I think the pushback here is the idea that this mission is targeting a woman because she's a woman. As opposed to just using a fairly standard human relationship (male and female) and using that as a basis for the content. I suspect many are skeptical that anyone would be raising flags if the sexes were reversed. Also, regarding race, I beat up ethnic minority Skulls all the time. Is that racist? Or is acceptable because they just so happen to be minorities?

Oh, another one I did was in chat. Someone asked how to change their settings for something. I said "type alt+f4". Twenty seconds later that person chimed back in: "jerk..." I thought it was funny...

I'd like to say that despite my averse reaction to accusations of misogyny with regard to the mission, I do agree the text should say her name rather than "girlfriend," simply because the latter is inaccurate.

Ah, and there it is. I was waiting for the "your opinion is irrelevant" response. I'm reminded of that Snickers ad a couple years back with Roseanne Barr, before all the controversy around her show revival. She's playing a lumberyard worker (really another guy, but because he's hangry they had Roseanne play his snarky self). At one point as part of the comedy of the ad, she gets whacked by a log and knocked over and then lays there in the mud with a stunned expression. Pretty standard slapstick stuff. Then came the cries that the ad glorified violence against women. The mind boggles. Anyway, in before threadlock. I can see we've probably hit peak sophistication in this discussion.

I agree that it needs to be looked at. It's been this way since launch. In the interim you could probably do something like /bind TAB target_enemy_near (which, by default, is what happens with ctrl+tab but that's clumsy). You'd lose the ability to hit tab to cycle through nearby enemies but you could maybe then change ctrl+tab to do that, depending on how often you do that sort of thing.

I think the intention is that you'd be setting the font size for yourself, not for what others see.

With the understanding that asking this question in these forums is going to be subject to self-selection bias, do you still feel the thrill of having CoH back? I certainly do, and by how busy Atlas Park and other "core" zones get, I suspect that's true for many, many people. One thing I have noticed is the peak numbers don't seem to be going up much any more. A few weeks ago sometimes it'd go over 9,000, but lately it seems to be peaking in the high 7,000s. Maybe that's just everything being stable?

I agree. The game overall has a font size issue. Given its lack of attention, I suspect in some way the font sizes aren't easily-accessible variables. I mean, I love CoH's aesthetic but whoever thought up the idea of gradient text for the chat window needs to be taken out back and "re-educated."

Nothing in CoH but one thing I did in WoW (which I'm sure isn't terribly uncommon). I was in Tanaris leveling away on a PvP server. Out of nowhere a Horde rogue stunlocks and kills me. Basically my level, it was a fair kill, and normally I'd just grit my teeth and move on. But I had been on the receiving end of a seemingly unending chain of ganks that day. So I logged out, logged back in with my lv70, or whatever the max was, ported over to Tanaris, found the rogue, and killed him. He logged off but not before /shaking his head at me. I continued leveling in peace. Not the world's douchiest move but not really fair play.

Has anyone gotten demodump or demodumptga to work from within the demo console? I can get the demo to play but the dump commands... they do nothing!

If you do lock it, please first consider the takeaway that it would be cool to expand on slider ranges. For any anatomical whosiwhatsits.

Humans are tribal creatures. No matter how hard we try to be otherwise, the temptation to cast social interactions as "us vs. them" is insanely strong. It's basically hardwired in. Add in any level of squick -- including fully imaginary -- and that temptation is irresistible.

So I had a disquieting thought. NCSoft seems to not know what to do with the CoH IP. They tried launching their own version with City of Hero and it was a dud. They closed down CoH because it's just not really their thing. They appear to be aware of this and the other private servers, but they're not (so far) doing anything about it. But Homecoming hit 100,000 players last week, which, IIRC, is 1/2 to 1/3 the size of the peak live playerbase. Superheroes are still big in Hollywood, and if there was ever a time for a AA superhero MMO to hit the market, it's now. What if NCSoft is letting Homecoming run without harassment to build up the value of the IP so they can sell it to some other developer? Like I said, they don't seem to want it themselves. But if they could drop it for a few hundred mil or even a billion, they might do that. Then the new owner would almost certainly come down on these servers as infringing on their new investment. I hope I'm way off base with this...

Most modern forum software allows for the embedding of videos (such as YT) using the [VIDEO] wrapper. Is this something this forum allows but is just not enabled? I suspect with presets like "marquee" and "ftp link" this software is pretty old, so maybe it's just not an option.

In a broader sense (no pun intended) I would love for the scale sliders to revert to where they were when introduced in Issue 4. Back then you could create almost anime-esque super-deformed characters. I'm not sure when they reined that back in but I miss it.

It's not like the alts would need to "be there" when no one's in the base. So really they're just more furniture for when someone is. I don't see how it would add to server load. The obstacles are probably more code-based. I like the idea, it sounds like fun.
