Kin/Rad Farm Build

I've been looking for a build that I can use to buff a farm group. I don't much care about personal damage, obviously, but I'd like to be able to do two things:

 

1 - Pull my own weight (meaning be useful to the group)

2 - Not die (which seems to be a recurring problem for me in fire farms)

 

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't "fire farm", but there are a few things you can do to manage aggro better.

 

#1 Why a Defender specifically? If you are trying to be useful while not worrying about doing damage, consider making a Controller instead.

I believe an Illusion / Kinetic controller would suit your needs nicely. You can run superior Invisibility to avoid aggro while moving around. You can use Phantom Army to spot manage aggro and deal damage. You have access to all of the nice Kinetic powers, so that shouldn't be a problem. 

 

Now, as a controller you can also access the Fire Mastery epic pool. So you can get protection from fire, single target & AoE attacks and a self rez (taking the burden off of teammates). I would also highly recommend taking the Sorcery pool. Spirit Ward is a great way to assist the tank/brute as it does not generate aggro on you at all. Mystic Flight is nice and Rune of Protection is great for personal survival if you need to get in close. Stay away from Enflame though, all of that damage gets attributed to you, so you get the aggro.

 

Then there is the standard Tactics/Assault/Maneuvers from Leadership. If you really want a second self rez, you can dig down to Unrelenting in the Presence pool. You can afford to do quirky things like that since the build is oriented around primarily using Kinetic powers.

I have a controller as well, but to me the pets are too autonomous and tend to aggro other groups, which I'd prefer not to be responsible for. Also, defender buff numbers are slightly higher, which I appreciate.

Here is a build for survivablity ,it assumes the farm teammates only need damage/speed buffs. It is 44% fire/cold defense 43% energy/negative defense,with Agility Incarnate you will be over soft-cap defense. Range defense is 47%.

Unfortunately fire resistance is only  51% so you would need some orange Insps. However Smashing/Lethal Resistance is over cap at around 80%

All in All,I would think it would fair well in a fire farm as well as regular content. 

Incarnate powers can help fill resistance gap later on.

 

Now the really bad news,it will cost a fair bit.Building for fire defense is expensive for obvious reasons.

If you're building only for fire farming, you're normally looking to slot Winter sets (Melee, Hold, Target AE, PBAoE, Ranged, Travel) and Aegis. Since Flame Mastery gives you a resist toggle for Fire, a Hold and a Melee Attack, it's near perfect.

 

The 5 standard Winter sets will give you +27.5% Fire/Cold Defense and +30% Fire/Cold Resist. Each 2-slot Travel set will give you another +3.75% Fire/Cold Resist (Speed Boost and Inertial Reduction are both travel powers). Each 3-slot Aegis will give you +3.13% Fire/Cold Defense. Fire Shield itself will give you ~40% Fire Resist once slotted. You get +6% universal defense from the two Resist uniques (Steadfast Protection, Gladiator's Armor).

 

The 5 standard Winter sets can slot into Greater Fire Sword, Char, Atomic Blast, Neutron Bomb and Neutrino Bolt.

 

Since Weave will give us ~7% universal Defense and Maneuvers will give us ~5% once slotted, that's 7 + 5 + 27.5 + 3.13 + 3.13 = 45.76% Fire/Cold Defense if we put Aegis into two of Tough, Increase Density and Fire Shield.

 

We've got 30% Fire/Cold from Winter Sets, another 40% from Fire Shield. Slot Speed Boost and Inertial Reduction for for Winter's Gift's and you're at the Resist hard cap for Fire.

 

Transfusion will be able to heal whatever dribbles get through your soft-capped Defense/hard-capped Resist.

How about you do amazing damage yourself and put the whole team to the cap too?

 

Fire/Kin corruptor built for fire farming, softcapped to fire, max res to fire, and 202% global recharge. You will hit the recharge and damage cap often.

If you are going to spend all that inf on winter sets for a fame support defender, why not just make a /Fire Brute yourself ? You would contribute to faster map clears much more if you can go down one way down the caves while the other brute goes the other. Not to mention that you can take him out for a ride when your buddy that you are supporting isn't there.

Find a primary that you like to play, it's not mandatory that your farmer is Spines, mine is Savage Melee it doesn't matter much which primary you are using as long as it has 1 AoE attack in it, Burn and Ball Lightning take care of the rest.
