I went Pyro/Rad and it's working great. I took everything from Pyro and half of Radiation (the two toggles, Lingering Radiation, and Mutation), and could fit a bunch of utility pool powers for fun.

Does way more damage than I expected. That's when I figured out Brilliant Barrage and Glittering Column were doing lots of damage and reslotted them to do more.

    Fun set!

Ultimately this is what I went with too, rad is a great secondary and visually complements pyro well too

Literally Just Magic™️ which worked out better after I modded all the sounds and animations! 😆

I find Marine to be very busy set... and Pyro is a bit busy IMO... are the two together even busier than I imagine?  As much as I loved Arsenal/Trick Arrow, it was a beast to just use the plethora of abilities!

  3. Hi fellows,

Now that pyrotechnics had been out for a few weeks ... I'd love to hear some thoughts on pairings with various secondaries.

I've tried /Rad, /dark, and /time and I enjoy them all, very familiar with them.... But indecision is generating interest in others' opinions. Thoughts, experiences, meta gaming?

  4. Yeah, I might reroll my Plant/Nature into something else depending on what goes Live and if I can live with it. Don't get me wrong, I loved most of the changes but I was a bit sad for my Plantroller from reading. Don't have the time for /test so I'll rely on the big boys and girls to give feedback from actual test play. Ty in advance.

  5. I remember this. When the shut down happened, and I had no access to CoH (sorry, was NOT one of the kool kids on the secret server), I was sad. Very sad. It was a real loss for me as this game really scratches an itch none other did, and the community was fantastic. I *Still* prefer COH HC to ANY actual MMO still running today. And then...it was back....and better than ever (yes, the HC changes were, for the most part, a better QOL addition than live), and also surprising, the community retained its awesome character.

So I remember, that I never loved everything the Live team did, either.

So I remember, that CoH was once a memory, a pleasant bit of history.

But now it is here. And I can play it. All the parts I love. With this great community. I can fly, be free, and do something heroic (or villainous) and unleash that inner nerd once more.

Not saying anyone is wrong, just saying I remember the big picture and I'm 99% pleased with HC 99% of the time when I keep it all in line.

    Fly on heroes, fly on.

  6. Illusion/Traps - so versatile, very different playstyle, a bit better solo than on teams due to the nature of /traps being mostly immobile and longer-ish recharge; but you also build for recharge for illusion, which helps traps though, so when recharge is built up, even on teams some of your traps are always useful and up for the next group or every other group. Plus teleport to move them around. This build excels at moving ahead of the pack, not trailing behind.

Illusion/Rad - versatile, works well doing anything, really - lacks some of the tricks and damage of /Traps but is easier/cheaper to build for recharge, a tad bit more group friendly than traps. Lovely lovely AOE hold toggle in /Rad. Proc it for effectiveness and stacking Hold on bosses. Same as /nature.

Plant/nature - as I said, king of AoE, solid support set, really shines in groups. Very thematic.

Plant/Marine - about as good as nature, maybe a smidge better for damage and buffs, but its really apples and oranges. Theme is strong here. Go Leviathan.

Gravity/Dark - Strong single target damage, best pet ever, combined with a fantastic dark fluffy in /Dark, you get the whole package except a bit light on AOE, but you can proc bomb the stun if you like, add in incarnates, epics and temp powers, you're fine. Super safe. Feels stronk.

Arsenal/TA - kind of like a controllery Rambo build. Lots of damage potential, not enough keys, so make sure you keybind lol. You are the swiss knife/tool kit/boy scout kit. Great for a gadgeteer!

These are the ones I have and are familiar with. I would recommend them to any who want  a controller.

    Best budget controller: Gravity/Dark.

    Best newbie controller: Plant/Nature.
