MagicalAct Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Kind of a fun one, although I'm not entirely set on the name. Chemical-Man Poison/Ice defender, who can change his body to produce chemical compounds on the fly. Compound and Mixture were already taken, and went through Chemicool and Chem Mist before just settling on Chemical-Man for now. 8 1

temnix Posted November 7 Posted November 7 (edited) Here are five more characters from me. These are the older ones. Some of my characters have a spare costume I called "party clothes" at first, because those costumes were meant for Pocket D and other places to socialize and have fun. When I realized how little partying went on in that lonely place (and everywhere), I began calling them "civilian clothes." The characters switch to them from the "combat clothes" when traveling through cities or passing through those cooperative areas. Some characters becames clotheshorses as I used their spare costume slots to design new dress, even though they don't wear it. Zay Spoiler Zay "An adventurer." Zay was the second character I made after coming back to CoH and the first one I really played. I wanted to make a naked woman, but it turned out to be difficult, as Cryptic et al had tried their hardest to keep their Pee-Wee rating. It is simpler to imitate nudity with unnatural skin colors like white or black. Still, she stands well in her own. I remember it was especially difficult to give her bare legs seamless with the rest of the texture. I prefer my characters barefoot, though not so many actually are. Here the choice was between an obviously heeled Body Suit continuation and a lower Overguard, in favor of which I finally settled. Because of that there is a small borderline across her calf. The following snapshots are from the police precinct where she had just earned her Law Enforcer badge. A ninja jump! Those stains are there because I wanted her to be dirty as well as naked. Thoughts Zay fighting Zay at rest April Hope Spoiler The Brilliant April Hope Neu Woman "An one-time spouse of another super, the infamous private eye Jody "Shoddy" Schlocke, April Hope is responsible for pushing him to a life of vigilantism with her expensive habits. Upon Shoddy's disappearance mounting amenities bills made her try her manicured hand at several professions. Discovering that she was good both with guns and the brush, she charted the course of her future between the constellations of fighting and painting, both under her maiden name." I felt hope in April, and she sprang out of my head. I got lucky several times with her main costume and the extras. She has no secondary costume to switch to in-character, but she has become a clotheshorse for other designs. All of them wear her face, and all have different gun models. By the way, in case someone from Homecoming is reading this: will you please pass it on to the rest of your team that they need to stop ignoring obvious enormous bugs in the game and fix the one that makes the appearance of guns in Dual Pistols rest to Semi-Auto in both the drawn and the holstered mode every time the character goes for an appearance tweak? It is way annoying and obvious like the nose on my face. I reported the bug in April, though it is hard to believe it was unknown before, and it is still there, like so many others. April's first staredown A spark in Kings Row I landed on these wires by accident, but once you are up here, you might as well exercise. Or perhaps panhandle. A good view. Action girl! (Martial Arts is the support set.) On this screenshot it looks as if she is about to betray this NPC. Around town: cracking the atom... April and the watermelon In the tunnels of the Trolls On a boat Left gun: black-and-white Right gun: white-and-black April's second staredown Costume 2: "Thistle" Fate or not With Hellions (I have posted this one already, but why not?) Costume 3: "China" A little clipping with the shirt. Costume 4: "Auburn" What she needs is a little tote bag. Costume 5: "Hudson" Looking for a good time? We can deal. Up about town. Bonus: a nameless costume I intended as party clothes. The Panzercrator Spoiler The Mighty Panzercrator (subtitle pending) "He began as an artificial intelligence in charge of an automated assembly factory on the Earth-Mars midpoint orbit. Early in the 23rd century this industrial plant had been intended to supply the two growing colonies on Mars and the recently established outpost on Jupiter's Io. It performed excellently for a decade, but, unfortunatately for the United Nations, its digital manager chanced upon a bootleg collection of data on human culture: arts, history, philosophy and more. Imbued with a new dignity derived half from