrative, like much of the public, I've said my peace on it, you've said yours, anything further simply leads to arguing. The devs have their reasons I'm sure, I can only guess at them, it's not my place to know everything.
  16. I'm well aware of how a lot of it went down, that has little to no bearing on this conversation about this change however.
  17. Way to go missing my entire original point. I said they had limited dev resources. They can only put fingers in so many "pies" at once, and prioritized the most important ones first. The seeding of salvage was a quick and easy measure to hold down the worst of it right away. Getting the game stable and running, working on fleshing out the remaining Paragon powersets, making needed changes and making new art and assets all take time, those were likely more important than immediately fixing this. You'd have to ask Jimmy though, he works here. I'm just going off common sense and knowing how game development works with small teams. Those who want to be angry and butthurt will continue to be, those who see logic will see it.
  18. Exploits do not go into Beta patch notes, for what should be very obvious reasons.
  19. More or less it is. There was no working emulator/private server during Paragon's time. SEGS never actually got anywhere to this day, to my knowledge.
  20. My guess is dev resources were busy...y'know actually making the game work at that point. Please do remember this is a VOLUNTEER team who are not getting paid for this. This should've been done back 15 years ago by Paragon, by your logic (and yes, it should've been).
  21. And a year ago there were ZERO CoH's and there never would be again, and before that there was no alternative to Cryptic/Paragon either.
  22. Alarmist is Alarmist. It wasn't a stealth nerf, it was an exploit. Exploits are specifically not listed in patch notes. My assumption is this has been in the works for a VERY long time, and just happend to be enacted now. This has been an issue since those options went into the game, back on live.
  23. Yes, that's called "game development" every dev team and publisher does it. You just aren't used to it being done again on CoH. Be glad you have a game.
  24. It should have been done years ago on live, honestly. It's more accurate to say "and so it finally ends.".
  25. Got my $15.00 sub fee in for the month! Keep up the good work guys!
