Underfyre Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 It's been a while since I've posted. Let me start by criticizing someone trying to be helpful. I have a solid buzz going, so I'm going to be even more abrasive than usual. You'll have to forgive me. Or don't, I'm not your boss. 1) Taking Fire Blast over Flares is just a horrible choice. Did you even read my write-up on Fire in the Guide to Sentinel Sets? 2) I'm not sure why you're pushing so hard for 1.25% S/L/E/N defense that you slotted Durability with a resist set to eek out another 1.98% Toxic resist. I get it, you want to pad for defense debuffs over 45%, but still. Do yourself a favor and just put the Power Transfer unique in there and that's it. Honestly, you'll get more mileage from your recovery by putting End Mods in this power than in Stamina because recovery is a % of total endurance, and this power increases the total amount of endurance you have. 3) Feel free to keep Afterburner if you want to be lazy about maxing out your fly speed. Otherwise, you can get rid of the power and use the P2W jetpacks to max your flyspeed, and move the LotG to Weave. You're already over cap by 5%, so the 1.5% S/L resist is literally being wasted as it is. May as well get the 10% regen for another LotG set. Now you have room to get an Epic pool power. 4) You have a pair of Hami-Os in Aim. You're already pretty set on accuracy with the sets +10% to hit, enhancements in the powers and the 15% set bonus. Just put a recharge IO and Gaussian Build Up in there. Saved you 100 mil influence and increased your damage output. You're welcome. 5) You're wasting your Alpha slot on Agility because of poor defense slotting and poor recharge slotting. If they were bad to begin with, using your Incarnates to fix them doesn't make them not bad, it just means you're not reaching your potential because you had to compensate for them. Which is bad. Fix your problems first, then get your Alpha. Don't look at your Alpha to fix your problems. Honestly, using Ageless Destiny is more than adequate to get the recovery you want and give quite a bit of Recharge (20.83% average) over it's lifetime. If it's defense you were thirsting for, use +5 enhancements and slot better. 6) Invincible has a base of 7% defense. Enhancing a bigger number will give better results that enhancing a smaller number. That's math. Other than Tough Hide, it's also your only other means of gaining defense in set. Pool powers, however, also give a lower number, so if you're going to use slots chasing defense and set bonuses, this is where you do it. 7) I don't like your slotting of Dull Pain because it's the only heal you have, but with Agility it has a passable recharge. But then, you shouldn't be using Agility, should you? 8] Putting the Artillery set in Rain of Fire would give you 3.44% E/N Defense instead of 2.5%, and you can slot Blazing Blast with Sentinel's Ward instead. Now you can take one of those Reactive Armors out and put in another Unbreakable Guard for slightly more S/L Defense than you had before. And more of that hard-to-obtain E/N resist. 9) If you're going throw WIOs and Purples all over the place, you may as well be using +5 enhancements. Don't act like a baller than sell yourself short. I'm gunna go back to enjoying my drinks. Sentinel DPS Spreadsheet Sentinel Builds, fifth post down
Hyperstrike Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 1: Frankly, no. 2: I'm not pushing for 1.25% SLEN. I'm pushing for standard Defense soft-cap on all typed (save Psi) Defense while capping SL Resist and bumping the other types up as much as feasible. And if Defense is much beyond 45%, that's just a side-effect of the slotting. 3: Afterburner is basically an "Oh Shit!" button to help offset swarmed Defense debuffs. 4: Depends on how you come by the Hami-Os. 5: You call it "poor Defense slotting". Show me an alternative that is similarly durable, but with all your supposed "fat" cut out. 6: Yes. But going your way leaves you sub-soft-capped at range from your enemies. The way I've built, you basically walk around soft-capped with zero enemies in range of Invincibility. The way it's slotted gets most of the value from the IOs put in place, avoiding DR altogether. 7: To each his own. As to "shouldn't". This is your opinion. My preference for classes with actual armor sets is to make them as durable as I can. If you like the "wing and a prayer" thing, great for you. 8: Don't have access to the Artillery set as the current version of Mids is violently unstable and mostly prone to outputting corrupted builds. Otherwise I probably would have. 9: I don't normally throw builds out with boosters on. If someone wants to squeeze that little bit more out, that's up to them. As for "acting like a baller". I'm just going to laugh, because that's about the only response this idiotic and pointlessly hostile statement deserves. If you want to be godlike, pick anything. If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!
oldskool Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 (edited) 1 hour ago, Hyperstrike said: The way I've built, you basically walk around soft-capped with zero enemies in range of Invincibility. Maybe this was a typo, but Sentinel Invincible doesn't scale per enemy. Its a flat rate. Fire is one of the few sets that has fairly low slotting potential for additional damage. So using the sets as they are to push really high defenses is a fine method. The build as it is doesn't really concern itself with doing the best damage it could, but it should be OK. The powers and enhancements could be tweaked a bit to balance out the damage vs defense ratios. Using any of the damage enhancement Alphas only matters if one cares about pushing damage higher. Agility, Cardiac, or Spiritual can be fine choices all on their own merits depending on what a goal is. "Good build" is a loaded phrase. It means something different to everyone. Hyperstrike Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 3 hours ago, oldskool said: Maybe this was a typo, but Sentinel Invincible doesn't scale per enemy. Its a flat rate. Yeah it was. It's what I get for posting half-awake. What I say in correction is: With Invincible, with regards to DR, I've already extracted optimal enhancement for the slot allotment. Adding more slots wouldn't improve it more than adding CJ, Maneuvers, etc. And single-slotting them to squeeze every last erg out of Invincible would deprive the build of set bonuses. Just testing, slotting as he suggested results in a 0.2% S/L Defense gain, a 0.1% E/N Defense gain and a 0.0% Defense gain. C'est la vie. 3 hours ago, oldskool said: "Good build" is a loaded phrase. No biggie. The game's been going for 16 years. And it's changed a metric buttload since Issue 1. Small, virtually meaningless brain-farts like this are bound to happen. Torn between invul and regen as my secondary. Have you made any tweaks to it since previously posting it? It's a powerset combo that looks pretty fun. Out of curiosity, was there any reason you didn't want to take unstoppable or go with an epic power pool (I just like to know the 'why' of builds rather than just copying wholesale without having proper understanding). Basically, once it got it's Level 50 kit out, I haven't touched the build. It's absolutely solid. And I don't take Unstoppable because if you're built right, Unstoppable is just a delayed suicide button. 1 If you want to be godlike, pick anything. If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!

I created the character (making the bio now), and so far in the first couple levels it's proven pretty fun already. Actually didn't realize the nature of the crash you experience with unstoppable; after your post I looked it up and realized I think I'd rather skip it. Liberty and Virtue server refugee. Considering all the ways to bypass the need for Unstop, there's no real need for the power anymore. If you want to be godlike, pick anything. If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!

|-------------------------------------------------------------------| Both of these builds look pretty neat. And you don't catch yourself ever missing the epic power pools? From what I've read psionic tends to be a go-to ancillary pool (if people pick up an epic to begin with), if only for link minds. The fire/invuln route seems like a good choice for the character concept I have in mind 🙂 Liberty and Virtue server refugee. Everlasting resident.
