I must be the worst at searching through these forum threads or is it just that there is something wrong with SD/axe for a tank. 

When I build a character I have an idea followed with a costume. Then it's picking powersets. That's where I ground to a halt. I think it's that I see some value in all power choises and can't figure out what to cut, be it for optimal slotting or to patch build holes with pool powers.

 

Do you have a build idea for a scrappy SD/axe tank with good survivability and a slotting that won't break the bank?

For a quick and easy/cheap start, begin here just replacing the dark melee with Axe attacks. It'll be a super cheap soft-cap build then you have the flexibility of adding Luck of the Gamblers +Rech and 5-slotted Red Fortunes in your Def powers to get more recharge. And then after level 50 putting in purples and stuff.

I put this together. No Purples of any kind. It has maxed defenses for Ranged and Melee, nearly maxed AOE. Resistances are lower than you can get with purples, but it should be generally survivable especially if you have any kind of resist buffs.

I haven't examined the full build, but I would drop the Scirocco proc I think.  You'd have to ask one of the proc experts if that would increase or decrease your DPS, but I've found that the +rech triggers like mad.  Happy hunting!

You don't need hasten. The great thing about Axe is that you can throw in a FF +recharge proc in every attack. The higher AT modifier means you can really go proc heavy for higher budget builds.

 

You can get pretty good stats across the board even with a budget build. The hardest stat to raise without dipping into winter IO sets is -recharge resist and you can get up to 70% without which is not bad.

 

Here is a budget build with no purples, no winter IO sets, no PVP IOs, You have sturdy numbers across the board, Endurance management can be an issue with all the obliterations so I took body mastery. Energy torrent is a great opener and it's more knockdown to complement all your other knockdowns. If you can't afford LOTGs you can easily swap them out with other defense IOs or even SOs and it won't impact your numbers too much except for recharge, but that's where the FF procs come in.

Thanks for the builds. Metauphoria has slightly lower DEF but higher RES. And Nemu has slightly higher DEF but lower RES. Guess Nemus build wins out on higher HP, regen, END Rec and probably recharge.