Aristotelian doctrines of the polis and half from democratic ideas of the Age of Enlightenment, it commandeered a shuttle to embark on a new, independent existence in a body pieced together from available parts. Thus the story began, but it would take a Rikti patrol ship, the Portal Corporation, time-hopping Menders of Ouroboros, applied chemistry and a crew of street hooligans in need of a better way for it to start unfolding in a meaningful direction." I SHALL INTRODUCE MYSELF IN MY IDIOM. TREMBLE AND REJOICE. I DO NOT WISH TO CAUSE ALARM WHEN I WALK AMONG YOU, THEREFORE IN DENSELY POPULATED AREAS I DON CIVILIAN CLOTHES TO "BLEND IN." THIS DISGUISE IS 97.8% IMPENETRABLE. THE FOLLOWING ILLUSTRATIONS WILL FEATURE ME IN MY ORIGINAL APPEARANCE. THE WEIGHT OF MY BODY IS CONSIDERABLE... TO AVOID DAMAGE TO PAVEMENT, I MOVE ABOUT IN A FUTURISTIC VEHICLE (SPECIFICALLY, THESE WILL BE INVENTED AROUND 2180 A. D.) A FULL FRONTAL EXPOSURE. NOTE THAT THIS BODY USES THE MOST "MUSCULAR" VERSION OF THE "HUGE" MODEL, YET A FLATTENED CHEST. COMBINED WITH THE LONGEST AVAILABLE LEGS, THE RESULTING SILHOUETTE IS RELATIVELY ELEGANT RATHER THAN HEAVY. ALSO OBSERVE HOW CERTAIN ASYMMETRIES IN MY ASSEMBLY CONTRIBUTE TO A LESS FORMAL AND MORE CONVINCING LOOK: THE SHOULDER PIECES ARE DISSIMILAR IN MODEL AND TINT, THE FOREARMS ARE LIKEWISE OF DIFFERENT MODEL AND COLOR, THE FEET ARE OF DIFFERENT COLOR BUT THE SAME MODEL (THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE WAS AN INCONGRUOUSLY OVERSIZED "LARGE" ROBOTIC FOOT). THE BELT STRAPS... (CONT. NEXT IMAGE) (CONT. FROM PREVIOUS IMAGE) ...ARE FUNCTIONAL AND HOLD THIS DEVICE, AGAIN OF A DISTINCT TINT. SLIGHT ASYMMETRIES ARE A FREQUENTLY HELPFUL TOOL TO MAKE AN APPEARANCE MORE NUANCED AND REALISTIC, HOWEVER, NOT ALL APPEARANCE OPTIONS ARE COMPLIANT. THE HEAD IS ALMOST THE SMALLEST POSSIBLE, YET THE FOREHEAD WAS SOMEWHAT ELEVATED TO AVOID A STUPID LOOK. THE "RADIOACTIVE" PAINT PATTERN EMPHASIZES THE SEVERITY OF FEATURES BUT IS NOT A HEALTH HAZARD. MY EXISTENCE ON THIS PLANET AT THIS AGE IS MARKED BY FREQUENT VIOLENCE TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE. YET IT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO DELIVER UPRAISING, EDUCATIONAL INSTRUCTION. THESE FORMER DELINQUENTS, WHOSE NUMBER, I HOPE, WILL INCREASE, STUDY MANY SUBJECTS: FROM THE CLASSICS OF WORLD LITERATURE... TO APPLIED CHEMISTRY... ...AND FINE MANNERS. THAT SAID, THIS IS WHAT WE WILL DO TO THE ENEMIES OF PROGRESS. I REMAIN FAITHFULLY YOURS, THE PANZERCRATOR Willing Pariah Spoiler Willing Pariah City official "A woman who belongs on the streets now - and to them." Dark night of the soul The sunrise has always brought hope - and perhaps today it will too. A wanderer at the gates of dawn In her dream aspect as the Warrior of Joy I have also used her spare costume slot to make another costume, one she will never wear, - a costume for parties. This one is a sheer exercise in style. Sallow Evangel Spoiler Sallow Evangel "It is a low-clearance secret that humans have colonized outer space long ago. "Colonized" here means that colonies have been founded, starting with the famous Moon Base. Hurray! Yet the Milky Way galaxy, to say nothing of the rest of infinity, by no means belongs to earthlings, and sometimes they end up belonging to someone else. So it happened to Astrix-121, the Orion space station, picked up and swallowed with all of its 130,000 inhabitants by a passing Maw ship of the Hileys. Who are the Hileys? Perhaps they will reach Earth one day, and then they are sure to become a household name. In any case, this dour, taciturn and not-too-young man was the leader of the rebellion inside the ship, and after all others have been processed survived for months in the steel intestines of its belly on the strength of his two blaster guns before he found a chance to jettison. He managed to magnet-clamp the pod to a patrol destroyer returning to Earth orbit, where he shrugged, crashed the boat and joined the heroes." This is one of the characters I'm not going to play. The world of CoH is too small for him. As far as clothes go, I tried spicing up this outfit with touches of gark blue, dark red, gray, as I would usually do to avoid monotony, but it only worked in sheer black. So I kept it that way, underscoring how unrealistic that is and appropriating the effect. Not helpless. I welcome you, luscious and easy world! I read books. This planet is unprepared... temnix Posted November 7 Posted November 7 @biostem Rose Alloy does look good. The triangle of rose, turquoise and black does it. But I don't see the rationale for that particular mantle. I think you could have chosen something that would cling to the figure or the concept closer.

