They actually heal themselves. A pretty good heal too.

Hard to say. I've only got 3 attacks now (I skipped Burst and M30). Will have a better feel once I get to 20 or 30.
Would love feedback when you do. I personally have heard folks say they might not take Aura of Insanity/Madness, whever it is for Sents....because they don't get into melee. but having used it on a stalker, I can't see taking the set without it, it really is a great bit of mitigation and a keystone. For AR, with all the range/cones, I suspect Aura may not get much play unless mobbed by critters, and that to me is a shame.

Went with AR/Psi. It's for a static weekly team and we got to lvl 13 in the first session running DFB and Posi 1.
As stated up top, I wanted to AR since I hadn't played it since live. Plus I've already got Rad/Rad and Elec/Bio sentinels.
Ack, sorry I missed that. Are you enjoying it so far then?

Great thread. And I have to offer my support for the opinion that the homecoming team does a stellar job in providing a stable environment overall for the game. Honestly I note very little difference between the game I play now and the game I played under live, and in fact in many ways the game is better on homecoming than it was under live. Thank you.

Psi is great. I think it really shines only if you get into melee with AoI. Might go well with Radiation Blast or DP is you don't go with Electric Blast.
I love SR. It's perfect on sentinels. Endurance mod. Ablative absorb, recharge. Speed. Built in stats protection. The only negative is the powers for AOE take a little long to come online. But that's a minor quibble.
-
I really love my Fire/SR/ice sentinel. Great damage, tough, some controls, visual appeal, just a nice smooth play experience.

@Troo I agree, I can't argue what your experience (or that of others') may be. It is what it is and it's valid, for you.
What I meant by leveling through incarnates, as @JediDave suggested, that it's not about having billion inf builds, its about the playtime between my Illusion/Rad, Gravity/Dark and Plant/Nature and finding Plant to be as competitive and useful as the other two builds. It means I took the time using some other very powerful builds to have a fair comparison, in my opinion and experience. In all the years I've been in CoH I've never heard anyone complain about Plant being less than upper tier. If anything, Plant has consistently ranked high in performance on these forums (not sure about live, I don't recall specific posts there), but it leaned heavily on proc'd creepers and Seeds of Confusion to do so. We all knew those were likely targets over the years for an adjustment - and it finally came.
If they simply nerfed Seeds and Creepers and didn't adjust anything else, it would indeed, IMO, make Plants more mid-tier (B or C rank). But they didn't.
- They adjusted Spores to be Deep Sleep which is AMAZING. You can really keep things down even with incoming damage from things like Creepers.
- Audrey (Fly Trap) is now fairly beefy, and has a few attacks to cycle, and does so more intelligently and is actually really helpful for single target DPS now that you can control her and it speeds up the weakness of plant, which was ST damage (plant was always pretty good for AOE for many reasons).
- Spirit Tree now acts as a pocket tank. A great opener. Also a great way to rescue friends. It's regeneration and toughness make it virtually impossible to kill under most circumstances, effectively making it function like a no-damage Phantom Army that doesn't demand ridiculous amounts of recharge. And unlike PA, it doesn't go running off to aggro other groups lol
- Vines is now also a very functional 4-slot Basilisk Set hold for all occasions. Groups, single targets, it adapts as the other AOE holds to. Nicely done.
I'm not sure what else to say. These days there are no bad Controller sets. Everything is pretty much performing at A rank or so. Again, you are welcome to have a different opinion. It was just that hearing about Plants being sub par BEFORE the last patch was kind of like hearing that Illusion was a poor performer. I just had to scratch my head. Mind? Sure. Ice (before its rework)? Sure. But Plant? Seriously, took me by surprise based on feedback read/seen/heard over the last 6 years.
FWIW, since I'm still offering options, here is how I'd rank Controller primaries these days based on team function, control, damage, solo ability, ease of use:
S TIERThere are none. None are so superior to the others they outshine them. Every set has its strengths and weaknesses
A TIER
Darkness
Electric
GravityIce
IllusionMind
Plant
Pyrotechnic
SymphonyB TIER (and all of these just barely fit in B, and could easily be A...)
Arsenal - if you can manage ALL THE BUTTONS and ground targets lol, bump it to A 😉
Earth - light on damage until you can proc things. If you don't care about damage, it's A tier
Fire Control - hot feet needs a rework to less END; Bonfire needs a KB rework (opinion, I know)
Just my 2 INF. You all have a great day no matter what controller you choose to drive. We have LOTS of fun options and so many underperforming sets/powers have been adjusted IMO very well. I love controllers, we're in such a good place overall compared to live.

Well, to each their own.
Melee bow use? Zen master. Heck, it's even a think in D&D. No less immersion breaking to have someone so awesome (Legolas?) they can use a bow in melee than it is to have a martial arts masters who can go toe to toe with Lusca or Lord Recluse?-

ehhh...
Not necessarily for the average player which I think was @Tankshock's point. Yes the power set could be leveraged to be powerful with the required knowledge and funding.
I'm an average player. It was still a very powerful set pre-patch, compared to my incarnated Gravity and Illusion controllers. I didn't even proc out Carrion Creepers. Plant was just that good. And still is. Just in different ways. I'm sure better players than me could do more with it in-game, but I certainly felt it was top ranked in my opiniontm

Hi @Uun Just because I'm a stickler for details, can you amend the quote you had for me to reflect that was not my comment: "The taunt is pointless with it that was the job of the Creepers", as that is not my quote that belongs to ExeErdna. I love the new Spirit Tree and its taunt, but I don't wish to be confused with ExeErdna who is clearly not speaking anywhere close to baseline controller knowledge (at least as far as Plant goes). Many thanks.

Spirit Tree unironically got nerfed because you could have enough recharge to drop 2 of them. The taunt is pointless with it that was the job of the Creepers. Spore Burst is still a skip, Vines is better now yet very limited still. Fly Trap is still just too frail of a pet. It wasn't S tier on it's own it's was a C tier set with a consistent confusion proc and the best psudeopet. Besides that the set wasn't good unless paired with a strong secondary like Nature, Dark, Cold, Storm... It was always the secondary that made Plant amazing. The only great thing about the patch is being able to SEE where the Creeper is now
This is the first time I've ever heard anyone complain about pre patch Plant Control.
