Tips for Radiation Armor/Fiery Melee/Energy Mastery

Hey all.  I've been bouncing around different character concepts and ATs for a while now, not really finding something I genuinely love to play.  Lately I've been getting really interested in the recent talks about Tankers, and not only is it fun to not die, I'm interested in how their AoE is going to be improved even further soon.

A character concept I've been trying to make work makes use of either Breath of Fire or Fire Breath, which tends to be skipped in almost every Fire build on every AT, except Tanker.  Unless I'm mistaken, Breath of Fire will benefit from the AoE increase being tossed around in the Beta servers right now.

So this new character concept I have in mind has a few key (non negotiable) thematic powers, being Breath of Fire and Laser Beam Eyes.  I'm going for an old-timey Kaiju inspired character.  I don't really care for the power effects of Fiery Aura and understand that it trades defense for damage.  I like the idea of Radiation Armor having a few AoE attacks while also having some good resistance.  Aside from the powers mentioned earlier I'm pretty flexible in terms of Power Pools and specific power choices.  Travel power wise, my preference is almost always Flight.  I almost always take Hasten in every build as, from what I can tell, every build benefits from it.  Taking Fighting is a no-brainer as well, especially for Rad Armor, which can benefit from Weave's +DEF (from what I can tell on Pines, Rad is a primarily Resistance oriented set with little native Defense).

I'd love to give a Rad/Fire/Energy Tanker with a Mutation origin a try, so I'm wondering if any Tanker experts have any tips?  I like the damage type variety it outputs and its AoE potential without being as frail as Fiery Aura.  I'm concerned about the lack of Defense.  I'm sure IOs will be pivotal in meeting those softcaps.

Edit:  To clarify, this build isn't meant specifically for efficient farming, but all-purpose gameplay including solo and team play.

I have a /fire tanker and a radiation/ tanker, they're different characters.

With Radiation you will want the whole set.  Slot up your heals and your debuffs.  Having a power that heals the whole team instead of just you is nice.   And you can get good mileage from cheap IO sets.

Fire on a tanker has several solid AoE attacks, so Fire Breath may be skippable,  You'll have choices to make on whether you want your character to have swords or not.  I recommend the swords.  You'll at least want Fire Sword Circle.

Whar Fire lacks is control.  Especially if you're a flyer I recommend picking up Air Superiority to knock that Sapper onto his fundament.

Fire Breath is part of the theme, so that one I'm keeping.  Also I'm building for a No-Swords character, here.  So while Fire Sword Circle is a great ability mechanically, it doesn't fit the concept at all.  I understand this isn't ideal, but I build for theme first and then min/max after the fact.  One thing I did overlook is Air Superiority, which would be a good idea for someone who generally leans towards Fly/Hover.  Thank you.

Though I do love and plan to take every power in Radiation Armor.  Great resists as well as the team heal and the debuffs.

I run Rad/Fire all the time, skipping the "swords" for thematic reasons if fine, but does take away damage out put from the set. Since you're going "swordless" Incinerate is going to be your big attack. So, I'd slot the rest of the build for recharge so you can spam that attack. You might also look at putting damage procs in Consume (or the whole Winter-O, it has a chance for KD and adds some control to your attacks), -Resist Proc in Irradiated Ground From Fury of the Gladiator (maybe even the damage one from Lady Grays).

I appreciate it!  Not sure what Tanker I'll end up playing but Rad/Fire sounds pretty cool.

Always love looking at your builds.  I don't see Build Up in there.  Is it not all that useful for a Tanker?

Always love looking at your builds.  I don't see Build Up in there.  Is it not all that useful for a Tanker?

It can be.  The main problem is that ALL the powers in Rad Armor are good.  So that leads to power crunch.
Especially when you're trying to max out Resists.

If you want to be godlike, pick anything.

If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!

On my radiation armor tanker I skipped the tier 9 and I don't really find that I miss it. I understand it is a fairly nice power, but you can be plenty tough enough with it. One thing I do find on radiation armor is having particle shielding on auto click is a major bonus to your survival.

If you have Meltdown there isn't really much call for Buildup; it does more for you.  I generally consider powers called 'Buildup' skippable on tankers; they are all pretty samey, don't last very long, and the interesting ones will be called something else, like Rage.  You probably have a red and a yellow small inspiration somewhere.  Skipped it on my fire/shield, and that one is a DPS tanker.

Yeah, I agree. Given the present damage scalar of tankers and the duration of build up, I never take it. Rage, yes you take, fiery embrace, yes you take (for fire melee), but otherwise, meh.