Her name is "Rose Alloy" because she's got metallic skin, which is a reddish-pinkish color, nothing more.
biostem Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I was trying to make a Belmont-inspired costume, and since I can't quite buck the trend...
Hatecube Posted November 8 Posted November 8 Hey all, Decided to do something different.. I've been using the circle of thorns kilt a lot. So, Here is D I S G U S T my ss/regen brute! Let me know what u think! Ty all. 1 2
temnix Posted November 8 Posted November 8 @biostem No, that costume was good. Only the Field mantle stood out. But I see that you are not spending time to develop these concepts, only throwing them here as they come. Plus, you can't carry over a detail that worked in one place, like the metallic skin, to a completely different combination and expect it to keep its value. But at least you have some imagination. The brown coat and steaming backpack on this last one remind me of my Lucienne that I posted above. Probably an accident. @Hatecube This one really needs a closer view, and turn him so those Longbow aren't messing up the background... The Lanterns aura has always mystified me. I could never understand what it is supposed to represent. A question to everybody, by the way: why do we get one white pixel on bottom of every screenshot? It happens to me, and I can see that thin white line here. It has to be cut off every time a screenshot is prepared. 1

For me, I generally come up with a look I like, then try to associate powers to that look that I think fit said look, but only then, if I enjoy how everything came together, do I really delve into the character's backstory/biography. In the few instances where I have a concept fleshed out ahead of time, does the look tend to come about more easily.

biostem Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Just now, Jawbreaker said: Pointing to where the warmth starts? *** Don't make a joke about water blast or marine affinity *** 1
temnix Posted November 9 Posted November 9 (edited) Marine Affinity is doomed to jokes. Anything about fish, in any game, is dead in the water. @Hatecube That's better, but blurry and I still can't make out what you did with the right hand. Just zoom in. @biostem What I mean is that since you are just tossing together combinations of parts that look impressive one way or another and don't try to decide what would make a particular look perfect to fine-tune it, there is no point in discussing them. People can click those reaction buttons, they are the lazy man's reply, give you a cup even, but that is as far as it goes. They can say "Pink metallic skin works"... I don't start out with character concepts too, but I either follow my desires in creating what will please me the best or the character creates him/herself, demanding changes until he/she reaches an integral appearance. Meanwhile a concept also forms with a choice of powers. Sometimes all this is upleasantly self-directed and I turn away from a logic path to avoid ending up with perfect characters that are of no interest to me whatsoever, or I buck the trend and push in the opposite direction where, after all, they will mean something to me. But in the end, with the exception of a few sets of "party clothes," I have to want to play what results or he/she will not be worth the effort of tuning up. If by the last screen I do want to play him/her and want to go back to bring his/her appearance up to my standards, then I have ended up with a story already, though in words it may just be "An adventurer." There is nothing wrong with dishing out incomplete ideas like you are doing, but nothing much to say about them either. Edited November 9 by temnix 1 1
