Tina the Support Fortunata!

So I've been playing a lot of Troop Leader Tina, and I found her old build. I don't recall who helped me with it (I'm bad at building... I don't know the basics such as permahaste, AT caps, etc)

I felt like showing it off and getting some pointers, if possible. And yes, she has no travel power. It's kind of a concept build, but it functioned pretty well in the past despite some end problems. Still, I will take any suggestions! Hopefully this will post. I've been having issues posting this for some reason with some EX0 error...

👀 hey u (its rdum)

 

There's lots of ways to build fortunatas and there's no clear line between "improving a build" and "changing the concept" - that said I see a number of places where slots could be put to better use:

- IMO Combat Training: Offensive can be skipped - between mind link, TT: leadership, set bonuses, and standard accuracy slotting, this power is probably unnecessary

- You can save a slot in Hasten by using 2 50+5 IOs

- Dominate is best slotted IMO with 5-6 damage procs (last slot acc/dam or acc/mez)

- Mask Presence doesn't have a very large defense bonus or endurance cost so I'd 1 slot it with LoTG and call it a day

- Tough could actually use some more res slotting

- Weave you can probably also get by with a single LoTG or drop completely

- Vengeance doesn't need 5 slots (again I'd do LoTG and call it a day)

- You don't need the 5% melee defense from the expensive winter set in Psi Wail and the rest of the bonuses aren't so hot - this could be Armageddon w/ the fury of the gladiator -res proc

- Similarly 6-slotting TT:leadership to get the 2.5% def to all is not the best return on investment since you have defense to spare - id' go gaussian proc and a tohit/end

- Dark Obliteration should probably be 6 slotted

- IMO darkest night is unnecessary given that you're already bringing +30% defense (TT:maneuvers + mind link) but maybe it's there for concept

- Mental Blast is not a great place for the decimation proc since it has such a short cooldown - pretty low proc chance

 

What could you do with the powers and slots that you free up? many options, some good ones IMO would be...

- combat jumping

- travel power

- subdue to fill out your ST attack chain (and subdue rocks)

- gloom to fill out your ST attack chain (gloom also rocks)

 

the good news is that you've got defense and recharge to spare (permahasten and perma mind link and excellent defenses even without incarnate powers) so you've got a lot of room to play with

Thanks for the tips! Been awhile since I've seen ya too. I noticed that if I wanted a travel power, I'd have to give up foresight (I can probably do without it anyway, yeah?).  Anyway, gonna see if I can get something churned out now... Thanks again. 🙂

 

EDIT: Oooor I can just take out Weave and pick up Foresight there, as you said. It'll save up on end drain.

EDIT 2: Having issues with getting slots into Dark Obliteration... Only allowing up to four. I've got the dumb and don't know how to proceed. Trying to use my small brain to get through this...

My god what am I doing? I still have slots left but I can't put them where I want them to. I know I messed up somewhere with the IOs too. I'm trying so hard. Sorry for the double post.

I haven't opened the build yet (on mobile) but Machariel gave lots of good advice. I think I can explain your slotting issue though. The slots you've freed up are too low level to put into Dark Obliteration (in Mids, although the game allows it when respecing). When levelling up you would have used them before you got Dark Obliteration, but when you respec the game doesn't care about that. Dark Oblit is taken at lvl 49, and then only 3 lvl 50 slots are available. Unfortunately I don't know an easy solution to this in Mids, maybe others do. One workaround would be to take Dark Oblit earlier (say at lvl 42) and slot it correctly, then put Foresight in at lvl 49, but you'd only be doing this in Mids so you can see the correct spotting and bonuses. Mids will let you do this although it will show Dark Oblit in red for taking it before Gloom. In game you would take the powers in the correct order and still be able to slot how you want them. Hopefully someone else knows a better solution than this workaround though.

What you have to do is place the lower level slot somewhere.  I used boxing.  Then, grab the lower level slot and move it over one of the high level slots in Dark Oblit.  The slot levels swap places when you do this.  Mids will "gray out" the slot in DO, but it is still there and works.  I did this twice in DO.  Then, I removed the slots from Boxing (both level 50), and I could now place those two into DO.

I did the same thing for a 5th slot in Soul Tentacles, thinking you might want a 5th Pos.Blast for the recharge bonus.

Thank you for the tip. I still am having trouble despite what you told me though. It only goes up to 46, and I did dump slots into DO right at the start (derp). I'm starting to wonder if I should redo this and slot a bit more carefully. Minor inconvenience, but I don't mind it. I'm going to see if I can wrap my head around this and try to get Mids to work with me and save some time first, though, but the only slot levels I'm getting is 43-46... I know my tiny brain brain is missing something in your description, or I'm just not getting it at all. I tried removing some from DO and ST, but uh, that didn't work out either, and I'm pretty sure DO could do with a better damage set...

 

Mids is one crazy, mysterious program... I've never gotten used to it, but I'm trying. Again, thanks for the tip! I'm sorry for my incompetence, but I'll keep trying to fix this. If I can't then I can just rebuild from the get go and slot more carefully.

EDIT: Oof... So the only way I could get DB fully slotted was to switch which level I got it at. Gloom only has Two slots, though. This is kinda frustrating... My brain is melting.

The copy I attached in the spoiler tag already had slots moved into ST and DO, couldn't you just use that?

Might I be so bold as to state that with the current state of the game (temp travel powers, mission porters, etc), its no longer necessary to have a travel power. In fact, I usually level up a toon with the temp flight power from P2W so I play/test with more powers earlier on. Ninja Run for example is a P2W option and it a very suitable (slightly slower) alternative to SS and SJ.

I still use travel powers on some toons but it's mostly SS because I like to jaust baddies hehe

I found you can simply switch the higher level power with the level 1 skills, then slot and switch back. I've found the build numbers still reflecting properly after using this method (not that this was a concern).

Apologies for necro-post, but in the event someone Googles this looking for a solution:

 

In the Slots menu, Choose Slots>Auto-Arrange All Slots.

 

Mids will re-number the levels of all the slots from L1 onward and free up all the unassigned ones. This will allow you to slot freely in Mids' without the slots you are trying to assign being level-locked. Of course the game respec interface doesn't care.

 

If you are trying to produce an exact leveling build (so you need specific set bonuses to kick in at specific level break points) click on Dynamic to switch to Level-Up mode before building.
