Toxic Crab - Comments and Help welcome

So I had a theme idea the other day and came up with a potentially unusual build. It combines procs and seeks toxic sources for stacking with venom grenades.

The trade offs are obvious in the build, petless, less defences than can be achieved.

I have also picked up the crab backpack attacks - it's thematic for me, even though I know the rifle typically does better DPA.

 

Thoughts/Comments/Suggestions/Questions/Math welcome.

First: WAY too many procs, not nearly enough damage and accuracy slotting in so many of your attacks.  Crabs have a 1.0 damage scalar so enhancing damage is going to give you a better bang for your buck on average than loading up on procs will.  Also, you're going to struggle to hit anything with VG, Frag, etc. with no accuracy slotted.  TTL is not a replacement for accuracy slotting, it's a supplement.  

 

Second: You have too many attacks overall.  There's no way you need all of those attacks.

 

Third: For a build focusing on Toxic damage, you have totally neglected you big Toxic attack in Bile Spray.  Why is it only 3 slotted?  And again, why no accuracy?  

 

Fourth: If you're going to go with procs, and your build is Toxic damage focused, why no Gladiator's Javelin in your ranged attacks?  It's the only Toxic damage proc out there.  

 

Generally, I don't think your proposed build would be playable.  The lack of accuracy slotting will have you whiffing way too often, even against +0s, let alone +1-2.

1) I'm struggling to understand this. I could use some help with the math. As a test, running mids I put 3x 50 Acc IOs in Single Shot. That shows 154.1% accuracy on the attack. On my crab build, Suppression with no acc enhancements shows 150.7% accuracy on the attack, mainly from things like TTL and set bonuses. How much accuracy do I need to hit a +0 then?

 

2) Probably. Possibly. But some are situational. Vs a hard target I tend to chain ST attacks, vs a group I cycle AoEs.

 

3) I could probably stand to throw some damage in there. I'm trying a toxic/proc based build, slots are tight and with set bonuses I'm not too unhappy at where it sits.

 

4) The powers that take the toxic proc are being used for my AT sets.

 

You've given me something to think about however, I might try making it on the test server and seeing if I can't get a feel for it before I finish leveling and buying IOs, thank you.

As an update, I took this build to the test server, I can hit folks on the ITF set to +4/x8 fine. Survival isn't perfect but I could probably solo +2/x8.

 

That said, I'm not too sure how happy I am with experimentation. I might have to give it a whirl more. I am really impressed by all the bonus range from the bombardment set - I can hit with things from what feels like miles away.

I can see this being the type of build that could work really well on a themed team of SoA, where everyone has taken the leadership powers, so you are all way over the softcap for defence, have a load of damage from (up to) 16 assaults running, and so much +tohit it's laughable. Not so sure I would want to play it solo.

 

It's an interesting idea though. I was actually considering a fully procced out spider for the themed team I play with, we've only had one run out so far and are around level 24, so I haven't actually planned it out yet, it's being played by ear other than getting the leadership powers as early as possible. But running through (and obliterating) the low level content redside was a blast.

I already have a maxed Arbiter I play with a huntsman build, and I'm working on inf for a second mace build. I created this character to have a dedicated crab - I love VEATs and I love playing VEAT only teams.

Just when I think I am getting good at making builds, Kiramon makes one. 🙂

 

Her version is much better than the one I was trying on beta. Both have issues with single target damage and are end hogs even with all the accolades.

 

My hover version is unkillable at least.

Single target, I can't help. End... well, we can get it to a better spot with the recovery, but the cones are so expensive. I'd imagine though if you spend more time on Shark cones it wouldn't be as recognizable a problem (because well 2s+ each use lol). I know when testing them out on one of my builds it was the least expensive of the EPPPs,  since so much got recovered during the animation times.
